Flames TDL (Assuming Smith is out long-term)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zeerak</b></div><div>Honestly aside from the FLA game Rittich has been lights out and I feel pretty safe with him being in there even if smith is out longer. Even Hamonic has been really good lately, brodie admittedly has been awful. The main problem with this team is their play at home, they **** the bed against FLA and didn't show up for 40 min against Boston. With the way Anaheim and San Jose are trending, as well as LA now getting some wins, I don't see this team making the playoffs anymore. They've dug themselves a hole cuz of their atrocious play at the dome, and for this roster to not make the playoffs is appalling. Gotta think if that happens, GG is out.</div></div>
I agree, Rittich has been outstanding. I just feel Treliving needs to add an experienced NHL goalie for depth if Smith is out for the long haul. Can't count on Rittich to play every game for the rest of the season (I don't trust Gillies as a backup).
They play flat every home game, which makes zero sense to me. What I hated most about the FLA game was that when Hamilton scored his hat trick goal to make it 6-3, he was all smiles. That made me furious and I think the players, aside from Tkachuk, Gio, and Smith, do not hate to lose. The only way they are going to make the playoffs is to start winning at home, and they need to win all the divisional match-ups against the Ducks and Kings.
If they don't make it, I do NOT think GG will get fired. Aside from some power play personnel decisions (i.e. The Brouwer Play), IMO he is a good coach. A coach can only do so much and I believe the blame should weigh heavy on the players' shoulders. He may get fired if they start next season like the Oilers did this year.

I can't say that I really know Johansen's game other than the way he played in the playoffs last year so you got me there.

You may be right but he doesn't skate or play a great 2-way game like Couturier, Johansen, or Barkov. IMO I would take any of those guys over Monahan any day.

Tavares
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ragsandbluesfan</b></div><div>How?</div></div>
When he is not scoring he is not really doing anything. Monahan is not a good skater and loses a ton of puck battles. He has a big frame but does not play physical. IMO he is not great defensively and commits a lot of bad turnovers. He can score but a lot of that comes from Gaudreau feeding it to him. That's just what I see when I watch him play.

I don't think he is untouchable. He is probably worth more but I just feel Mony is a one dimensional player

Tavares
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rbcf</b></div><div>Would much rather keep Monahan than pay another $6+m/year for 3 goals and 10 points more... We can get another forward using Brodie or one of our top D prospects. Signing Tavares would be the worst move ever unless we could get him for 7.5m/year or less which aint happening. Lets let another team go into cap hell like the Oilers are going to be in.</div></div>
I respect that. I agree JT would limit the Flames financially but my concern with Monahan is that if he is not scoring, he is completely ineffective: he loses a lot of battles on the boards and is a slow skater. I feel most of his success is from Gaudreau always feeding him Grade A scoring chances. Just wanted to see what the lineup would look like without Mony.
As for Brodie, the guy has had a trouble as of late. However, I am hesitant to move him because he is such a good skater and has shown in the past that he is very good at starting rushes up the ice. Ever since he was moved away from Gio, he hasn't been the same. I also don't think it is a coincidence that Hamilton is playing some of his best hockey with Gio whereas as before he seemed lost on the ice. Before entertaining the idea of moving Brodie, I would try him out with a different partner, possibly Andersson if he is ready to make the jump. If that doesn't work, a change of scenery would probably be best for him.

Leafs Blockbuster
I agree with you from a Flames perspective. I just think that Hamilton holds more trade value than Brodie so I threw Hamilton in there to make it more appealing to the Leafs. Although judging from the responses here the trade probably won't take anyways

Patch To CGY
That is a massive overpayment for Patch. He is having a down year and is not worth the Flames two top defensive prospects and Bennett, who is arguably playing his best hockey right now.

They are interchangeable. O'Reilly is left handed and Schiefele is right handed playing their respective strong side wings.
