2nd overall next year and 1st overall season after
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NickC1988</b></div><div>I don't think it's physically possible for the hawks to be that bad. The youth movement on defense will create a very skilled team. I think 19-20 has the potential to be a huge year for the hawks. This season seems like another transition year.</div></div>
Depends on your goalie situation. If Crawford can bounce back and have a solid year, there's no way you guys will be fighting for the top 5 draft. If you have to rely on Cam Ward to play most of you nights, then you're in for a long offseason.

Tobias Reider was a free agent this past summer. If montreal really wanted him, they would have picked him up, which they didn't. Forget trading their best trade piece for a few measely draft picks.
Somehow the ANA trade is worse.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>It feels to me like you're a little light. I think you're right in there from the Skinner precedent but I think that was an anomaly. I think the price for high-ticket last-year-of-contract guys is a good pick or picks, a player off the roster and a prospect. Given Montreal's current problems at RD, I think your package should include someone in that realm.</div></div>
The biggest thing with the Skinner trade is he had a full NMC. The fact that Pacioretty is just a FA next offseason doesn't hurt his value as badly. It still does, but I'll be damned if montreal doesn't get a 1st + prospect like we've been praying for since the last deadline.

Montreal might have traded for Brodin, and Wild WOULD have accepted, if it wern't for the Suter injury. Now the Wild's LD is looking thin without Brodin, and no guarentee Suter will even be the same.

Is Larkin really only getting 6mil for 6? I figured he'd get a lot more and Mantha would get something like 5. You guys have to resign too many players, you're most likely losing 1 of Anthanasiou, Frk or 2zzi

MTL Fans lets talk about THE 3RD SELECTION! Honest from Leafs fan..
I'm happy with the pick. There was no getting cute about it, you want him, take him. We saw that AZI we're interested in a center as well (god forbid they have good center depth) and Ottawa probably wasn't interested. The thing that I like the most about Kotkaniemi over Zadina/Tkachuk is that he WONT be playing in MTL next year. He's young, and it's going to be a full development process from here on out. Montreal won't be a very good team next season, but when their young prospects start kicking into gear, then suddenly out of nowhere Montreal has all this young, competitive talent to build around. This isn't even the highlight of the draft I believe. Montreal really gets juicy with their 2nd round, this is where we'll really build off of, with the young Finn leading the charge.

Yep. It still hurts. But if we ended up trading him the Desert, then there was more smoke under the hood then we probably imagined. Rumours have us shopping him since the deadline, and it appears the GM's caught whiff of it, too. Me and a lot of other Habs fans got really attached to him, so seeing him go feels like putting a toothpick under my nail and kicking a wall. If I look at it from an outside perspective, I don't think it's as kneejerk as we're making it out to be.
Seems we're looking to aquire a list of players who played for team Canada... Price, Webs, Gally, Mete, Domi... We're hunting ROR too, the team is scary, like we got some seriously good players on the team, but no glue to meld it together.
As much as I wanna say **** MB, I can't, cause that's what management wants me to do. He's a scapegoat, like Bettman or Goodell, there to take the heat and walk it off. For now, all I can do it watch with impunity, hoping we don't derail into mediocrity.

VAN, EDM, CGY, DAL, & MTL Trades W/ Zadina as Endgame
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>That is a terrible assessment IMO.
What is MTL losing here exactly? Everyone knows they want Kotkaniemi but know he should be available later in the top 10. We're moving down 4 spots to where most people have Kotkaniemi being taken as early as, a 32nd overall 2nd rounder which is basically a late 1st, Bennett whose a cheap cost controlled center who potentially can be a stud player if given a fresh start and Larsson who everyone knows is a throw in but at his cap hit has zero impact just about on this team. Play him in the AHL if you don't like him. Its not like the Habs are loaded at center on the farm either....
I think you need to keep things in perspective here. Whats the alternative potentially? We take Kotkaniemi at 3 and that's it...... No 2nd rounder, No Bennett, no Larsson (which most people are fine with but anyway).
I'd take that deal and run if this was all that was on the table before I had to make the 3rd pick.</div></div>
No guarentee we're picking Kotkaniemi. If We're not taking Zadina, then I'd take Hughes over Kotkaniemi. Zadina will crack the lineup next year. Hughes probably not, but it could be a possiblilty. Kotkaniemi is 2 yers away from being NHL ready. That's why the 3rd OVA is worth so much, cause stasitsticly speaking, 100% of all 3rd round draft picks play at least 100 nhl games. only 91% of 7th ova's and 29% of 32 ova.
If we're really high on Kotkaniemi, we're getting Chicago's or New york's pick instead. You don't **** around with the 3rd.

No from Montreal. If we wanted Bennett, we'd be perfectly capable of doing so. Johan Larsson is a sad player as well, not looking for more 4C.

I don't see him coming to MTL, but it's a nice thought. Mete is untouchable. We're weak in LD as is, and he's made the jump to NHL faster then most. He's our holy grail and we will protect and cherrish him forever.

It all depends on if he makes it to July 1st. The exact quotes on all the sources I'm seeing have him resigning with NYI, not "I'm not going to Montreal" If anything it would be a three way tie between MTL, STL and SJS. Montreal would be prepared to shell out some major money for him.

Just a thought
That's a good haul for Pacioretty. I like it cause if NYI keeps Tavares they'll be looking to add another scoring winger, unless they're happy with Lee's 40 ugly goals.
Coyle I'm not huge on. He's a righthanded center, but his production is on the lower side. I don't see him as 1C pontential, but may be enough to tide us over for now.
Also, Minne's 1st pick is 22nd overall, and I don't see Kotkaniemi or Ty Smith dropping that far.

MTL Draft Trade; Car according to rumors, and JT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Chicago needs another good puck possession forward and sniper and at a cheap rookie contract to compete. Hawks lost those two things with Hossa and as Sharp aged. The most important part is to get a guy that can have a big impact now and with Debrincat and Schamltz, be the new core for the future.
MTL if they move patches or chucky, duclair could fit in nicely.</div></div>
Zadina does fit the bill, but Montreal has other players that can fit that role I figure. Galchenyuk is obviously top of the line, but he'll cost an arm and leg before we part with him. Hudon is untouchable too. So that leaves Lehkonen, who had an off year but spent time on the first : Very good shot and release, decent speed, good hands, and has another year left on ELC. Should maybe target him.
