Cale Makar is the best hockey player on planet earth right now
I'd have no problem whatsoever taking Makar as my first player if I was drafting an NHL team from scratch.

I hope there are two Jacob Middleton's on the Sharks ... and the far better one is coming the Leafs way.

Good enough then. A lot of people take this site too seriously, I guess.

There's a far easier, and more clear way, of doing this. We have no idea who is getting what.

I find it hard to believe these two players could evoke strong feelings in anyone. At least not enough to think either team got "fleeced".

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>liamarchibald00</b></div><div>The Habs aren't in need of moving Weber's contract. He can stay on LTIR, but Montreal will set the price if Arizona is interested in picking up his contract.
Armia however, move him to Buffalo with a third for future considerations.</div></div>
I'm sure the Canadiens would happily move Weber's contract for a price. Although, it will be to a team near the cap limit that would be interested, not Arizona. I wasn't looking at it from the Canadiens' perspective at all. The deal makes absolutely zero sense from the Yotes' standpoint. They would look to take another Louis Eriksson contract to get to the floor. They're not giving up picks to do it.

They can easily do that w/o giving up picks. Teams will be lining up to give them picks for bad contracts.

Next year if we lose
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>What a weird way to attempt to invalidate my point. I am not saying Mangiapane is better than Marner, nor am I saying anything like "Toronto should add." You were originally responding to the the other user stating their production in the last 8 games. You said an 8 game sample size is stupid, all I did was expand on that sample size to provide a better POV.
I, like you, am not talking about the trade proposed. I was just giving you a better sample size to work with as you may not have been aware of Mangiapane's growth towards the end of last season and how that carried over into this year.</div></div>
Now I must question your reading comprehension skills overall. For the second time, you've totally misrepresented a post of mine.
I did not attempt to "invalidate" your point. Quite the opposite, I clearly stated "Yes, 26 (meaningful?) games is a better sample size than 8. Because 8 games are ridiculous." That was your point as you yourself admit that you, like me, are not talking about the trade proposed.
And let me save you time if you wish to continue. Yes, 40 games are better than 26 or 8 and no I don't care about the growth of Mangiapane's offseason workouts.

I won't question your overall reading comprehension skills, but specific to my post - they're lacking.
I said "pushing the trade aside". In doing so I assumed most reasonable people would understand I meant, in general, comparing two players' overall value based on 8 games was asinine. I'm not sure why you continue to feel the need to argue something I never weighed in on.

We are getting someone with 2 points in 8 games(0.25 PPG) for Mangiapane who is tied for 2nd in the league in Goals with 7(1 goal per game) with a good contract getting around 5 mill for next year. While Marner would be getting paid around 11 MILL. No thanks.</div></div>
Pushing the trade aside, it's asinine to compare the value of two players off an 8 game sample size.

Unless Campbell really falters, I don't see him getting anything less than $6M. He's an older goalie that will be looking for his big contract.

I don't even care about the contract, Rielly is not a #1 D-man on any contending team. So either they free up cap space to get a real #1 in or we're screwed for a long time.

Low Key FAs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TooMalevolent</b></div><div>Thornton really did not prove that. He looked serviceable next to those guys for like 10 games. And that's one of the best passers in the history of the league adapting for a limited time because of elite-level hockey sense. Besides the skating, Ritchie's big issue is his lack of hockey sense. You even talk to people who watched him all year in Boston, and they will tell you even getting on the forecheck in the corners was hard for him because of the foot speed. He's also awful defensively, which is important factor for that line since they play a ton. Again, I think he would work well down in the lineup in a grinding roll. He is good around the net.</div></div>
You're totally missing the point. It has nothing to do with what Thornton did or didn't do. Matthews and Marner produced at a record pace regardless. They don't need another little skilled guy. The need a big body to ride shotgun.
