The Argument in Favor of a 10M Lafreniere Offer Sheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tonyhzs</b></div><div>I'd be ok with it being a '24 2nd. Unless someone falls or Stevie has a guy in mind for the NYI pick, I'd be ok sacrificing that 1st. Yes, this draft is deep, and a pick at 20 might be more like picking 10 in a normal draft, those picks are almost always high risk/reward (Caulfield) or low risk lower floor (Rasmussen). Laf is looking for a change of scenery, but he might just be a good middle 6 guy for a ceiling. I'd almost rather swap Zadina for Laf, and give up the NYI pick conditionally depending on both players' performance.</div></div>
laf isnt looking for a change in scenery. He's never made any comment of dissatisfaction. He's been in the league for 3 years, and he's been in the playoffs twice.
He's gotten more and more ice time and responsibility each season, and while he knows he's not earning a league max contract, he also knows the rangers won't hesisitate to lock him up and pay him once they have the money. They're well known to pay their players.

In any case, I'm not a fan of taking on 8 years of dead Cap (well, actually 6 years here)...but -other than the 1 year- the dead cap is small enough that they will not package any significant assets to move him. Well here is is per capfriendly's calculator. The overall term (8 years) is not preferential, but the actual cap hit is not bad at all (outside of year 4, the 26-27 season). My point was, Panarin and Trouba are both off the books that year. NYR aren't in any trouble long term.
Cap Hit
Year 1: -$200,000
Year 2: -$100,000

And sounds like there might be some interest in him from other teams. So why not just pencil him into 4C? I know the $ has to add up...but playing him with two of Vesey, Goodrow, and Motte might create that grinding 4th line. Paying to move Goodrow, or buying him out might just inflict unnecessary pain for years to come. And any way they can push the Cap crunch 1 year further, they will have more options since trade clauses start to ease.</div></div>
He makes very strange decisions, Drury.

As far as calling the offer laughable...I wouldn't go that far. Don't know enough about Chris Drury's nephew to really assign value to this trade. But if Drury is a legit upcoming mid 6 C a trade like this would check a few boxes for NYR. But the way Chytil has come along- CAR would have to over pay for him. And as far as Chytil re-signing, if NYR can't work out a long term deal, I can see him taking a 2 year deal at/around 4.25M per. That would enable him to make some $, but also I believe he can go UFA earlier than 27yo due to his time in the NHL. That timing would work well with NYR ability to shed some big contracts.</div></div>
Talk about timing

Buying out Goodrow would be the easiest without a doubt. At least bridges the gap to next year. Then next year we can buyout Trouba if needed or move Kreider. Either way there are options.

Well we don't have to argue about it or worry about it because Drury isn't trading Trouba nor would Trouba ever agree to play in Buffalo if he was asked.

NYR 23-24
Let me help you out in one word...Calgary. One thing is certain: the Flames are destined to make changes. With both Lewis and Lucic becoming UFAs, the Flames are going to lose its championship pedigree, a season after losing its star power. Youth will not necessarily be the way they go entirely; enter Barclay Goodrow.
With Blake Coleman being the lone Cup ranger, this could be a move Calgary wants in addition to permanence of Duehr, Pelletier and others on defense.
Proposal:
NYR: Goodrow, Barclay
CGY: Kylington, Oliver
On a one-year contract, Kylington helps the Rangers peel $1.1 million dollars off their cap in '23-24, along with the remainder of Goodrow's contract.
For Calgary, they are able to add a second Swiss army knife. The Rangers get a new offensive defenseman for one season paired with Schneider.
The cap savings avoids the buyout option.

Hopeful that one of Kaner or Tank can be retained, and I would prefer Othmann gets some AHL time. The more probable path Drury will try.

And if they decide to be honest with themselves, I don't see how they conclude other than that Panarin is more about fancy plays and "Harlem Globetrotter" hockey than he is about playing a sound, fundamental game which actually equates to team success. He and his monster contract have to go.</div></div>
If he fails with all his best superstar friends on the team, except him to play in the AHL next year unless he agrees to a trade. And I can see Drury doing something similar to what happened to Kravtsov.

PlayOff Mode
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>Barring a monumental collapse (which in itself would trigger all sorts of organizational changes), NYR have a lock on the Metro #3 spot. That said, there is 19 games to see how this team meshes. Given the magnitude of the way this lineup has changed so quickly and the circumstances which created the situation of them playing short the past few games- I wouldn't worry too much about the current funk the team is in.
But as this team prepares for the playoff push, it's all on Gallant to address a bunch of issues including:
1) The turnovers you mention. Panarin is the main culprit. Irony is he can still be very good even when he cuts down the "freewheeling" just a bit. And when he WANTS to be, he can be effective in supporting the defense.
2) Team defense...Forwards need to support the defense, and the lack of awareness in the D zone is mind boggling. Allowing players to get open in the slot uncontested is a sure fire way to shorten the playoff run.
3) Powerplay...is the construction about appeasing the egos of the newbies? Or is it about minor tweaks to PP1 and PP2 (both which have proven capable)?</div></div>
I fully expect Kane to find his game just like Tarasenko 👍 and the team to play better once roster is back to full strength. And does this team go deep into the post season, then great! Do they win the cup, that would be beyond belief, but I'm not hoping. I will wait and see 😀

Yes! I think it starts when stars take team friendly contracts. NYR, EDM and TOR that hasn't happened. While in PIT and BOS it has. That is why they have multiple cups with their star core. But the stars set the tone, money or success.

I agree not to expect too much out of the gate from Othmann and Cuylle- but the hope is that one does secure a 4th line spot. But Vesey is not gonna cut it in top 6. Unless something works out with Kane or Tarasenko, if this is the way NYR go, then "rinse and repeat" come TDL...and the cupboard is really starting to go barren!
And I think Zac Jones has earned at least a 20-30 game trial at 3 LD. Harpur is 7D at best</div></div>
We don't have the same culture as in BOS. It is almost like they know they won't get championships so they demand money instead.
NYC it is business capital nr uno. If I was Laffy or Chytil I would make sure I get paid or make sure I won't stay. Otherwise they will be nothing more than life time 9 Fw.

Yes!, consistent lines for the final push. Despite all the shuffling, in the end, GG is stuck on certain duos KZ, PT, and to a lesser extent CK, others fit in around them and Laffy exhibits his playmaking skills on the kid line. There are only two positions to decide on, Kane and Tarasenko. On the surface, it seems like Kane is the playmaker needed for KZ, but chemistry is more important. Kane mentioned in his intro interview that Panarin was for a short time and he would be happy to play with other top forwards, so we will have to see how it shakes out. Interesting comment about Tarasenko not liking players screening for his shots as much as others because he likes to read the weight distribution of the goalie, which seems would work better on the PT line. GG also said he likes Vesey at LW.

Breaking up the kid line isn't really a big deal imo, but what else happens by doing it here is.
Kreider and Mika have to play together or you're leaving a lot of value on the table. They just bring so much more when on a line together and it's bleeding value to separate them imo.
I think you've gotta at least try out Panarin and Kane for a while before you consider going any other way, but I don't necessarily think they HAVE to be together like everyone seems to. It's just likely to be the best option. I do however think that Trocheck centering Panarin is the best option, because I think he can do a better job at finishing the dangerous chances Panarin is able to set up.
So like I said, I don't think breaking up the kid line is a bad idea in itself, I just think the corresponding moves you'd have to make with it aren't worth.

One thing for certain- if Chytil is moved, he scores 75-90 pts wherever he lands next season…and the Rangers (w/o the 2023 TDL pickups) are combing the scrap heap in hopes a reclamation project can fill Chytil’s shoes.
FWIW, you gotta figure at this point Kane will be coming to NYR- it’s just a matter of how dumb of a deal they put together to get him here…and I say dumb because whatever forward they add- the team will only go as far as the goalie and the D takes them. No problem in putting our faith in Shest….but the D coverage is horrendous. And this is probably more than a systemic issue than a personnel issue.</div></div>

Yeah i mean, Kravstov for just a 5th is really an absurd notion. At the least, we get a 2nd in return. The guy has actually been decent in limited action, but just isn’t in good standing w the club owing to previous years’ behavior. Imo, he still projects as a highly probable top 9 forward. Just needs to add strength. Sad NYR couldn’t develop him properly as he has the NHL talent, unlike Lias.
