New York Rangers trade candidates
Lindgren won't be moved this year, but I would say there is a 95% chance he gets traded after next Season. His current deal and expires, and he will look for a raise on another RFA deal. As beloved as he is, it would be wise to capitalize on his value then. Nevermind the fact that money will already be tight, but his physical style of play doesn't lend itself to longevity (think Dan Girardi). Better to get what you can then before you pay too much for a declining asset.
If they trade Goodrow, they should only do so in a standard trade. Not one where they have to package him with major assets. Otherwise, the Buyout option makes more sense. Would prefer to keep him for another year, but the Cap Crunch is a harsh reality.
Miller isn't going anywhere. Especially if Goodrow gets moved, in which case, he gets a longer term Contract.
Lafreniere gets a Bridge deal. Everyone is looking to poach him now. Disappointing or not, there is no need to move a former 1OA as he comes off his ELC. Not for 50 cents on the dollar.
Tarasenko and Kane are both Out.

If we are going to live in the world of "what if", how about what if Laffy signs before the RFA deadline like Chytil did? What if? But in reality, the world doesn't operate on what ifs. Offersheets are very rare and almost never successful, and usually bring back some retaliation down the line. How many goals has Sebastion Aho scored for the Habs? Because of that offer sheet, Kotkaniemi is playing for the Canes in the playoffs right now while the Habs golf. I guarantee Drury isn't losing a second of sleep over an offersheet and will sign both Laffy and Miller unless he wants to trade them. But an offer sheet threat is nonsense.

no trades necessary
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>Ok. Let's say the production from Kakko & Tara would be equal for 2 years. Trading Kakko for a King's ransom (no LA affiliation) is the kind of move I would want my GM to do. Develop your overall program to be so interesting it attracts UFAs... Develop prospects and keep some of them and trade others for more prospects.</div></div>
I get what you're saying but I don't think it applies in this scenario at all. They don't have a plethora of winger depth, particularly as is they stand to have to move one of Laf/Panarin/Kreider to RW to fill a top 6 spot so its not exactly trading from a position of strength to restock assets. Not to mention Tarasenko is almost 32 and has a long injury history, he is far from a sure thing to continue to be as good as he was even this year. Smart teams don't trade away young ascending players to retain old past their prime vets. If Drury actually gets a offered a King's ransom of like a mid to high 1st rounder + cost controlled NHL player + a good prospect (which I highly doubt anyone would offer for either of Laf or Kakko currently) then its a different story but trading either of them for magic beans to keep Vlad is bad GM'ing. Also, respectfully, the Rangers could ice a team of mites and they'd still be a top destination for players to sign as UFAs or get traded to haha

Goodrow Buyout Makes More Sense Than a Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>And I believe the buyout gets friendlier with each passing year...so if a team were to take him on to add playoff grit- while other young players begin to accumulate playoff experience, if that team decides they no longer need what he offers after a year or two- that team will have options with him: move him or buy him out.</div></div>
Year 4 of the Buyout is the harshest, and that total is literally his current Cap hit.
Years 5-8 are just over $1.2M. Which is still a nuisance, but probably manageable when the Cap ceiling skyrockets.

I've been yelling about this since the moment it was signed. It's like it was designed to be bought out around now. 2 years of extra cap space vs his AAV and then a negligible cap hit to follow, further minimized with the cap going up. No need to trade him, especially not if it costs anything/retention.

I think management knows they aren’t giving them enough opportunity to pad the stats. Might even be intentional to support the bridge deals. I have no idea but they are smart enough to not expect the world from 3 kids on a 3rd line and 2nd pp for 30 seconds if they are even on it.

I would love to see them move krider to RW since he will spend most of his time on offense in front of net regardless of what wing he's on anyway. Then move Laf or Panarin to 1st line LW. Drury will sure have lots to consider this summer.

NYR blockbuster or bust
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>It’s not really a weird situation at all…he’s a young player developing in the best hockey league. His development might be slower than other #1 OAs, but there are many reasons for that- some out of his control. He is not hurting the team in the lineup- so patience is required while he continues to grow. If they decide to move him- unless it is for a massive overpay- would be a huge mistake…so the plan of action is really simple: sign him to a 2 or 3 year bridge deal and let him continue to develop.</div></div>
I still have faith in Laf's development. I agree, give him a bridge contract and see where he goes from there. He's too young to give up on.

Kane didnt do enough to singlehandedly make them good or anything. But if came in planning on him outscoring these guys in the playoffs, you werent going to win anyway.
In the playoffs, he did.</div></div>
You’re looking at a stat sheet for points. Had you of watched the games, any of the kid line who didn’t put up points out played Kane. But ya, if a few good powerplay shifts constitutes as outplaying a more dominant line then sure.. haha.. he outplayed them hahaha… stats show it hahaha

Think it's pretty spot on for Lafreniere. He hasn't done anything better than Kakko, to this point. Would easily say he's been worse. If Kakko can take the Bridge deal he got, I don't see how Lafreniere would deserve anything drastically larger than that.

BUT- that said- the Devils were the better team this series and the Rangers showed what they really are- that which was masked last year: a team whose formula to win is based on “out of this world” goal tending and which lives and dies by the PP. Neither of these are sustainable. NYR need to play faster and get better at 5x5 play. A few personnel tweaks are needed….but what’s really need is coaching to provide the X’s and O’s. With no plan, it’s very easy for a team with fast players to play slow, and vice versa.</div></div>

Rangers vs Devils was just a super unfortunate 1st round match up for both teams. Both teams were both so good and so well constructed. That was the hardest matchup in all playoffs series in my mind. I thought so before the playoffs started. I predicted the series would go 7 and I had New York winning but I knew it could go either way.
I wouldn't make many changes to be honest. Definitely don't trade away Miller. Left D was the only weakness I saw on paper from New York. Don't make it even weaker.

But blend the lines all you want...if they don't solve the way the Devils are standing up their zone entries AND if they don't find way to upset the picnic Schmidt has been having in net, then they might as well get an early jump on tee times for next week.
Will be interesting to see if any adjustments made to their PP...hopefully Zibs is back in Ovechkin's spot- which possibly puts Kane or Panarin to PP2. They have to set up the PP so they have 1 timer options from both sides...we'll see.
As bad as NYR looked the past 2 games, I'm expecting a solid effort tonight. They picked their head off the mat a few times this year when it looked as though they were about to take a deep dive. And with that said, can see the Devils with a challenge trying to close out the series. If NYR do go down without a fight, I'd expect a few changes in the coaching.</div></div>
Personally it wouldn't be good if they lost and got sent packing at their home building. I'm wishing for a better effort. But I'm hoping on anything. Tonight will tell.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>this is my point...he can demand faster play, more physical, more north/south, etc. But without changing the X's and O's of how to attack their deployed players where most vulnerable...the result is running full speed ahead into a Defensive structure which is ready to handle whatever you throw at them! The result? neutral zone turnovers and lots of frustration. Exactly what feeds success of the other team- especially a fast transition team like NJD.
As far as Hughes- I don't think it's lack of interest in hitting him. They covered him well the 1st 2 games...but NJD made their X and O adjustments to get him more space. The Rangers have yet to counter.</div></div>
Not arguing that, all of which is true. I am saying the Ranger players have shown a lack of the energy and effort needed the last two games IMO. They are not moving their feet enough and are getting out hustled, and as such are not playing with the physicality needed to beat the Devils. The Rangers biggest advantage is their physicality, when they use it. If the Ranger players need a coach to tell them to finish their checks and continue to hit and ware down the Devils, than they are in a lot of trouble. That should just be a gimmie.

boys did me proud tonight
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>What about NYR history would lead you to be pessimistic? LOL
I gotta admit: the biggest complaint I've had all year (and for many years) is the coaching...specifically the defensive plan. Well- as I watch, all I can ask is where was all this commitment to D all year? The coaches have done a fantastic job prepping the players to handle what the Devils CAN throw at them. Igor has been locked in- but you can't even give him all the credit. The back checking has been ferocious. Forwards are supporting the D. Passing lanes have been clogged. Hughes has had very little time and space to maneuver. They have played "in your face hockey", yet have not been overly physical in a way to take themselves out of the play. The players have bought in to this, and the results show that even with commitment to D, the goals will come. Sure- nothing won yet- and there is a long way to go (even in this series). But they are playing the way a contending team needs to play. So PLEASE....continue to prove me wrong on this coaching staff!!</div></div>
Yeah they playing really well and I'm happy with these two games. I don't mind being proven wrong 😌 that is the perk with being pessimistic 🤣👍

And unless we hear about negotiations getting sticky between Drury and the agents of Miller and LaF...I wouldn't worry about an offer sheet to either. I don't think either guy WANTS to leave, and offer sheets are bad business between GM's- so they are few enough and far enough between.</div></div>

The Argument in Favor of a 10M Lafreniere Offer Sheet

Unless someone falls or Stevie has a guy in mind for the NYI pick, I'd be ok sacrificing that 1st. Yes, this draft is deep, and a pick at 20 might be more like picking 10 in a normal draft, those picks are almost always high risk/reward (Caulfield) or low risk lower floor (Rasmussen). Laf is looking for a change of scenery, but he might just be a good middle 6 guy for a ceiling. I'd almost rather swap Zadina for Laf, and give up the NYI pick conditionally depending on both players' performance.</div></div>
laf isnt looking for a change in scenery. He's never made any comment of dissatisfaction. He's been in the league for 3 years, and he's been in the playoffs twice.
He's gotten more and more ice time and responsibility each season, and while he knows he's not earning a league max contract, he also knows the rangers won't hesisitate to lock him up and pay him once they have the money. They're well known to pay their players.
