Salary Cap Mode: Basic

Description

A conservative approach to what should essentially be a 3 year rebuild / retool, meant to restock the cupboards and attempt to get this team back on track. I assumed we'd get a 7th overall this year. The general idea is to ice a good enough roster to begin building culture w/ the new coach, but not overextend ourselves.

General Assumptions

- We draft around pick 7
- Salary cap of 87.5m roughly

The Plan

- The first problem to solve is the lack of quality RD. Address this by signing and then trading Chychrun to LA for stud RD Clarke Brandt plus a pick. They get a quality cost controlled LD with great upside, we get an NHL ready youngster and a pick.

- Draft whatever the best available RD is at pick ~7 (hopefully Parekh)

- Sign Pinto to a bridge deal

- Find a guy who can skate with Jimmy. Currently only Joseph is fast enough, we need another speedy guy

- Pray for league average goaltending
- If the tandem sucks we might have to think about buyouts and trading one of Grieg/Pinto/Bath and picks for a goalie
- Ideally they don't suck because we would have no leverage in a goaltender trade
- Soogard please get good so we can solve this problem internally

- Sign some supporting cast for Belleville

- Ideally give Crookshank and Ostapchuk a look on the 4th line

Why do you detaste chychryn so much? At least he doesn't get injured every game like Chabot, and he's better than Chabby anyway. Chabby and Tkatchuk need to go, not Chych.

Brandt Clarke is untouchable whether the Kings re-sign Matt Roy or not.

Really eh? I based it off the scouting report but seem to have missed the mark. Who else could we trade for that involves us signing and swapping Chychrun for some stud + a high pick?

The problem with Chychrun is that he's a lame duck. He and Gavrikov are on expiring contracts and we are faced with the possibility of having to replace UFA Matt Roy this summer. We're going to need to husband our resources for use in that eventuality.

No, even if we manage to re-sign Matt Roy. Brandt Clarke is seen as the eventual replacement for Drew Doughty at #1RhD.
