OK Flyers Fans Hear me out
This isn't a terrible idea but it has a few flaws. Mainly:
-We need way more help on RD than LD, and this is a huge commitment on the left side with Sanheim being young and cost controlled, and Zamula/York on the way
Actually, yeah that's the only thing but it's a big one. I think the value and basic premise is there, it's just as simple as us not being able to afford paying a LHD like that

Toronto tampa and Philly deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HarterCart79</b></div><div>Don't know much about Sikura, if he's not at least a B level prospect I'd say no deal. Laughton may not be the team's best player, he might not even be a Top-6 fwd, but he's a very valuable depth piece that plays PK and works his butt off for a pretty fair contract, it would be hard for me to trade a guy like that if I'm Chuck Fletcher</div></div>
Sikura is a 25 year old forward that has yet to crack the NHL with any consistency. The trade is Laughton for a 2nd and a warm body in the AHL, so it doesn't make much sense given what we are trying to achieve next season.

Abs fans what do you think
Jost a 21 year old top ten pick for Raffl and a fourth. Sure seems fair. MTL will send you a fourth along with Nick Cousins for Nolan Patrick.

Montreal Weber Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HarterCart79</b></div><div>I agree he doesn't play that contract out, but MTL would never retain salary for the next 7 years, why would they especially when you're handing them Voracek's contract. I don't necessarily hate this idea, but I wouldn't want to take that risk that Weber is still playing at 40 or 41 like a Chara, but not as good. Chara still brings something to the table with his absolute size, and Weber could with his shot, that's not going to go away, but still not enough for me to want to keep him at that age if he refuses to retire. Also don't really want Shaw for 3 years because he's going to be blocking a Farabee, Ratcliffe, Frost if Hayes signs because Frost will be a wing in the NHL then or they'd never have a spot for him.
I'd much rather work a trade with this same package to Nashville for Subban and say Craig Smith. Serviceable RW, 1 year left on his deal, then let the kids come up and take over for good.</div></div>
Weber's contract really isn't that bad at all, even in the later parts of it. He has one of the grandfathered contracts that are now illegal for teams to give out (he signed a 14 year $110mil deal, remember.). If ever Weber declines to a stage where he isn't worth his $7mil cap hit, his actual salary for the last 3 or 4 seasons are just $1mil. Teams seeking to reach to cap floor will take him.

Escaping cap hell with 1 trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HarterCart79</b></div><div>That's a trade that probably works for both teams, is fair, and if I were the Flyers I'd have a hard time passing up, but as a fan I'd have a hard time swallowing. We've already got enough idiots on Flyers twitter crying about Brayden Schenn today. I can't wait until the day Ratcliffe scores 40 goals and is an absolute monster on the ice and the "should've kept" takes start coming. But it's a smart trade, an actually fair hockey trade. Vegas has NO prospect pool, are tight to the cap, and Smith and Miller help the Flyers. Ideally we'd solve our center issue, but if Hayes signs, this would pretty much wrap up the offseason in 1 move for fletcher outside of signing RFAs.</div></div>
I wouldn’t be thrilled trading Ratcliffe but i would in the right deal. Frost and Farabee are my 2 keepers.

Ghost value seems lower than I expect
"Ghost value seems lower than I expect".
Based on what? Other Habs fans AGM's? :rolleyes
I should rephrase: Philly fans think Shaw and Byron are way worse than they actually are. Some Habs fans have them way higher than they should be however.
I don't know how you went from what people are speculating Byron+Shaw+ for Ghost. But Shaw Kulak and a 3rd is worse IMO. Shaw and Byron + a pick is way better value.

Philly Rumour
Andrew Shaw is not intriguing to me as a Flyers fan. He scored 20 goals once - 5 years ago, and has *never* played 82 games in a season. While he had a career-high 47 points this season, I would rather not buy-high on him in the same deal that we are selling-low on ghost.

Hayes It Is
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cmaenza28</b></div><div>I don't not like the acquisition. I think he is a good fit and they needed 2C. I just wonder if we go Vet heavy this offseason acquiring or signing guys with 4,5 or 6 year terms, what is the point of having great prospects waiting in line? Morgan Frost and Farabee and Ratcliffe can't all play in the AHL for the next 6 years, and they're not playing 4th line minutes in the NHL. So I just think the more bodies come in long term from outside, the more the writing is on the wall for dealing somebody like Konecny, Voracek, JVR, who knows. They've gotta make room for these guys at some point</div></div>
There's no such thing as having to many good players though. Right now the Flyers don't have the quality to compete hard. Presuming we actually sign Hayes it really strengthens a lot down the middle. Giroux can play wrong permanently and that's a big win. If Frost, Farabee, and Ratcliffe show they are good enough they'll get time. Injuries happen. It's not too hard to move out a good player later on. Maybe in a year or two the Flyers move out JVR or even Lindblom. Perhaps Voracek with some retained salary for one of the ELC contract guys.
Having to move out good players to accommodate good younger players is better than not signing good players because your prospects might want that slot in a year or two.

While I love the kids we have (especially the three you mentioned) it's dangerous to hope that they all pan out. Fletcher had an opportunity to make his team better today and he took it. I'd rather him do that then to hope these kids work out. Like someone else mentioned, injuries happen and who knows what happens in 2,3,4,5 or 6 years. Players could play their way out of the lineup or could have career ending injuries. Who knows. All I can say is I am happy to see Chuck is willing to do what it takes to be better today

Flyers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cmaenza28</b></div><div>I'm just saying why would we want to retain Eakin and Reaves for millions against the cap past this season when we have better players on ELCs who need roles in the NHL? You'd rather extend Cody Eakin than see Morgan Frost?</div></div>
First, I'm not sure they're better players. It's part of what is nice about a deal like this. Get players with no term and see what your prospects do for another year at a higher level. I don't care if Frost or Farabee make the team in camp but I'd like to see them push onto the team by the end of the year.
As for re-signing them, Reaves is a 4th line wing. He's not taking a prospect's job since the prospect isn't in competition for 4th line work. For the right cost, he's a great fit for the Flyers. His currently salary is an overpay.
Eakin is a player I'd like to see play here and see how well he fits in before signing him. I like that he is a center and can move to wing. Frost might be a wing in the NHL. He was a wing for Canada at the WJC's so that might be an indicator of where he'll play at the highest level. Eakin would likely be re-signed right around where he's at so for what he brings and how he can fit anywhere in the lineup it's not a bad deal. I don't see how he blocks anyone either. I also like that Eakin would be a tradeable asset if the team needed to move him.
