Spurgeon Out for Season and TDL implications
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>I think the solution is to have Merrill and Goligoski both playing more minutes to help secure that draft pick. Use Spurgeon's LTIR cap hit to pick up an extra pick or two and let Faber continue to make his case for the Calder while he's out.</div></div>
Fair point ha.
I was thinking Barrie just bc he isn't good defensively so it doesn't materially change our fate, but he's at least offensively gifted so you get a few extra cool PP goals to help amuse. And there's of course the possibility to further flip w/retention.

Fleury and Lindholm
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>The Wild acquired Fleury for a 2nd a year after his Vezina season. He's not exactly having a Vezina season so any team acquiring him would want him as a backup and to be a good locker room presence so maybe a 4th if the Wild are lucky? I don't think he waives anyhow, he's had a great career and isn't chasing anything at this point so he's probably content just playing out the year in Minnesota and retiring.</div></div>
I'd pay a 3rd for him, but that's as high as I'd go in terms of picks

I see that we're going down a rabbit hole here. So if the Canucks simulanteously traded Elias Pettersson to the Blackhawks for Taylor Hall and an unprotected 1st, then also swapped their 4th pick for Maroon, they would both win the Stanley Cup AND Macklin Celebrini to replace EP40? I'm in

Maybe he finds some kind of form elsewhere, but Merrill is currently one of the whipping boys in Minnesota. He has not been good at all. As I said above, I would happily give him for free.

Any JEK trade is taking a COLOSSAL overpayment. Good defensive forward good for 60+ points on one of the most bargain contracts in the league

There is like a negative chance JEE is made available. He's an affordable center that eats minutes. And the center position is definitely somewhere they are weak in

As a neutral that wouldn't even be close.
Whilst JEE is an ideal 1bC/2C (one of those options I'd love to see making that issue go away for the Avs.....the Central Division premium would make it even worse for the Avs though) he's Minny's top C and as the above comment says it's not a position of strength for them so it would be highly unlikely he'd be made available bar for an egregious overpay. IF they were going into full re-build mode (it's arguable they should rather than just staying vaguely competitive for years as they have done for a while) then the ask would likely be phenomenal to prise him out of there, starting with a genuine 1C prospect (not a Bedard-like superstar in the making but next tier down). Being signed for that term for that cap hit and still only 26 make him inordinately valuable. If I were putting together an offer from the Avs for JEE it would probably start with Byram, Ritchie, '24 1st just to get a conversation going, and that's before adding in the Divisional tax!!! In other words, he will cost far more than a team would likely be willing to give up.

Treliving needs to stand pat

You may be right. But there probably isn't one difference maker via trade that changes the Leafs fortunes this year. I'm surprised the author of this "Trevling" wants to stand pat as usually he is an active trader for the Leafs. If anything I would wait till TDL and see if any injuries that might trigger that the "trade" button. But generally, these TDL trades are a waste for the buyers.

Big Changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>So if Tuch was essentially Middlestedt and Krebs was essentially a 1st round pick still, the trades were about the same. I didn't actually say Ek was Eichel, I was pushing back on your debunked claim that the suggested return Minnesota would want was more than any player had received in the past 30 years. I am also saying 100% Eichel had the stain on him at the time of not knowing what Vegas was actually getting due to his injury. You know what you're getting in JEEK.
Currently however? They're not <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/786825?post_id=4584063">far off</a> in contract value and getting $8.9m in value out of a $5.25m cap hit player is a pretty sweet deal compared to $10.1m value on a $10m cap hit. Eichel puts up more points, JEEK has been a top 10 Selke nominee the last few seasons so they're just different types of players.
You still can't name another player with 5 years left that's been traded can you? Keep shifting the goalpost all you want, you could at least admit you don't know of one so we can both agree the likelihood the Wild would even consider moving JEEK is slim to none and it would take a stupid overpayment to get them to consider. The trade we're talking about is a stupid overpayment btw. Buffalo would need to be pretty dumb to do it, just like I honestly thought Vegas was insane to give up what they did for Eichel given his health but hey that seemed to work out for them so what do I know.</div></div>
I did think sabres fans would recognize the compare to eichel. Nearly twice the cap hit injury prone and a total diva be ek who’s everything you want in a player. He produces, gives 100% every shift, plays injured, steal of a contract, in his prime and signed long term. Any team in the nhl’s ears would perk up in a heartbeat if there was a wiff of ek being on the trading block. With eichel only a handful of teams kicked tires because of his cap hit and cost. Ek’s cap hit would be a blessing for any team.
