Ultra-Aggressive retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Hurricanes politely decline. While 2023 is a very deep draft, Necas' upside is better than anyone that is drafted after I'd say 9 in this upcoming draft, but I understand the argument down to 13 right now. Canes need someone who can help take the load of KK at 2C and if that doesn't work, Necas will be of more value than an extra prospect in an incredibly deep draft. I think for Carolina, someone like Horvat at the deadline for Necas might make sense, but futures right now doesn't make sense.</div></div>
Cmon man, if I’m Carolina I’m taking that, resigning Nino, and hoping Vancouver sucks. Picks are unprotected so that could be 1,33,65 in a very deep draft. It could also be 32,64,96 but you are definitely getting 3 good picks for necas. Knowing Carolina’s draft record they put it to good use too. Carolina gladly accepts and shuffles around the deck. Tbh I think an offer like that carolina cannot refuse, an overpay I may even say.

AGGRESSIVE off season come on Jim
To be honest the trades seem fairly reasonable people will give a hard time over “cap dumps” but it’s fairly obvious they don’t see the grey area just because a player makes slightly more than he probably should doesn’t mean they suddenly have a huge negative value. Since the cap went flat people have been taking that to the extreme it’s non sense really.

Fixing Canucks Cap Troubles
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pahul</b></div><div>Gaudette and Virtanen have not proved anything. And the cap is flat, they are RFAs. Unless one of them goes clutch in the playoffs I cannot see them demanding $2M+. But they very likely will sign around $1.5M for one year. They also have no leverage. The Canucks are strapped as it is and they know that. If they want more than $1.5M, If I was Benning, I would make it clear they are getting traded. And I doubt Virtanen, being from Vancouver, asks for more. And Gaudette recently got married, he has already likely bought a house in Van. I doubt he will ask for more too. Benning will have to play hardball. And if they do call Benning’s bluff, I’d trade them for a 2nd++ or a Top 4 potential D. And drive them to the airport myself. Everybody will have to take discounts. Markstrom will have to take half a million less than he is worth too. And the same goes for Toffoli. If they want to cash their checks in Free Agency, I would let them. I want people who want to be and play in Vancouver anyways. We have enough depth to make up for their loss. And we can use their cap space to acquire defensive depth in Free Agency short term (Ceci, DeMelo). Also I have enough faith in Demko and Ian Clark to make up for Markstrom’s loss. Ian Clark has never disappointed us before and he won’t now.</div></div>
Covid discounts are coming indeed.
Gaudette & JV will get more but not what they would’ve.

Sens or NJD maybe.

Vancouver Canucks 202223 Stanley Cup Champions
Career NHL
Markstrom .909 Sv% in 229 GP
Jones .912 Sv% in 286 GP
Career AHL
Markstrom .920 Sv% in 165 GP
Jones .921 Sv% in 158 GP
The biggest difference? Jones has faced 28 shots/60 in the NHL, Markstrom has faced 31 s/60. They are comparable talents, Jones is getting $5.75M x 5 on a cap-strapped team, Markstrom's contract is $3.66M x 1. I can clearly see what the OP is trying to do here and it makes some sense for both teams. I don't think SJS should have to give up the extra picks though.

They've got to move Sutter. But I agree they will probably just bury Spooner. Schaller is going to replace Roussel who will be out until December, and then I expect Schaller is either demoted or moved.
