4th is closer. Yes Nylander had a down year but Neal has a worse one. And Nylander has a better shot at bouncing back and being better long term. There's enough reason to believe that Neal is regressing due to age. Nylander was rough this year because of all the time he missed

Quick Breakdown of my thoughts
Calgary absolutely fleeces the Leafs. They get a player who is down on his luck (put in a psuedo-shutdown role with Marleau/Kadri, couldnt produce)
Philly gets absolutely ripped off. Ratcliffe had a crazy good season with the Storm and he could be positioned to be a Top 6 player. Brown is 3rd/4th line at BEST.
Columbus takes the deal 40 times over. They get a late 1st, an upgrade over Jenner and they still get more. Petan has potential, but he could ultimately be our next Leivo unless Babcock adapts.
Carrier had a career year. And he is a decent depth option with Reaves for Vegas. Not sure if they move him for peanuts.
And we need Sparks for expansion. It's either we lose Sparks to waivers or we lose him to expansion. Allows us to keep Kasikuo in the minors. If Sparks survives expansion, then we can ship him off for whatever he is worth at that point. Could be a 1st, could be as low as a 7th.

Keeping it simple
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>Nylander for Pesce would be Hall for Larsson 2.0 (Pesce is very overrated on this site)
This would be Hall, Bear, and the oilers 2017 1st for Larsson.</div></div>
Nylander is way more overrated than Pesce. Toronto's PK is awful and Pesce would certainly change that.

How About Now
To amplify brocklesnar's comment, Las Vegas and Toronto are poor trade partners because they both have the same glaring flaw -- weakness at RhD.

No cap trouble here
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>I agree they are both underpaid here but they arent equal players just because of stats and stats alone don't justify pay, obviously you don't understand that.</div></div>
And the Leafs are run by Dumass who looks at stats only and doesn't understand anything either. In today's NHL GM's use a contract calculator base on stats to figure the players worth, you don't understand that? everybody talks about AVV and cap % more than the players on ice (off ice) abilities now. I'd value Johnsson over Kapanen more, only because the Leafs LW depth is garbage. Kapanen has better speed and 2 years younger, other than that they're equals. Pay them as equals now but with different contract lengths, I'd say 4 years on Johnnson, so he'll reach his UFA status, and 2 years on Kapanen, so the Leafs retain his RFA rights and he can finally prove that he's worth 5+ million (if the 'Yotes believe Shmaltz is worth that already and Tbay has lesser players in Groude, Palat and Miller all getting 5+).

Making Room for the Young Guns
Did you guys skip the post from <a href="/users/draft_em_sign_em_trade_em" target="_blank">@draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</a> ?
It's a difference of opinion....neither one of you are 'right'
Has Nylander been the best leaf? That's highly arguable. He's been very good...but the best? Have you seen Johnsson's stats? Kapanen has been the most consistent Leaf night in and night out, for me..but that doesn't necessarily make him the best.
Matthews has been an absolute beast lately. It's like a light switched off in his head and he's using his massive frame to battle like I've never seen him do before.
Frederick Andersen flat out wins games for the leafs night in and night out while the offence takes its time deciding if they want to play or not.
Nylander is a terrific player. I think his contract will be one we'll be more than happy with moving forward...I wouldn't trade the kid without a major haul coming back in return....but I can appreciate and understand if someone's opinion is that they'd rather split his AAV up between Kapanen and Johnsson and trade him for other assets instead. I personally wouldn't do that...but resorting to name calling and claiming to be 'right' on such a subjective topic is ridiculous, IMO.
Now...as for more of my opinions directed specifically at this ACGM...and any other one looking for the Leafs to add grit....I think we all forget very easily how, just over a year ago...we were begging Babcock to move Komarov lower in the lineup and to replace Matt Martin with Kapanen...and how our team took off as soon as we went with a skilled lineup over a heavy one.
I don't think adding 1 or 2 bottom six wingers with toughness changes the team's dynamic for the better...to me it's going back to the inefficient style of play we had through a lot of last year. In today's NHL, the unicorn's seem to be the power forwards or annoying pests that have top 6 skill. Tom Wilson, Marchand, Max Domi....people who just flat out piss off the opposition..not just because they get in big hits or cheap shots...but as you're chasing them down for revenge they're filling the back of your net.
For me...adding beef like Reaves isn't something I'd consider giving up assets for. On the other hand, I'm also a big fan of having a least 1 d-man that can toss some bodies out from the front of his own net....leafs don't really have that.

Personally I don’t hate these trades. I like the Washington trades proposed by two different caps fans on here better than yours. Brown for Bowey.

Tonight??s starting lineups
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kongol</b></div><div>I would think by now he would have a set line up to continue to build or maintain Chemistry, and only blend things up halfway through a game when it calls for it. I think that is to some extent the issue when passes are just off, or when breaking out their not fully in sync.
I agree. It just usually takes half the game to get him there. Once Ennis returns it will be I retesting to see who sits out (I'm thinking Gauthier)</div></div>
I agree completely. I would think things should be relatively set by now with some tweaks heading down the stretch.. instead here we are.. which reminds me of last year when it took forever to move past martin and komarov.. but to their credit, they're both playing important roles under Trotz this year, and the islanders are right there with us , despite losing JT
