<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>How about putting him in the PP slot Kane had end of last year?
Comes down to whether Lav looks to placate his vets OR do what's best for the longer term picture. Of course if LaF was inserted on PP1 he would have to perform. But he would need a generous window of opportunity to show he belongs (or doesn't belong) there. And the important thing to realize is that IF he is given PP1 opportunity and shows to fit in there, the resulting production should generate confidence and assertiveness which should REALLY benefit whatever line he is on (1st, 2nd or 3rd).</div></div>
4 spots are taken on PP1. Panarin, Kreider, Zibenejad and Fox.
For the 5th spot, he has to be better than: Trocheck (more of a 2 way player), Wheeler (36 years old), Chytil (currently ahead of Lafreniere developmentally), and Kakko (closest in standing, but better at winning puck battles).
If he can legitimately outperform all those players to earn the 5th spot, he'll have every opportunity you want him to have. If not, the blame is on him.

That’s exactly what should be expected. The timelines for othmann and gabe and future pics will slide in nicely as the big deals are being moved out and the money is being invested into our current youth. And like you said, unless there’s a hiccup or an obscene OS out there it should go as we suggest

Good luck getting Miller on 1.2...</div></div>
Yes, Kakko would be the same. Thing is, they already have a precedent set and that’s the Chytil and Lindgren deals. This is how NYR work with the exception of absolute super stars(fox and shesty who both took less than they could have got). So ya, KAM isn’t getting 1.2, it’s more like 3.5, while Laf gets 2.5, Kakko will be 4-5, shesty will be 8. Only way either signs an OS is if it’s term and money, only way it’s not matched is if it’s over a set amount. Everyone said the same thing about the TB players 3 years ago when they were 15-20m over cap. But good luck getting Laf to sign 1x6m, it won’t happen unless he actually Wants out and that hasn’t once been expressed. Not to mention we are the only fan base who hasn’t blanketed him with the term “bust” lol.
Aho signed because he knew CAR could and would match
KK signed because he wanted out
Laf and KAM don’t fit those moulds

Got out of hand
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>So it breaks down to LaF + #23 for #11 + Podkolzin
And then a 2nd to take Goodrow
Neither part of this deal is remotely appealing to Drury</div></div>
I would imagine Drury, if he trades him, would deal Lafreniere for a more proven player. Supposedly Vancouver is interested in Lafreniere, and so this is my take on the trade since Vancouver doesn't really have anything that the Rangers could afford to take on.
A lot of people think Lafreniere's value tanked a ton, and in my opinion, if that is true, he's still worth around a top-10 pick (probably picks 8-12 of this coming draft) since he's only 21. I've seen too many suggest that he's worth a late 1st or less. Of course, Podkolzin's value too took a hit with the season he had, Drury probably should have no interest in him considering how Rangers are struggling to develop offensive players but who knows?
If Drury still wants top 3 value for him then it would just be Lafreniere+Goodrow for 11th OV+Podkolzin+ a 2nd probably. Maybe a more reasonable suggestion would have been Lafreniere+23rd OV Goodrow for 11th OV+ Podkolzin+ 2025 2nd+2023 3rd (75th OV).
Then it more or less breaks down to Lafreniere for Podkolzin+11th OV and 23rd OV for 2025 2nd + 2023 3rd + taking on Goodrow.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FreeTacosAreBestTacos</b></div><div>Take out Lafreniere and <strong>maybe the Rangers consider it.</strong> Otherwise enjoy getting laughed at</div></div>
Rangers would definitely accept without Lafreniere in even if you considered Podkolzin and Goodrow a wash.
Trading back 12 spots from 11th is going to cost a lot more than a 2nd-round pick in a future draft.

The way that team plays D, I'm sure there will be a few cheap, serviceable options out there. But adding Jones- not only might he be serviceable...he could have top 4 potential with them. And with 2 years of dirt cheap cost control? His return to NYR would have to go up. And don't forget- NYR also have a 3LD hole to fill.</div></div>
The Rangers likely value their in house, cheap (and higher potential) LHD option (to fill that hole you said) higher than trading him in division for Drury, a bottom 6 piece.

Classic example of having to give something you don't really want to give to get something you really want/need. Sure- it's most likely that COL deals with their situation by finding a suitable deal involving Girard....but that suitable deal wont involve NYR if Chytil is involved. Can see Chytil REALLY finding traction as COL 2C- a spot they really need to improve (not knowing what to expect w/ Landy). And Toews could be a cornerstone Dman playing w/ Fox. Makes so much sense it probably wont happen!!</div></div>

New York New York da da da da da
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>I see from BUF fans' responses they are adamant about not trading Quinn...which probably indicates this is a trade of comparable value. I mean the trade value I'm putting on Schneider here is that 95% of the trade requests from other teams seem to demand Schneider going the other way! You gotta give to get- yet BUF fans in this instance don't seem to want to accept that.
But I'll approach this from a different angle...great teams seem to be built down the middle and from the defense out. Quinn might be the best player in this deal- and we'll see over time who has the better career- but Schneider is seen as a pillar of the NYR D for years to come. There is a reason so many execs have checked on him. Don't want to diminish Quinn- but wingers are more replaceable than solid Dmen...and in Schneider NYR have a guy with size, good skating, puck moving ability, and a RH shot. Guys like Schneider are at a premium. And NYR need to add Sykora?? NYR have plans for both of these guys- Schneider to replace Trouba and Sykora to eventually be the mid 6 pest every real good team needs. So thanks- but I'll pass on this trade.</div></div>
I’ll throw another wrinkle here:
Quinn is our best/most promising winger player/prospect under 24. On the other hand, Schneider would be behind Dahlin, Power, and likely Samuelson. While currently the Sabres are strong at wing and weak at D, the Sabres can better fix the current D weakness without sacrificing our future strength at W.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>I'd be lying to you if I said I wasn't concerned about NYR ability to develop young players....but just gonna see what happens with LaF, Kakko, Miller, Othmannn, Cuylle, and others going forward. The notion that a team doesn't do a good enough job with development is not reason in itself to abort developing young talent- but more so a reason to get to the root of why the organization is deficient and fix it.
As far as an OS from CAR...of course not off the table- but CAR and NYR have done quite a few trades together...which leads me to believe there is mutual respect between the organizations. A 2X4 across Drury's knees would shatter that relationship and set up a retaliation scenario. There is a reason OS's are infrequent: they are typically bad business.</div></div>
The Hurricanes have managed the cap unlike the Canadians so they could probably be able and willing to outbid the Rangers unless the offer sheet is absolutely outrageous but I get what you mean about Offer Sheets being bad buisness

You can argue that LaF is under performing as a former #1OA- but there is no argument in that he is an NHL player who (while continuing development) is not hurting his team with his minutes on ice. So if you want him you'll have to buck up for him. That article that makes mention of (2) 2nds isn't even toilet paper worthy!</div></div>
Well said. Completely agree.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>athrin</b></div><div>the fact Laf was a 1st OA is completely meaningless to what he is NOW, he is a 3rd line player, Puljujärvi, Jesse is a former 4th OA pick does that mean he is worth a 1st+ in a trade ..no he is a 4th line player, Laf is a 3rd line player and unless a GM overpays, which is possible because GMs do overpay for players, NYR will get a return of what the going rate for 3rd line wingers get.</div></div>
Huh? Puljujarvi was given far many too chances and that was because he was a top4 pick. Not close to the same situation. Laf would need to fail another 3-4 years to be a comparable. Puljujarvi could not produce on McDavid's wing with PP time. Lafreniere produces more with no PP time and on the 3rd line.

And yeah- because of that contract and NMC, NYR have little leverage. If another destination could be worked out Drury most likely would need to take back considerable salary and/or retain.</div></div>
It's a weird offseason because when there are not a.lot of good UFAs, there are a lot of RFAs susceptible to offer sheets and a few teams with big money UFAs they want to move.
New York, Toronto, Edmonton all have major question marks.

Hi from a Columbus fan.
Panarin's only goal in free agency was to go to a huge city, and he wanted to be in NYC. Maybe his motivations have changed in 4 years, but I doubt he waives his NMC to go anywhere else.
Aside from that, he's legitimately one of the best wingers in the game, who will continue to be one of the best wingers in the game for the duration of that deal. He had one bad playoff series, but to move him for a player with perpetual health issues on a longer (and arguably worse) contract and a 2nd round pick is asinine.
