First 2 deals would be great, Stars are definitely better. I think trading big rig and cogs will be tough, but if could get draft assets would certainly be a win. We have depth for bottom 6, but would need to acquire more on D if oleksiak dealt...which I’d be for. Re-signing Dobby could be tough given could be last deal of his career, and he may seek a starter’s gig. Not to mention we wouldn’t want to commit more than 2 yrs, and he’ll probably want a minimum of 3. Finding a replacement will be difficult given mkt.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mnwild1790</b></div><div>I thought the same thing when I saw that trade lol. Dallas needs secondary scoring and Jankowski definitely isn't that. Any ideas who you're targeting btw?</div></div>
This offseason is going to be tough. With the revenue teams have lost, I could see a lot of teams playing it safe and using more current assets than they typically would, and not spending to the levels they might've before the pandemic. Dallas typically slow plays young players until they're 'overripe', but my guess is Robertson and Caamano could see time right away with departure of Janmark and Perry...assuming neither are re-signed, which I anticipate they won't be. In my last team I put together, I had Faksa being traded to Ana for a 2020 2nd rd'er and Rowney, which allows Dickinson to elevate, Rowney to support bottom 6, and adds a draft asset to a deep draft. On D, I added Martinez from Vgs in return for Oleksiak and a 4th (which I was criticized for haha), but this knowing we could use another RD to push Klinger in the top 2 pairings. Added Greiss in net for 2 yrs to buy time for Oettinger.
I believe more changes could help, just not sure what spending will look like when taking into account the number of furloughs and infrastructure hits these teams have had to take, it's going to be unique.

If Sandin And Robertson Arent Ready
Tough decision for Dallas. 2nd rd'er probably gets the green light. Tough part is, Oleksiak hasn't ever really fit in Dallas, but he's certainly got more experience than Rosen whose yet to really establish himself across multiple teams and seasons. The $1M retention makes Dallas hesitate, but I think in the end it's too hard to pass up the draft asset and a young player would likely at minimum is equal in effectiveness to Big Rig.

I’m certainly not arguing we’re a solid team, and one that could be built more for the playoffs than reg season. Every team has opportunities, just outlying where I believe we are rn, and what an approach to next season might look like. Believe me, I’m hoping we’re hoisting a cup at the end of the return to play, as ‘99 was a long time ago.

I believe D is our top priority. We really need a top pair RD. Klinger could stay with Lindell on 2nd pair, and bottom pair could benefit from an added resource to push/support Johns and Oleksiak.
Team D is good, and shelters some of the challenges the current D group has. This does create offensive challenges as a biproduct, which is why production is down across the board.
Do we need fwds too? Yes. We’ve got Robertson and Caamano ready now, and others like Dellandrea not far behind. So, patience and a FA or two will help, but we certainly aren’t so far away that we need to push that many future assets to the middle of the table.

From Dallas perspective - no.
Like the player, but this would set us back in the long term. Short term would help offense, but also force a few guys into roles they’re not ready for. So we don’t necessarily get better, dynamics just change, and then we struggle for years after with lack of talent pipieline.

Continue to see the Goligoski trades to Dallas, intriguing. Price is good. Tough thing is you'd be paying future assets hoping you'd win a cup that year, knowing you'd likely not protect him and lose him in the expansion draft that follows. All acquisitions come with risk though. I like the player, the fit, and the price. Could work.

I have no idea what Gardiner would be worth irl but seems like him being moved for a third round pick is pretty common around here. Which could be a steal for a guy that puts up positive possession numbers and has put up some pretty serious points in the past. And like Risto, could do well with a partner like Miro and strong forward support in his own end. We have too many guys that don’t have a strong possession game. I was actually surprised to hear this coming out of Bowness’ mouth but we are too “one and done” on offense and aren’t generating offensive possession and high danger chances. Gardiner for a third is a price I could live with and wouldn’t be overly upset if we lost him protecting Lindell</div></div>
hmmm...Gardiner is tough for me. I like him on a 2nd PP unit, but I don't love his consistency 5v5. One interesting option someone put on here was Montour. Personally I love that idea. Would make things really difficult come expansion draft, but if you get the guy you want you're going to have tough decisions anyway. Thoughts?

Interesting for Dallas. Would prefer to keep Dickinson, but value adds up. If I'm Dallas, I'd counter with a deal involving Faksa to gauge interest vs. Dickinson, even if that shifts the return.

Do like this trade for Dallas. Tough giving up the picks next year, but you're getting the better immediate return by far. If Philly orchestrated, would be really hard to say No.

I have to agree with some of above on Dallas deal. Value of the trade is good, but would force another acquisition on D. Having said that, this could create the options to support doing so, I'd have to think Dallas strongly considers given the number of assets coming back.

Guess I'm just not sold Larsson is a top pair guy, if we made this deal imo Klinger likely stays up and plays with Miro majority of time.

I think value is pretty fair on Dallas deal, but Larsson wouldn't be first target in a trade. We do need RD, but would prefer someone who could push Klinger more to 2nd pairing if can find. Understood price will be higher, Faksa would be one piece, then becomes what other teams may be willing to part with that type of player, and at what additional cost. Options certainly aren't plenty.

Soft Reset Eichel to NJ
From a Dallas perspective, I like that trade. I could see Montour as a nice pair with Miro, slide Klinger down with Lindell on 2nd pairing, could mix up when needed, etc. Don't necessarily want Johansson, but he can fill a void (especially with salary retention) that will be likely left by Perry and Janmark. Solid potential there.

Doing it Again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>Pavelski's contract is the issue in Dallas I think. Lebanc goes to Dallas, is likely to produce AT LEAST at the rate Pavelski did for about $3 million less a year, not to mention the age difference.
If the deal is seen more as a contract dump (which I they are), I would say the deal is pretty bang on. Honka is never going to play in Dallas; and attempts to move him for merely a 3rd were unsuccessful. So to move a not-so-great contract for a playet who can replace Pavelski in the line up for what really is just a 1st? Good deal for Dallas.</div></div>
Certainly appreciate the opinion, but I don't believe perception is reality on this one. Dallas isn't unhappy at all with Pavs. Production may be down, but it's more the system. He's not alone on the roster from that regard. He's been a great addition, and price is just what the market dictated. You need veterans like him, this team is built more for the playoffs than reg. season, so still time for the acquisition to bear fruit.
Honka is definitely done here. 3rd not going to happen, that's agreed. Wonder is now, can we still get a 4th or 5th this offseason based on his play overseas? Time will tell.
And imo - a 1st never enters the discussion with Labanc.
