<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Klearn</b></div><div>I agree. He was somewhat handcuffed into making the EK65 deal, i think from here on out we will see what he's got as a GM</div></div>
I said all along Grier's main goal in the EK65 trade was low retention and that his owner was all over it. He's already paying Burns to play games in Carolina.
He knows Grier inherited Wilson's mess and he's giving him a chance to clean it up. You're right. Grier has more room to wheel and deal now. He may have had a trade(s) made with Dubas or other GM's but couldn't get it OK'd by his owner because the retention wasn't low enough. We'll never know.
I don't believe that trade happens without Montreal helping out. Grier basically ate a turd sandwich to get low retention. He could sell this to his owner so at least for today, he accomplished what his owner wanted.
Edit: Plattner was set to owe EK65 $46 million for the next 4 years. After this trade he owes him $6 mil.
I'd say that's a pretty good win for Mike Grier. Just something for fans to think about when they're roasting Grier.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Klearn</b></div><div>Wonder where they go from here with duclair, granlund, hoffman? Flip them?</div></div>
Grier should be trying to flip as many players as he can. Like Lou did in Toronto. Yzerman did in Detroit. It's much easier selling than it is buying.
Some players will be easier to flip than others. Grier only has 1 retention spot this season. Who does he use it on? Granny? I don't know.
Grier should be busier than a one armed trapeze artist at the trade deadline.

AM34 to the Desert
Coyotes will soon be playing in Salt Lake City. Gary needs to pull the plug. I've been saying this for 25 years now. Some good young talent there. Travis Dermott is still playing in the NHL? 😲

Staying put for 24-25

If you want to respond to a specific comment just hit the blue "QUOTE" box at the bottom of their comment.
But, yeah, there is too much salary and term connected to Goodrow. A rebuilding team won't be interested in him in almost any capacity. So, NY would have to pay to dump him as a pure cap dump, if no other team is willing to take him.

Handcuffed Small Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>turtlemountain</b></div><div>Lmao, what? Look at that trade again. It’s the Avs giving up Girard for two players who are marginal at best.
I get having a homer take but yeeeesh that’s not tethered in reality whatsoever.</div></div>
Realistically if Colorado actually had a better offer on the table he wpuld be gone already.
Teams dont want Girard at 5 million. Hes a undersized and was outside the top 50 in dman scoring over the last 2 years.
We have a pretty clear point of reference in sean durzi who had the same number of points, shoots right, 1.7 million cap hit and isnt undersized and he only got a 2nd.
In a flat cap world girard has minimal value.

Trotz Bold Retool
Barrie will be gone, or if he is back, won't be for that much.
Novak deal seems plausible.
Scheif deal makes no sense in my eyes. Sure he'll get paid, but I don't want Nashville to be the ones that do... likely because...
Fabbro, Tomasino and Parssinen will be getting paid more than that. Wouldn't surprise me for Trotz to try to lock them up for longer term. The trend lately it seems is to give the up and comers term and hope that their cap hit in 2 years becomes a steal of a deal.

Hard to target specific players a year away, but I think your positional targets for next year in free agency are pretty accurate! A vet top 6 F, a RD and a vet G (if Commesso needs another year in Rockford). Nice job.

Orrrrrrr it’s your GM, Kyle Dubas, Dorion, and other GMs that think he is worth a 1st and Frank was just reporting. Ya know like a reporter does, reports things

My Philly Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>I wouldn't say Frank is a conspiracy theorist - he just reports things he hears. And with lots of stuff leaking out of Philly FO this summer I would lean toward thinking the rumors he grabbed onto about Laughton for a 1st+ came from someone close to Philly, not STL. All of the things that Armstrong publicly said would contradict having interest in trading big pieces for Laughton. Plus we know that talks went pretty far with a Sanheim-Krug swap that involved a 1st. That would lead me to think that Frank heard a lot of info and put the wrong wires together.</div></div>
Doug also said he wanted nothing to do with the exact description that Hayes fits so maybe it’s just that your GM was lying and not the reporter?
