I mean would you rather have well known screw ups in the playoffs that won't get any better as long as they're still on their current team or trade them to teams where they could grow a bit more and get trusted toughness and solid D for playoff style hockey in return? with the panthers and lighting bolstering their offence and the Bruins tailing the leafs in the standings adding leafs killer Lindholm to their blue line, Dubas should be kinda desperate for something like this right now, cuz the lineup as is right now is absolutely not getting past this years round one either

if he can put up the numbers he was prior to going to Seattle I don't mind his price, especially if we can get it retained a bunch. Donskoi was a 4thRD pick himself, maybe adding in next years 4th to a retained Engvall and this years 7th (what Engvall was) could go through a bit more realistically

Dubas should be desperate to make that deal for Middleton right now with how the Manson and Chiarot trades went down. I'm sure even off the ice he'll bring some good character to the team

I feel like the Mikheyev Kampf Kase line does great defensively on its own while the 4th plays good possession for when the top 2 lines transition for the offence, Donskoi was AMAZING on both San Jose and Colorado in the years before, putting him on an offence like the Leafs could make him a beast again in my opinion

Dermott can definitely look like a steal by this time next year with that kind of development absolutely, meanwhile with how Middleton has been developed he provides us with more physicality that could hopefully/finally push the Leafs offence to wake up and get past the first round LMAO (I laugh on the outside but I'm in so much pain deep down)

fair point LOL and yea given the opportunity he can do a lot for you guys and flourish, he's young and has a lot to learn still but playing with vets like Burns or Karlsson would make him even better faster

Varlamov and Mayfield Trade to Leafs
this is exactly the kind of counter offer I could see Lou giving Dubas after whatever proposal is initially made for just Chara LOL Kyle's definitely not breaking up the top 4 though. He's definitely still putting his faith in them for at least this years playoffs, if they bust this year too with dumb performances from any of the top 4, I could see any of which who performed poorly all shipped out in the summer for sure

true, I don't know how much retention would actually be possible anyways since not a lot went through on Dermott in the trade simulation here, but I feel like some would be a nice selling point/cherry on top for you guys

2nd round or bust
everything looks possible minus the Arizona deal, I don't see them taking Mrazek unless he's retained, and definitely not for an early pick in this years draft that they'll definitely like no matter how many they have before it LOL. and despite recent rumours, I think Dubas would rather keep Duszak, the 3rd RD is likely to be open for him to take next season with Lyubushkin going into UFA, and Muzzin getting packaged with Holl potentially

its gonna take A LOT more to sign Sandin and Liljegren, and there's no way Dubas trades Willy for a guy like Bertuzzi ever. Nor would he sign Evander Kane ever. Everything else otherwise is actually not a bad prediction.

other than Seider, I've literally never heard of Hronek til I was making these moves and Lindstrom is still developing too. I don't really see how Detroit gets a goalie through UFA unless they overpay, which I don't see being possible with DeKeyser and Fabbri's prices/DeKeyser and Namestnikov among others seeking extensions

And those trades are hilariously bad, two firsts for giordano and a 3rd liner? yikes and then you turn around and trade Holl for two 4ths? terrible</div></div>
Do the original Clifford trade and Nick Foligno ring any bells? LOL, Trevor Moore, a first and a fourth I believe went the other way for both these guys, and look what's happened, Moore is ripping it up in LA, Cliffords useless and Foligno dipped right after the bubble without a second thought. Dubas has set high precedents, any expensive deal you see being made around the league now around the deadline is because of his past moves sacrificing good prospects and picks. I'm not saying he's the worst GM in the world or anything, but we gotta be able to admit, Seattle asking for a first for Giordano at his age and being a rental? who was the last only GM you've seen make that kind of move......

Two third lines
not a bad idea actually, I think Donskoi could benefit being on a winning team again, was really good years prior in both San Jose and Colorado, fresh start here could be great. the only issues are the draft picks, Seattle would want firsts for Giordano alone, and a Leafs first (as of right now) is probably closer to basically being an early second. also the retention. they'll want more picks and a couple other prospects who they could fit into the lineup right away next season, unless Dubas is willing to sacrifice all the Marlies top guys and have them tank their AHL playoff position, I don't see that happening. I wouldn't care and its possible, but I don't see Dubas pulling that trigger

Probably Robertson and several early rounders then, cuz I don't see Dubas moving either of Sandin or Liljegren

well both the Hawks and Rockford would probably need a goalie so that's why both are there, as laughable as it might sound Hutch can maybe provide Rockford with a teeny tiny bit of stability considering they're not even in a playoff spot themselves. and Suomela actually provides depth and would be 4th in team scoring should he be playing for the Icehogs, I think y'all would like him. not to mention theres lots of picks in the deal too, imagine we collapse after this deal, Chicago gets blessed. right now its a win win for both teams really the way I see it

I'm actually not entirely against this, as unlikely as they are to happen LOL. the only one that's a definite no is Seattle, they want a first rounder for MG and if they're retaining anything then they wouldn't want Holl to add to their cap, probably another early pick or a well developed defensive prospect they can slot into the lineup without worry next season

Maybe we get some character
As a Leaf fan myself, I am pleading to any others thinking this way, have some sense and realize already how valuable Nylander is to the lineup and how lucky we are to even have him at the price he's at, to trade away a guy like that would impact the locker room in a very negative way and mess up any chemistry in the top 6, depleting the offence. there's absolutely no way he gets shipped unless its for an equal return. none of Dumba, Greenway, or Hartman can provide what Willy does for us. he already has a lot of character with us. we should also accept the fact Dumba is most likely never gonna be a Leaf either, even after his current contract runs out. Minnesota sees him as a franchise player currently. this was visited once years ago and the ship has sailed far far away, lets let go

asking price for Giordano alone is at least a first rounder so highly unlikely this goes, also extremely unlikely if the Leafs even do somehow get him that he's first pair with Brodie, at best that's the second pair, Rielly will always be the Leafs top guy

based off what I saw when I looked up the Rockford Icehogs, they could definitely use a bit of a boost too LOL I'd even argue the Marlies players in that trade I made could very well slot into the 4th line and 3rd pairing over the current players the Blackhawks have there on top of just Mrazek backing up Lankinen if they don't get another goalie outside of this potential trade
