<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GhostGM92</b></div><div>Raymond was held up by Larkin and he was still -17 last season. He's extremely bad defensively is one of the softest players in the league. He's bad with Dylan Larkin and he's really bad if he's not with him. Right now he's not even on the first power play unit. And his shot isn't that good, most of his goals are from five feet in front of the net. He's not a good winger fundamentally. He's not good in his own end and he's soft on the boards, he doesn't forecheck. Patrick Kane isn't great defensively either and is the same kind of player as Raymond but way better if healthy. Lucas Raymond honestly stinks, Patrick Kane has a great shot and has elite hands and creativity.</div></div>

https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/players/lucas-raymond
Plus/Minus in a vacuum is borderline useless, and Raymond spent 47.3% of his time on a line with Dylan Larkin. That's less than half, in case you were wondering. He has more takeaways than giveaways, a positive penalty differential, positive Corsi/Fenwick, 55.1% on-ice xGoals, (higher than the off-ice xGoals). Literally nothing you're claiming is supported by actual evidence, and if you actually WATCHED a game, you'd see that Raymond is one of, if not the most talented forward on the Wings. Get over yourself, you are factually and figuratively wrong.
https://moneypuck.com/player.htm?p=8478508 Stats on your beloved Yakov Trenin, by the way. Not great in comparison.

Also, we already have at least two prospects that fit the exact same archetype, that should be comparable or better than Raymond, in Nazar and Moore.</div></div>
Raymond is both younger than, and outscored all three of those players, and unless you're expecting 58 points out of Nazar this season and Moore next season, they're already behind. Come on dude, the only player in Chicago's system that's better than Raymond is Bedard.

I know that Leafs fans think Nylander is the 3rd best player in the world after Matthews and Marner because the hockey universe only revolves around Toronto, but if Yzerman really wants to sign "Willy Nilly" Nylander, he'll make a bid in free agency.

The more I look at it, the more I don't mind it. Only way it could be bad is if Edvinsson outplays several guys and still winds up in GR. If he can't outplay Chiarot/Holl/Petry/Maatta/Ghost consistently, it's best he develops in the AHL.
Besides, if he's up in the NHL and two of the depth guys are sitting every night, that's a plus. Can never have too much serviceable depth.

So, Detroit doesn't have a roster spot for a 20 year old blue chip D, so they're going to package him with another young roster player for a 27 year old pending UFA that may have priced himself out of Toronto? That only makes sense for the Leafs.

That pick is conditional. Wings have the choice of sending their own or Boston's 1st, dude.

I'm not saying he's worth a 2nd, but he's not worth a top-15 prospect. I wouldn't even say he's worth a top-30 guy, either.</div></div>
Player A: UFA at season's end (at the time), due a raise. Scored 8 less points than Nylander that season on a bad team (played over half the season with known 3rd liners). 110% work ethic all the time, refined defensive game, offensive play driver, team leader. According to Leafs fans, worth a late 1st and a B prospect.
Player B: UFA at season's end, due a raise, wants a fortune. Scored 40 goals once. Scored over a point per game once. Work ethic suspect. Defensively talented, but only puts forth effort on occasion. According to Leafs fans, worth at least 2 of: 1st round picks, blue chip prospects, good young roster players with team control.
Guesses as to who the players are?

How would you make this trade more fair
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Don't know what you are trolling about but a 2nd (former 38th OVA pick) and 4th is equal to a late 1st or 2 mid 2nds which is about where I said Cossa and the 2nd was valued. Sure you got to keep Cossa and we only got a 4th but on draft day an early 2nd + 4rh gets you into the 1st round. Therefore the Wings basically gave up a late 1st for Petry.</div></div>
It's ok to admit when you're wrong. This is some extreme mental gymnastics and copium, dude. Lindstrom couldn't stick on Detroit's awful 3rd pairing last season. He does not have much value, if any.

Underrated and overrated players
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BCAPP</b></div><div>You are not. It was treating him like he was untouchable. I believe it was 1 for 1 for a high end player. Can't recall who. He's a great young piece but it reminds me of when Montreal fans were talking about kotkaniemi as this untouchable piece. He's really good. But I just feels he's being treated like he's a tier beyond that.
Put another way I feel he is being treated like he's another seider. Seider is a level above in value.</div></div>
Was said high end player in his late 20s, soon to be an UFA wanting a massive raise, or a suspected locker room cancer? Some combination of the three? Does anybody really need to go into why a rebuilding team would rather keep Raymond than anyone fitting the criteria above? Raymond is a very good young player, cost controlled for several years, and plays on a team that needs offensive talent. Why wouldn't he be extremely highly regarded?

Which is all well and good, and if Detroit actually needed the cap space, then I'd be all for it. But they don't, so I'd rather take a chance on getting another Wallinder/Buchelnikov type prospect instead of a roster spot that won't be filled by a prospect, and cap space they don't need.

Chiarot's worse than Brodie and has term... He's the dump, it's going to cost a 2nd to dump him and prob a 2nd/3rd to acquire Brodie based on how he plays and the value he could bring to a team like EDM</div></div>
Chiarot has negative value, but Detroit doesn't need to dump his contract, so they won't pay to do so. Simple as that.
Toronto *NEEDS* to do something, so any trade they make will likely wind up below market value for them. How is this a hard concept to grasp?

Is Chiarot good? No. Does Detroit need to get rid of him? Also no.
Trading Chiarot for Brodie doesn't change the fact that they will probably still be the 7th best team in the Atlantic, so why waste the draft capital?

The argument that Detroit will just get DeBrincat for free is looking very shaky
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>1. I never said Yzerman would.
2. There are some folks who think Ottawa will just give 9 million to DeBrincat and then Detroit freely signs him as a UFA 1 year later.
The title doesn't need to be changed.</div></div>
1. Yet you're here making this trade with the usual Ottawa template of 1st + Berggren.
2. To be fair, there are idiots that think idiotic things everywhere. They're probably not worth giving time to. Ottawa doesn't have 9 mil in cap space, and still has a couple roster spots to fill. Dorion literally can't sign DeBrincat for 1 year, so that notion, wherever it's coming from, is moot.
3. Indeed, the title doesn't <strong>NEED</strong> to be changed. But I still think it's more appropriate either way.
