Taylor Hall to ANA
Why with our wealth of young forwards would we want Taylor Hall when for three of those five elements, we could get the player we really need right now -- Brett Pesce?

I know you didn't. The package presented is way too much, especially since it doesn't include at least a partial solution for Anaheim's RD weakness, and substituting one of Steel/Terry for Sprong or Sherwood just makes it worse. Taylor Hall is a luxury. Brett Pesce (not that Carolina is even considering trading him) or an equivalently high-rated top-4 RD is a necessity.

Todays Lines Per Elliot Teaford
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Icarus</b></div><div>I feel like it's been hard for me at asses fully since Larsson and MDZ have been utilized less overall. Larsson is getting the fewest minutes and not much special teams time, which Guhle really isn't either. Other than a couple mistakes, Larsson has looked good overall. But he definitely needs more confidence and poise.
I think Jones just needs to score and he'll really get rolling. But I dont think sitting out a game would hurt him if it means Comtois gets some time. Jones is likely staying up all year so a few games sat out wont be bad for him.</div></div>
I agree benching Jones for a game or so to give Comtois a look shouldn't be that big of a deal for his development, but I'd much rather scratch Ritchie. The pucks will start going in for Jones if he keeps working as hard as he does. I'd just really hate to sacrifice the speed and effort he brings to the lineup.

IMO, MDZ has been way better than Holzer and the Larsson - MDZ pairing has been solid. Not flashy, but just not a noticeable liability. I think that pairing should stick. Larsson needs more experience at this level and doesn't need to be hampered by a bad partner. Overall, I have been very impressed with Larsson. He gets flustered when put under pressure, but that's normal for kids not used to the speed of the NHL. Hopefully, by sticking at this level, he'll learn to deal with those situations. Once/if we can improve, he's going to be a very good D-first top 4D.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Icarus</b></div><div>I’m hoping to see Comtois as well. I know part of the call up was because the Gulls don’t play again till Friday. But one game would be nice since it’s been almost a year since we’ve seen him in action.
I think Holzer really left a bad taste in Eakins mouth. MDZ may have to really bomb to get replaced. Though I also think it’s entirely possible Holzer gets slotted without skating with Larsson today.</div></div>
Getting a look at Comtois would be great. Jones has been pure energy, but I could see him being benched for Comtois.

Think you may have to call Buffalo about their massive stock of RHD. There's a guy named Brandon Montour you might like ;). I think Risto would do well on Anaheim. Could get Brodie to play RHD but I think he hates Anaheim because of how much they got under his skin in that playoff round where ANA swept the Flames a few years back. Could sign Ceci in the offseason?

Nobody is trading for any of those guys. Subban coulda been had for relatively cheap as we saw him go for 2 seconds and a couple other minor pieces. No one wanted that cap hit. Similar for Weber, his contract means he’s stuck in MTL. 7 years is way too long. Pietrangelo is the only one with a slim chance at moving but I doubt STL moves him as they wanna keep him around and they’re all in this season.

There's nothing wrong with this team that Cale Makar or Charlie McAvoy wouldn't cure. Unfortunately . . .
Seriously, this team is only one first-class RD away from being a legitimate contender. (And he doesn't have to be as good as those guys.) I know, I know, team diehards keep repeating that putting Cam Fowler on the right is the answer, but I'm not convinced. But realistically, there's no chance we can land the guy we need this year unless Waddell goes crazy and thinks he has enough depth to give us Brett Pesce for draft picks.
I'm still rootin', though.

This has been one of the weirdest starts to a season that I can remember... Ducks go from a bottom feeder to 3-0 (honestly they have too talented of a roster to be a bottom feeder again), Lightning have been struggling after a historic season and very minimal changes to their roster, James freaking Neal just scored 4 goals tonight after scoring 7 in 63 games last year, the Jets just iced a defense with none of the players that were on the team last year (and this whole Byfuglien thing in general is weird), and the Sharks have been struggling despite minimal changes to their roster (much like the Bolts). There's probably more that I'm not thinking of, but this has been a very weird year so far

Really like yours guys d-core and Gibson is arguably the best in the game. That right there gives you a real nice shot this season and breakouts from players like Kase and a bounce back from Rakell and you guys will be in great shape!

Contenders Next Year After One Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Icarus</b></div><div>Explain yourself sir</div></div>
Anaheim desperately needs a solid second pair on defense. This one comes already packaged. After a year's experience this season, this defense and this forward group is ready to contend for the Cup.
Is it such wishful thinking? I think the trade value is reasonably fair, particularly with Lindholm's contract, and Pelech-Pulock is a big improvement over Fowler-stooge or Fowler-some young guy playing his off side.
Or are you asking about the weather report? I'm just trying to make the northerners jealous.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Icarus</b></div><div>I feel you on this a LOT. I'm torn I think. I like Fowler and Guhle together so far, its not a bad tandem. But this is not the first time Fowler has been put on the right side. It didnt work then either.</div></div>
Sometimes making a sacrifice "for the good of the team" isn't all it's cracked up to be. If Fowler scores 8 goals from the right instead of 12 goals from the left, does the additional defense make up for that?
Anaheim has to figure out a way to fill the pipeline at RD. I didn't understand Jackson Lacombe over Kaedan Korczak in June. I'm already starting to keep an eye on Braeden Schneider and Daemon Hunt for next year. I wish we could get anyone ranging from Dylan Demelo through Scott Mayfield to Savard in Columbus, but we have no magic wand to wave because we can't afford a Hall-for-Larsson trade with Rickard Rakell.

Figure it out - With Trade
My one different takeaway about last night is the condition of the ice. It was 85 degrees here yesterday and the way our most experienced puck handlers -- Getzlaf, Lindholm, even Fowler at one point -- skated past pucks they already had on their sticks suggests to me that the ice was sluggish. Anybody else have an opinion on that?
I was glad to see both Steel and Kase on the ice for game one considering their questionable health status at the end of camp. Given that, I understand their rustiness.
I love Fowler, but if he's on the right side, he doesn't score the game winner last night. That goal is impossible for a lefty to make from the right circle. Putting him on his off side is like asking Mike Trout to catch -- he can do it, but eventually it's going to affect his performance negatively. For a defenseman, playing on his off side affects offensive output more than defensive strength, and we can't afford to lose even a smidgeon of Cam's scoring ability.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mytduxfan</b></div><div>Thanks for posting your thoughts on the game. In terms of the suggested changes, my view is that it is just 1 game and we should give it at least 10 games before we start making any rash decisions. Everyone looked a little sloppy and some guys are coming off injuries (Kase/Steel). Even Getzlaf didn't look all that great.
With that said, if we are making changes, I wouldn't mind seeing Lundestrom come up. Maybe we try moving Henrique to the wing, where he is supposed to be better. I just thought the Swede line was pretty good during preseason. Just a thought:
Comtois - Getzlaf - Kase
Rakell - Lundestrom - Silfverberg
Henrique - Steel - Terry
Shore - Grant - Rowney</div></div>
I really like this idea. My only thought is that if you switch Terry and Kase, you would (theoretically) have two guys on each line who are experienced at taking draws. But maybe that's over-rated.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Icarus</b></div><div>I like Comtois and Jones for different reasons. But in general I like watching Jones style of play. He's creative, scrappy, and has some hands. Comtois is really poised and has a solid shot. I think in this case, Getz seems to like play with Comtois a lot. I personally would replace Ritchie with Jones.</div></div>
I agree. If Jones can find more of a scoring touch (enough for 10-15 goals per year), he'll be perfect top 9 forward. I love the pressure he puts on the opposition and his work rate. We need more players like him.
Comtois hasn't been as impressive this off-season, but I still feel he's got the tools and the IQ to be a legit 1st line W. I'd like a longer look at him, but, ultimately, I think he needs to be in the AHL for this season. We shouldn't rush him. He's going to be good one, eventually.
I would like to see how Ritchie performs this season. He progressed significantly last summer and I am hoping for more of the same this year. We'll see. If he doesn't show any signs of progression I think we should look to offload him. We have better, harder working wingers coming through. If Ritchie can't keep up, he needs to be moved.
