I still like PLD but I don't think he finds his game in LA. 2 million per year is cheap especially with the cap rising as well and compared to a buyout they save money and time with dead cap space.
for example the buyout is 16 million over 14 years and the retained trade would be 14 million over 7 years.
The Kings made a bad trade so besides paying what would be their 3C 8.5 million they can bit the bullet with the retention and actually compete within this window with the assets they gain.</div></div>
Eh PLD has been awful in LAs system with pretty bad partners and still potted 16 goals. Swap him with Byfield on the top line as Kopis winger (something they never tried) that number will go up.
Blake in his presser didn’t seem like PLD is on the trade market and by July 1st he can’t be moved anyhow. LA is going to try and make it work.

He is a top 3 defense man NOT playing in the NHL. He is without a doubt going to be a top pairing D-Man. Him alone probably gets Marner. While PLD is negative value the kings would only trade him to free up cap not add more cap

Well you see, there's this thing called a "cap" and it is in place for teams other than Toronto, too.
Also, the Kings aren't moving Brandt Clarke to move PLD. That's laughable.

Making tough choices for the future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SpiderSpiderSpider28</b></div><div>Is Turcotte waiver eligible next season? Sort of the difference between agreeing with you or thinking that this is a significant overpay</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KINGS67</b></div><div>Hmmm. I don’t think so to be honest.</div></div>
Alex Turcotte is waiver eligible next season. Turcotte is also no longer an AHL player. He has been really good for the Kings while he's been healthy. The problem is that he can't stay healthy.
If he is healthy, he'll be in the NHL lineup, if he's not, he'll be on LTIR. There's no risk of losing him to waivers.
I don't think the Kings are looking to shop Turcotte right now. With Byfield's extension looming, I think they're looking for as many inexpensive skilled players as they can find for the bottom six. Thomas, Turcotte, and Laferriere will all be on the squad next season. Helenius and ****emo will get a good long look as well.

Offer Sheeting Viability
Yeah no chance LA lets Byfield walk for that, you're gonna have to be in the 11.5-12 million range for them to let him go.
Mercer you could probably get for 2 million dollars more but anything less than 8.5 New Jersey probably matches
Florida may let Lundell go for around that

:laugh Rob Blake isn't eating $16,500,000 on PLD for that lame offer.
And sorry PLD didn't want to play in Montreal that's why he was traded to LA.
His future Detroit born wife won't live in Montreal and that was one of the reasons he wasn't willing to accept a trade to go home. Neither PLD or Zegras are Montreal bound just get over it.

If the move you are proposing likely gets the Kings GM fired it’s not really in the realm of possibility is it?

"LA" (meaning Rob Blake) isn't "desperate" to trade PLD; they aren't looking to trade him at all. Blake just needs to get him two good wingers. Viktor Arvidsson would be a start; maybe Alex LaFerriere or Arthur Kaliyev will mature into the finish.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KINGS67</b></div><div>Lines 2/3 could be interchangeable.
Holtz was a way higher pick and kaliyev looks to be on his way out. I figured get the right hand shot in a trade for Kaliyev. I was so high on kaliyev in recent years, sucks he’s most likely getting traded at the draft/offseason.
There’s speculation that talbot could sign 1-2 years less than 3. I’m all for a trade for a goalie like Capitals goalie lindgren if that’s possible. I’m really hoping Portillo can step in in 2 years</div></div>
I was also having high hopes for Kaliyev, but he just seems to not get started for three years now... Most likely he's getting traded, as you also speculated. If Nedeljkovic is not being signed before by the Penguins, the Kings should be the fronrunners to sign him, in my opinion. He will not be expensive and you don't need to give up anything for him. Talbot has been very good this year, but due to his age, I am very concerned, that he will be able to play another year without an injury. Maybe he can be the back up next year or you resign Rittich for less as the backup, as he was also great this year in this role.

Next year
I like the 4th line. But you gotta hope to get Lizitte for $2,000,000 AAV or just below.
If the Kings decide to sign Byfield long term now, it seem like a realistic contract he might be getting.
But: I am confused with th e lines 2 and 3. Why are you breaking up the Kings most socring line (Moore-Danault-Fiala) since Jan. 23? Also why to play Laferriere in the 2nd line? The way he played recently, the Kings better not throw him into the lineup next year.
I also don't see that Holtz's value is higher than Kaliyevs. Nevertheless, I think Kaliyev could end up in New Jersey, just in another type of deal.
To sign Cam Talbot for 2 years at $2,500,00 per season as your starting goalie is probably a bit risky. He is turning 38 before the next season

Portillo comes up only for audition or injury. I think that Blake makes an effort to re-sign Talbot for one season and Rittich or Copley for two.

Cost and availability
LA is not likely to move Turcotte because of his low value. After recovering from concussions over the past 3 years, he finally started making his way onto the Kings lineup this season with regularity. He's got a day-to-day injury now, and will likely be playing for Ontario as soon as Carl Grundstrom is activated. But due to him seeing 1st line minutes with Byfield and Kopitar, as well as his flexibility to play both wing and center, AND the fact that his contract is going to be close to ELC level, he's most likely an invaluable piece to LA's roster plans for next season. They need cheap up-side players and Turcotte is that when healthy.

Turcotte is weird. Probably would take a 2nd for the Kings to move, but idek if they do that because to get a young player with his upside isn't easy. Obvioulsy not getting a 1st but I don't see him getting moved

Isn't it amazing that the same people who think that 30-year-old Josh Anderson will magically snap out of it next season are the ones who think that we should give up on 26-year-old Pierre-Luc DuBois?
And yet they have this wet dream that we're going to give them PLD for pennies on the dollar.

Lol, I don't understand these PLD trades.
I'm no fan of his, but you can't say LA would need to pay to move him and then immediately place him as your 1C. LA would come to any trade discussions about PD with the mindset of "Who are your better centers? No one? Then he's being sold as a 1C."

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>GAA is a largely team stat. Average save% over that time is .903, so yes those would all be statistically above average. Who do you consider a cost effective goalie then? Maybe half a dozen good goalies and even they fluctuate year to year with inconsistencies. But Talbot has plenty of equal upside to improve as well.</div></div>
I don't think the Kings are targeting a long-term goaltender right now. They currently have Erik Portillo in the AHL who is currently 2nd in the league in SV% and putting on a goaltender clinic regularly down there. The Kings aren't ready to turn the starting job over to a guy with no NHL experience, but he's likely going to be the NHL backup next season.
I think they'll go with an inexpensive short term goalie again for next season. Charlie Lindgren from Washington would be my first choice. If Portillo doesn't look good in his NHL debut next year, then I think they'll consider a longer term option. But right now the plan is inexpensive goaltending until Portillo is ready to take over full time, or until he proves he's not capable of being an NHL starting goalie.
