<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawkisles</b></div><div>Aatu is the cornerstone of an already weak Islanders prospect pool. Only way I see him getting moved is for someone younger/with term. If that means the Isles don’t get Kaner, it means the Isles don’t get Kaner.
I will agree that Kane to NYR makes zero sense, they need defensive depth and grit more than they need another fast moving scorer. The Isles are a much better fit in terms of what each team needs, but I doubt it happens because the Hawks are going to want a king’s ransom. I’m not sure the Isles can or should overpay for a guy on an expiring deal given how few future assets they have.
But for the heck of it, this would be my counteroffer:
NYI gets: Patrick Kane, who signs a three year deal immediately after the trade
CHI gets: 2023 1st, 2023 2nd, Ruslan Iskhakov, Anthony Beauvillier
If that‘s not enough, the Hawks can find another partner.</div></div>
As a Hawks fan, totally agree w/ your take on Raty. No way he's part of a Kane trade. The package you proposed is a very fair, very solid offer. Hawks would be foolish not to accept that if offered.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>You guys realize how much of a troll you are right?! Anderson has 5 goals in 15 games, that would put him 5th on the Devils, tie him for 4th on the Isles, tie him for 2nd on the Hawks, put him 4th on the Leafs, in fact he would be top 5 in goals on just about every team in the NHL. Please find below a list of qualities and stats that prove how much of a troll you are.
Anderson has five goals in 15 games played (suspended two games), a pace for 27 goals this season. His five goals are tied for third on the team with Mike Hoffman.
He tops all Canadiens’ forwards with 31 hits. Second, on the team is Juraj Slafkovsky with 13, then Dach with 10.
He has only three giveaways all season, placing him first on the Habs amongst regulars in the line-up.
He’s eighth amongst forwards in ice time (14:17) and ninth for power play ice time (1:17).
The guy stands at 6-foot 3-inches, 218 lbs, and skates like the wind.
While he will never be nominated for the Selke Trophy, he is not a liability defensively.
He is aggressive, cuts hard to the net, wins puck battles in the corners, and generates turnovers in the offensive zone.
When he’s on the ice, opponents must be aware and keep their heads up.
He has a very good shot.
Since joining the Canadiens, he averages under 25 goals per 82 games.
He will drop the gloves if or when needed.
He has displayed excellent leadership qualities since joining the Habs.
He wants to be in Montreal!
Montreal is not trading him and <strong>every team</strong> in the NHL would want him if he was put on the block.</div></div>
almost every team doesn't want him because he is a liability defensively and his contract is an albatross

Iskhakov callup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawkisles</b></div><div>LET’S GO!!!
As for what line he should be on, I’d have it something like this:
Parise-Barzal-Wahlstrom
Lee-Nelson-Beauvillier
Iskhakov-Pageau-Palmieri
Martin/Ross-Cizikas-Clutterbuck
Iskhakov is a hybrid between a 2 way player and a playmaker. This whole line can defend well and Iskhakov could dish the puck to Palmieri for offensive production. And Ruslan would bring something that line lacks: Speed. I think giving him some sheltered minutes at first would put him in a position where he’s not expected to put up crazy offensive numbers, but he has the opportunity to score.
I don’t really see him on the 2nd line. It always seems to me like that line’s strategy is to get the puck to the net and jam the puck in. And it’s been working. Iskhakov doesn’t have the body to play that kind of game.
Longer term, Iskhakov has both the speed and IQ to keep up with Barzal. There’s a chance he’s that coveted LW1 we’ve been so desperate for. And if this call up goes well enough, I think it’d be worth it to see what Iskhakov-Barzal-Wahlstrom would look like for a game or two much later in the season. But I think 3rd line is the right place for now.</div></div>
Those are the same lines I would do.

But Soshnikov on the first line is just inexcusably bad. I’m just glad he abandoned it after two periods of zero production.
Continuing on about Iskhakov, I can understand why we couldn’t bring him up on such short notice. But I’ll admit, I was really hoping to see him called up today or tomorrow, if we’re really still looking for a guy to play wing for Barzal, why not try the AHL’s top rookie?</div></div>
I wouldn’t put Iskhakov at the expense of Wahlstrom , but I’m all for calling him up.

I did think Palmieri needed to get himself in better shot opportunities but as for forechecking, puck battles and just defensively as a whole I thought he was very solid. As for Parise I think he got himself in nice shooting spots very high quality shot attempts that he took and was just overall great.

New York Islanders signed Mathew Barzal (8 Years / $9,150,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>budgeteam</b></div><div>Overpaid by 1M or so. Take away his name value and reputation, and he's an 8M player.
Tkachuk is the closest comparable at 9.5M this off season, and he blows Barzal away. You can say Barzal is a C, Tkachuk is a winger, but Tkachuk is also a power forward, which makes him coveted. Fiala is another one that is pretty close in age and term, he signed for 7.875M and is the better player, he's just not a center.
Because the cap is going to go up to 100M within the next 4-5 years, I cannot see this contract ever being that bad. It still isn't a good value signing. If the situation was they had to overpay to keep the player, they probably made the right move. If that wasn't the situation, they got out negotiated.</div></div>
Fiala is not a better player than Barzal.
I'm not a huge Barzal fan; but he is a much more complete player than Fiala who is a 100-ft player and notoriously bad at defense; shows inconsistent effort, etc. (in short all the reasons he was traded from Nashville and why Minnesota didn't try too hard to keep him). Not even a comparison in any way shape or form.

New York Islanders signed Mathew Barzal (8 Years / $9,150,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Luguber</b></div><div>Seems like a perfectly reasonable deal to me.
I believe that people who have actually watched Islanders games since Barzal came in to the league tend to vote yes, to a greater extent than people who haven't watched him much, on this beeing a good contract.</div></div>
In the landscape of the NHL, the deal is too high, but people need to understand that level of importance to the team factors into deals. It's why Brady Tkachuk got what he did, and why Horvat is asking for quite a bit from the Canucks.
Ultimately, Barzal has lead the Islanders in scoring every full season of his career. Even if he has not reached the ceiling set in his rookie year, he has been their best offensive player. He is their biggest star. If he is on a team with a different makeup, where he is the 3rd or 4th star, he gets 8M not 9M. That is where level of importance factors in. Because he is the Islanders best and most important offensive star, he is in a position to get a premium.
I don't think it's a good contract, but letting Barzal walk would be much worse than overpaying by 1M per season to keep him. It's unlikely the contract will ever be that bad, especially with the cap going up. Unless people have some reason to project a major decline in Barzal's play, I wouldn't be too concerned.
People are over dramatic about contracts. Most contracts end up falling in the same ballpark, and just like there aren't that many steals, there aren't that many truly bad contracts. Usually, it's the player who was signed for 3.5M to be a veteran third liner who regresses to an AHL player that hurts teams more than the 70 point forward who maybe should have been paid 500k-1M less, but still brings a 1st liner performance.
There is a pretty clear understanding between the star players and the teams that the cap is going to shoot up over the next 3-4 seasons. We've seen the result, where roughly 8 million seems to be the new floor for stars. No star is signing long term for less, because they know the cap is going to go up big time, so there is more incentive than ever to take a shorter term deal. Teams aren't getting many discounts on stars right now because of that.

The problem with most bridge deals is that when they expire, the player can go to arbitration and force the team into a short-term contract that takes him to unrestricted free agency in the minimum number of years. However, according to Cap Friendly, Dobson still won’t have arbitration rights when he comes out of this contract, so the team will have a fair amount of leverage on the next negotiation. In my opinion, that’s the way bridge deals should work. With arbitration eligibility the player has too much leverage, which is why I think we’re seeing more teams sign young players long term. They want to avoid that arbitration stage and get the player committed for a few years beyond the UFA minimum. There’ll still be a chance to do that with Dobson on his next contract, so this is the ideal bridge deal.

I’m confident that Lou will be able to sign Dobson to a long-term deal worth less than that. Everyone was expecting a lot more for Pelech and Pulock, and look what they got. Despite his many flaws, the one thing he has been great at is locking up core guys to good contracts (not looking at you Anders Lee)
