Teams dont want Girard at 5 million. Hes a undersized and was outside the top 50 in dman scoring over the last 2 years.

We have a pretty clear point of reference in sean durzi who had the same number of points, shoots right, 1.7 million cap hit and isnt undersized and he only got a 2nd.

In a flat cap world girard has minimal value.

If Drouin plays poorly enough to earn a 900K deal next year, we aren't keeping him. If he plays well, he's not signing for 900k.

Girard is quite a bit better than Durzi, which was already a winning trade for Arizona. Bad comparison here.

I think it’s really interesting when people comment about how Girard is an offensive defenseman. He’s just small and a good skater. He’s not Tony DeAngelo or Tyson Barrie. He has his limitations (not great at clearing net front, not the best shooter), but he would pretty easily be a #2/#3 guy on Montreal’s defense.
