Avs trade
That actually isn't a bad trade. That's a pretty good one for one when youy look at it, Avs could use a boost if they're making a playoff run, and a veteran D to bolster NYI's defence with their centers filled neatly.

Step 1 complete. (Pacioretty trade) Commence step 2 (TDL moves)
I don't see Chicago making the playoffs next year lol, but I like the idea of trading Niemi to a team that needs a veteran backup if they are contenders. Not sure if Washington needs Plek, but a 3rd round pick for him at the deadline seems about right given the circumstances. I enjoy Byrons play, but I like the idea that we can flip him for a pick and a low tier prospect if we needed to, specially if we can get him some goals. I also like your lines.

I could see Tatar being work a mid/late first if he is on pace for 20gs before this year's deadline. Pure snipers in their prime are extremely valuable in the playoffs, and montreal can eat cap if they needed to as well.

Uh, with center power like Pittsburgh, why would PIT give up a first and a roster wing for a 3C? Why would TBL release a player, and trade a pick for a player they just released? Why would Chicago take back a player they traded for less when they are rebuilding?

Dumba for Karlsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arousedcat</b></div><div>Michael Russo from <em>The Athletic</em> on why Dumba is so good:
"Since 2005-06, Dumba is one of 15 defensemen to record at least 50 points in a season before age 24 — along with Erik Karlsson, Mike Green, Dion Phaneuf, Drew Doughty, Ryan Whitney, John Klingberg, Seth Jones, Victor Hedman, Shea Weber, Tyson Barrie, Morgan Rielly, Alex Pietrangelo, Dougie Hamilton and Kris Letang.
Since 2005-06, Dumba is one of 14 defensemen to record at least two 10-plus goal seasons through their 23-year-old season – Green, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Weber, Karlsson, Jones, Hamilton, Phaneuf, Klingberg, Doughty, Pietrangelo, Tyler Myers, Aaron Ekblad and Zach Werenski.
And, most impressively, Dumba is one of five defensemen since 2005-06 to score three consecutive 10-goal seasons through their 23-year-old season — along with Doughty, Hamilton, Phaneuf, Aaron Ekblad and Oliver Ekman-Larsson (with Zach Werenski 2-for-2 and potentially a season from joining this elite list)."
Edit: he would also come at half the price Karlsson will, so his contract adds value.</div></div>
Vegas reportedly offered Glass, Hague, Tuch and first for Karlsson, and Dorion turned it down. You're asking for not only Karlsson, but Duchene as well, for less. You can see why he's laughing.

Price and Weber aren't going anywhere. Lucic will never wear the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge. Why would we trade Schlemko (A Left defencemen) for Petrovic (A Right defencemen)? Why would we pair Alzner and Petry when the combined for -78 in the first half of the season when they were together? This Armchair is a mess.

Just dont see any good to stifle the most talented forward on the team by trying to force him to play a position that he is unable to take advantage of his skill set at. really no good reason to play him there
To say you dont need Hughes...a generational level talent, come on man, every team in this league could use Hughes, especially the Habs</div></div>
Of course we'd love to have Hughes.. But to throw away a season just to get a 25% chance at him is not how a hockey team is run.
Drouin is the most trusted forward we have in the lineup currently. I frankly believe he can be a placeholder for now. Danault simply can't. Besides, Drouin put on 15lbs of muscle during the offseason, and towards the back end of the year, he was putting decent offensive numbers on a line with Lehkonen and Gallagher. I guess we just have different views on the team. It's not like Mackinnon is in our pipeline lol.

Drouin is still the most capable player to play center. Actually having a summer to prepare will do him some good. I doubt he will be the long term 1C, though.
Bergevin also mentioned in an interview that he's not going to directly tank the franchise to aquire a *chance* to draft a superstar. Montreal is a young team at it's core, lead by 2 incredible veterans, and we honestly don't *need* Hughes, with our prospects at center right now.
What would do us good, however is draft a player like Philip Broberg or Alex Vlasic, a big physical left shot defensemen who can complement Weber on the top pairing, and round out the defence. We have 15 center prospects, right now.

Nah. I see Drouin being top center again, with Tatar and Gally a wing. DLR might drop back down to AHL, Byron also most likely will be LTIR for a while. Alzner/Petry is the worst top pairing in the league, I see either Mete or Reilly with him. Hudon should be 3rd line over Sherbak, purely because he's accomplished more.
My lines would be :
Tatar-Drouin-Gally
Domi-Danault-Lehk
Hudon-Peca-Armia
Deslauriers-Plek-Sherbak
DLR
Mete-Petry
Alzner-Juulsen
Reilly-Benn
Schlemko
It's not great but it'll do until the prospects step up.

Check out Suzuki's db. Right handed center who got 100 points in the CHL last year, and a good top 9 winger to fill patches spot, and an extra 2nd on top of that. Who wouldn't be happy with that return on a rebuilding team.

Not sure why you insist on getting rid of Peca. At least wait till he's played his first NHL game in a MTL sweater before casting him off.
Why would Duchene or Stone pick Montreal, a rebuilding team, not to mention a city 2 hours away from Ottawa and plays 6 games a year against Ottawa. If I'm either of those two guys, I'm going as far down south as I can go if I reach free agency.

Trading Patch
I doubt Vegas is going to trade any of their established NHL players, certainly not ones that are injured as well. It would also not be in the best interest of Montreal if we we're to aquire players older then average age of Montreals young core (excluding Price, Weber, and Petry, Montreal average age is somewhere around 25). I think it would be best to target prospects from Vegas, as it also line's up with Montreal's prospect spike.

Yeah this is robbery. Trouba, even on an expiring contract is still going to cost more then that. Not to mention Petry has a full NTC NMC. Versalainen is an intriguing player, but he won't be doing much in MTL with the winger depth that we have. Montreal isn't in much of a need for RDs as they are for a star puck-moving LD. I could see Trouba going to the leafs.
I like the creativity, however. Have not seen this type of trade.

Deadline deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>linehan10</b></div><div>a lot for patches</div></div>
Deadline deal depending on how well Pacioretty has been playing/If Vegas is in playoff contention. Vegas has a good 1-2 center line with Stasny and Karlsson, and I imagine they'll look to add scoring wingers as the season goes along. This is also dependent on how VGK deals in the Erik Karlsson sweepstakes. This trade, in montreal's sense, is best case scenario. We could use a killer LD like Hague, who may or may not break VGK's like up and they are deep on the left side.
