Interesting on Goligoski. Value is fine, just wonder if Dallas would consider given his age? Hated losing him. Our bigger need is on the right side, he's versatile, but might not be the perfect fit. If I was in the GM chair and this was offered though, I'd think long and hard about it, he's still got plenty to offer for that price.

Is Labanc really thought of that highly in SJ? I'm not sure Dallas would give one of those pieces for him, much less all 3?

All in on DeAngelo trade, but would probably think twice on Palat deal. Not that the trade is bad, but leaves a big hole down the middle if trading both Faksa & Dickinson. Paquette is meh, and Thornton isn't the right fit for that role, especially at this stage. Palat could help, but think that trade sets us back in grand scheme of roster.

From a Dallas perspective, would be all over that trade! Not sure Rangers would be, but if they offered I'd accept quick before they pulled back.
I like addition of Soderberg and bringing Sekera back, but doubt Spezz would return. I also believe we'll attempt to bring in a back-up on a 1-2 yr deal to give Oettinger more time.

Intrigued by the Dallas trade. Might mean additional moves on our side, shifts the dynamic a bit as well, but think I'd do it.

DALLAS
Certainly appreciate the thought, but zero chance this would happen. Even if Dallas would consider a deal involving their captain, retaining nearly half of his deal to play elsewhere just doesn't make sense, especially for future-based assets that would shift the window we're playing within pretty dramatically.

Gardiner Honka Virtanen Wood Haula
I could see Dallas taking a chance on Thompson in exchange for Honka, 2 1st rd'ers who could use changes of scenery, but I'm not sure I could see us also including the 5th rd pick. Honka's talent level probably exceeds Thompson's so even going straight up would be tough, but given Honka requested a trade I think Dallas would consider. If Buffalo said no, we'd likely rather lose Honka for nothing than to pay 2 assets for one that's not a guarantee to get into the lineup.

Trying to win now with TB WIN DAL NJ
From a Dallas perspective - We'd listen on both players, but we're not moving both for a 2nd in 2021. My thought on cost would be a 2nd in 2020 for Faksa (which we'd accept), and a 4th in 2021 would be acceptable for Oleksiak (we'd also accept). Also, if any interest in Honka, 4th rd'er would do the trick!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Heiskanen4Vezina</b></div><div>Why are we signing guys like Fast, Vesey, Hutton, and Merrill to depth positions when we have guys like Dellandrea, Robertson, Caamano, Kiviranta, Gardner, Bayreuther, Heatherington, and Harley that can all fill those depth spots for a far cheaper cost and have similar production. Dallas has been one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to signing pointless veterans instead of actually bringing up the NHL-ready prospects they have.
Bayreuther & Heatherington could have been up last season, but Nill goes out and signs the pylon Polak and his sidekick Sekera. There is no chance that Bayreuther or Heatherington are worse than either of those two. In terms of forwards, we finally have prospects that are NHL ready, and you want to further bury them on the depth chart for another year while we wait for these depth veterans contracts to expire?
Sorry man, but there's really no need for Dallas to sign depth veterans, especially in the quantity that you have listed here. If guys like Dellandrea & Harley aren't quite ready, there are players like L'Esperance and the aforementioned Bayreuther/Heatherington that easily fill a role until those two are ready.</div></div>
I appreciate the comments!
I agree that Dallas has a good group in the pipeline, but there’s a couple reasons why I took the approach I did.
First, depth is important. Despite signing a few free agents to supplement, I also walked away from several. Many of the prospects you mentioned would still get games this season, but it’s a process becoming a pro. Blending the roster with vets and kids is essential, and doing such where roles and responsibilities all fit across the 30+ players that’ll potentially be used across an 82 gm season is a tough balance to achieve.
Having said that, I also don’t disagree there have been mistakes in the process. I too thought Bayreuther and Heatherington deserved longer looks, but nobody thought they fully grabbed the opportunities. Polak was solid in yr1, but agreed he’s not lived up this season. I personally really like Sekera. Regardless, our current D prospects need more time before giving big roles right away. Similar with fwds, although I envision Caamano and Robertson will be two that do see bigger roles next season.
Also keep in mind the players added are assets, so when young guys knock down the door, we can always move players to open up space in the form of future assets to protect the long term as well.
Thanks again for the hockey debate, much needed

Could be another team, last team I did was Ott. He's a RFA, so instead of committing to long term, Stars could acquire a nice draft asset and roll with Dickinson in the same role (who I believe has developed into the more consistent player). One of our few positions of strength, and I like getting the 2nd rd pick in a deep draft. Also why I made the deal for Suomela, which there's a few guys we could pursue for a similar role, but Nill would never trade a C without finding a replacement given the importance he places on the position. In this case though, Dickinson is elevated & motivated, and we bring in someone who is also motivated to get established and move up on a similar path vs. Faksa who's kind of comfortable and streaky in that role.

Thought is they'll prepare as though he'll be starting with TX Stars. If he looks ready, they can send Dowling down, even if requires waivers they'd be ok with at this point. Robertson will also be in the mix, could start down, but he'll certainly get more than the 3 gms he's played this season.

Realistic Pietrangelo landing spot IF STL does not re-sign him
Let me first say, lot of moves and not sure all would work or be necessary, but I could get behind Pietrangelo coming aboard!
Re-signing Bow, L'Esperance would be iffy, Calderone likely not going to happen. I'd be ok with Perry but don't think likely, and would prefer to stay away from Frolik.
Last team I built on here, I also traded Faksa, but did so for a 2nd rd pick in this yr's deep draft. We could use more future assets after last year's buy & push. My team was labeled 'Poised' if want to see another approach.
A lot to like here though!

This is terrible for both ik Trade with Dallas
From Dallas perspective - I won't say trade is terrible, but certainly wouldn't happen. No way we'd retain salary or offer 2 picks in that deal, but pull back the 4th and salary and it might be considered. Having said that, couple other factors I could see negating...
Tampa likely would want to know more on John's situation before trading for him given his missing 18 months of hockey. Dallas also likely doesn't want to move from draft pick assets given current roster, although admittedly intrigued by Cirelli...

I don’t disagree. Collectively the Stars are a good defensive team, so dealing Faksa would be from a position of strength given we’ve developed Dickinson. If we were able to bring in the scoring depth on the wings, which both are also good two-way fwds, then I think it’s worth the draft asset in a deep draft. Team gets better now and in the future. Certainly no guarantees.
Appreciate the thoughts, need a good hockey debate right now :)

Appreciate the thoughts.
Tried to look at as current leadership might. Dickinson is ready to usurp Faksa, so get an asset at the draft for the future. Meantime, bring in couple fwds to compliment that aren’t too expensive, that also have upside.
Hutton is depth, Talbot buys time for Oettinger, and allows Caamano to have a bigger role. Also believe Robertson will be up as injuries come.

Understood that thought. Also know though that a few teams have taken a chance on him and moved on due to inconsistency. Figured 2 defensemen would be good value, especially considering one has term, and the other is looking for another opportunity and wouldn't cost much initially, and has good upside. They may both be fringe at this point, but Duclair isn't likely considered a top 6 guy in most locker rooms either. They'll likely sell while his value is high knowing this could be the peak, so you could be right, but I also think this offer would be considered.

Not sure that'd work for Dallas. Already a D logjam, cap challenges, and a shortage in our bottom 6 at fwd that would be weakened by the essential Faksa/Smith swap.

Flames Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CN10</b></div><div>Oleksiak keeps getting traded for fourth picks. I think teams line up to pay a second rounder for Bennett. Values are way off, and I think the Flames brass likes Bennett too much to move him unless it's in a package for a huge piece to the team moving forward (theoretical Hall trade as the player in the player + prospect + first +).
I would send a late pick + Czarnik for Honka and sign him to a 2 x 900k. Dallas gets a cheap 3rd/4th line guy with some skill & speed for their 7th defense man. We could then run:
Gio - Andersson
Hanifin - Hamonic
Brodie - Honka
or
Gio - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kylington - Andersson</div></div>
If I'm Dallas I say yes to that. We won't have much cap flexibility, but the need for a bottom 6 player is higher than our need for Honka. He's fallen beyond 7 at this point, would be good to give him a fresh start. Let's make that happen.

Ottawa Senators Player Stats Predictions
If your projections play out, curious to see where you'd have them finishing. I believe most 'experts' will have them last overall. Personally, I could see this team surprising as they come together, and being a bigger threat in the East than expected. Every year there are surprises, Ottawa to me could be one this season...they've had an underrated off-season imo.

Big trades with Dallas and Columbus
Tough call on the Dallas deal. Moving Hanzal's salary is positive. I believe they'd like to deal Honka to get a fresh start, and Comeau could be replaced by our young forward depth. However, we have several D that would take the same role as Kulikov, so whereas there'd be intrigue, I believe Dallas passes because it puts them in a weird spot.
Thought is Dallas will put Hanzal on LTIR for the season, and guess is Honka will be dealt for a draft pick. Believe the only reason we've not seen him dealt yet is teams are likely offering a 5th, and Nill probably wants more like a 3rd. As it gets closer, I could see Honka going for a 4th in the end. Best fits at this point are likely Anaheim, Detroit, maybe Vegas...
