Anaheim
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Two utterly horrible trades for Anaheim. Even if you buy into the uninformed idiocy that Gibson is a bad goaltender, four years of a starter is worth more than that. And if he's so terrible, how stupid is it to want him for four entire seasons at $6.4 million each?
Replacing four years of Gibson, who has played in fewer than 50 games only once in the last 7 seasons (and that due to the pandemic) with one season of the brittle 34-year-old Auntie Raanta, who hasn't played in as many as 34 games in the past five seasons, is just moronic.
Henrique is worth more than that with retention.
Dostal's Qualifying Offer is $874,125 and you aren't close to the cap floor.</div></div>
So comparing GP between Raanta and Gibson isn’t an even comparison bc one is his teams starter and the other is the backup. Not arguing the durability concerns just commenting on the comparison.
You call the criticism of Gibson “uninformed idiocy” my only question is what evidence is there to support that claim? The eye test, traditional stats and advanced analytics all say that Gibson hasn’t been a good goalie in 4 years.

Buyout Hell Year 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lafavs</b></div><div>The buyouts were mostly about cost certainty, based on everything I've read. Trading them without retaining salary was going to be difficult, given their declining performance and high price tags (and NMCs). And if one or both of them opted to retire before their contracts were completed, the Wild faced paying a recapture penalty. The buyouts <em>suck</em>, no doubt, but Guerin seemingly preferred to know exactly how much money he had to work with every year rather than making moves based on an assumption that he'd have more and then having the rug pulled out from under him.</div></div>
I wasn’t talking about any of that. You said there’s a reason Parise is making league minimum, the reason is bc he’s willing to take less to play on LI. He could easily get 3.5 on the open market

Buyout Hell Year 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NickC1988</b></div><div>I've been wondering... How do MIN fans view the buyouts? A lot of people praised Bill G for pulling the trigger and biting the bullet here, but this team hasn't gone anywhere in the playoffs. Sure it opened a couple roster spots up for younger players, but realistically, you move Dumba (Long overdue) and have more cap space available. Parise is making league minimum for a reason, and I get it. He's not effective anymore. Suter is still a top 4 D in DAL playing important minutes. I dunno. Seems like it may have given other players a chance to grow, but the team went nowhere.</div></div>
Parise has been extremely effective with NYI and had 21 goals this year making league minimum. The reason is that he already got paid and just wants to play on LI

Got it so if you think paying a 2nd and Otto to move a 3.5m 28 goal scorer (bc you retained 3.5m) is a good idea you’ve lost your mind. You aren’t replacing Lee’s production with 3.5m and he certainly has positive value retained. You say Lou must go, but if his replacement does this sh*t we’re going to be a hell of a lot worse off.

Changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tm0000</b></div><div>I like your general plan but want no part of Letang. A younger (somewhat) equivalent player would be better, but I'm not sure we have the budget for an all situations D-man. Maybe a lesser package for Barrie (he doesn't seem like a Trotz guy) as a short-term option, or for a longer commitment, sign Gostisbehere as a UFA. Either of them would at least help out the power play and would only be needed for third-pair minutes.</div></div>
The issue with that idea is that we already employ an all offense no defense dman who needs to be somewhat sheltered at 5v5. Our PK would also take a massive hit as a result of swapping Mayfield for Barrie or Gostisbehere. As for a younger player it would make the acquisition cost much higher and out of NYIs price range.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tm0000</b></div><div>Honestly, I think other than dumping Bailey and maybe re-signing Engvall and/or another minor acquisition (something like your Gurianov signing), I don't think we see any major changes at forward. My guess is it's more likely that they look internally for upgrades (healthy Wally, growth from Holmstrom, Dufour, Iskhakov, etc.) than go out and make a big trade for a forward or a big UFA signing (not that there are that many good UFAs available anyway). Finding a powerplay QB/defenseman that can skate the puck through the neutral zone probably gets prioritized.</div></div>
One of the reasons I got Letang here, he can upgrade our PP1 while also being a responsible 2 way dman who can eat minutes

Next year plan - mostly staying the course
I think NYI would rather move a prospect than a pick to ditch Bailey. And as much as this seems to be the going price for a 1x5m cap dump I wonder if NYI might get a better deal with NSH (and Bailey’s good buddy Barry Trotz)

That’s what they said about CAR trading for Burns, how’d that work out? The good thing about the stroke though is even though he’s 36 his body didn’t break down, I would’ve been much more concerned if it was a soft tissue injury or something like that.
Anyway I’m working on another acgm that doesn’t really try to upgrade the defense (even though we do need one)
