Fiala gets a better return for one, we don’t have the cap space to sign him at the asking terms he wants without losing fleury, deslaurier, bjugstad, dewar, Middleton and more. Plus he doesn’t even play with Kaprizov except for on the power play, which lets be honest, kinda sucked

Absolutely none of the trades the Sabres have made that included sending a first round draft pick has worked out EVER!
Most recently, Kane, Lehner and Montour all played well none of them took the Sabres to the next level and Buffalo received much less when then left the Sabres.
Upon further review, I do not want to travel down that rabbit hole again and will trust Jeramiah Crowe to continue his drafting magic and keep the picks.

I would think Dumba would return at least a first and a third at the 2023 TDL.
I think Buffalo would pass and look to free agency to get a RHD.</div></div>

Take Boychuk instead of Ladd and I'm a little more comfortable with it. It's honestly better for Minnesota that way anyways - less in bonuses and it ends sooner. Meanwhile, the Isles get juuuuust enough extra relief for the next two seasons

Vegas is interested in Petro not just any RHD. Petro doesn’t cost any assets to acquire. A captain and a Stanley cup champ. I like Dumba but it’s not the same

A Vegas trade like this just makes way too much sense. I think the Wild could get more, it took a 1st round pick for the Leafs to move Marleau signed for 1 year and a bit over $6M, well Fleury is at 2 years with $7M and the cap is flat for the next 3 years... I could honestly see a first <em>plus</em> Krebs/Glass in a trade like this.

Labanc is better than Donato by quite a bit, and that isnt accounting for Dubynk. You should expect a return of maybe a third for the package, not a middle six 50 point player

Agreed, I think fair value at the moment is a 3rd for Donato. I wonder if SJS sees positive value for Dubs, which could go either way with retention. I would suggest COL 2020 2nd or Chvslmski and next years 3rd.

They can move Leddy for cap space, pay someone to take Ladd, they can find takers for Clutterbuck, Czikas, Komarov. And worse case scenario, one of Pulock or Toews is lost to keep Barzal. Barzal is #1 on their priority list by a lot.

NYI matches that offer sheet instantly and thanks you for your help.
Barrie is garbage, no reason for us to sign him either, but he certainly doesn't sign for only one year.
The Ottawa trade doesn't make sense. That 2nd rounder doesn't help us nearly as much as those players do, especially if you have Parise and Mayhew as middle six players in their spots.

I feel like Pittsburgh is going to elect to keep their 2020 1st round pick and send us their 2021 1st instead. Plus, I feel like Ottawa could use RD more than LD, so maybe it'd work with Dumba, but either way, I don't see them moving that 5th overall pick, especially along with Norris, who I imagine they value very highly. As for the other trades, I'm open to moving Donato with how much LW depth the Wild have, especially if we get Lafreniere, and I doubt we'll move Stalock. I would guess he's the goalie we leave exposed in the Seattle expansion draft.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KoeberBrick</b></div><div>I don't doubt he's a huge part of their rebuild. If there is something that would really stop the trade in its tracks it would be having Norris in, a worse prospect would make it more likely. My point of view on it is that OTT needs a top 4 D and I definitely think that they can still take a sing on a prospect at #15 that could have great upside. Thanks for the feedback!</div></div>
Its definitely not just Norris. That 5 is going to be VERY hard to pry from OTT hands.
We have 4 second rounds, and were gonna likely gonna move up with 2 of them using 3rds (Dorion has never drafted in the 3rd round) and the islanders 1st as well. Were gonna have lots of opportunity to take swings top 4D prospects.
I mean, we could take Drysdale at 4 or trade down to 10 and take Sanderon (the only 2 D worth taking in the top 20).
OTT is not at the point in our rebuild to trade top draft picks or top C prospects.

Norris is a big part of the rebuild, LBrown is more expendable
Thats not the problem though, its the #5. We need to swing on elite talent and thats not enough to warrant moving down.

Detroit won't be picking Jamie Drysdale...I'd like them too, but they already have their top 2 RHD pairings set in defensive prospects/young guns: Hronek & Seider.
I hope they take Rossi or work a trade with LA so the Kings take Drysdale and the Wings get Byfield.

As an oilers fan you completely nailed who I’d be targeting in the draft but seems like a stretch to still be there. If oilers win lottery I’d consider trading down just to get him. Pretty clear that’s a huge area of need for the club if able to land him I’d be a lot more ok with rolling out kosk next year at least knowing there is a solid plan in place to replace.

Couple of things.
1) The Wild have $16.2M in available cap space this upcoming offseason. $42.1M next year after that. We're not hurting for cap space, even with large contracts coming up in the next couple of years.
So there is literally no reason to think we can't resign Brodin, it'll likely just take place after the expansion draft is all.
2) I like where your head's at. I love what you did here. But I don't see OTT pulling the trigger on that deal. Not when they can grab either Byfield/Stutzle at 3rd ova and Raymond with the 5th.
Just my opinion of course.
Cheers! :cool
