True on the QO, but still Cats aren’t trading Knight unless he falls out of favor. The thing with Mercer is where is he going to play? As a center at best he’s a number 3 behind Barkov and Lundell. As a winger he has the potential to play with Barkov if Denisenko or Mackie don’t show they can perform but if they do then he’ll be the third line RW.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jah1722</b></div><div>5M Dadonov cost a 2nd but yeah a worse player with a higher cap hit in Hornqvist will return positive value. Good one.</div></div> getting a 3rd or 4th is fine. Different type of players so trying to evaluate their value as equal isn’t accurate. Reaves returned a first round pick…why because he was the type of player that team needed. Not arguing that in most instances teams have to pay to shed players with relatively high cap hits but if it fits a team’s need then a pick will suffice.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jah1722</b></div><div>No they won’t. No one is paying for Hornqvist. He’s a 5.3M 4th liner, plays 4th line minutes vs poor competition with poor teammates.
Also the only thing Duclair has been better than Dadonov at this year is finishing. He’s miles worst defensively.
Do Florida fans realize that at most they’ll have 4.5M of cap space going into next season with 15 of the current roster signed? They’re in cap hell with no picks to move cap. They’re gonna have to move prospects to get rid of cap. This deal saves them 5.8M without them losing a significant roster piece and replacing Duclair with a cheaper player of similar quality and a young cheap solid defensive forward.</div></div>
You underestimate what leadership and locker room presence is worth. It is very possible the Cats pay to trade Horny but it would cost a low level pick. No reason to trade Duke and Sourdif.

That’s a no from Florida, Duke is better than Daddy. Plus the Cats wouldn’t want him. Horny isn’t a cap dump, a team looking for leadership and a net front presence will pay a 3rd for one year of him. Would rather get high to mid level picks instead to recoup what they have traded away if they are going to trade Duke. Don’t see them trading Sourdif

Prediction based on Manson trade
A couple of things. First Cats want a LHD so Braun isn’t needed and second Giroux decides his own fate so the value will be determined by if officially he waives for multiple teams. As of right now the teams like Florida and Colorado are rumored to be places he would waive but he hasn’t officially authorized anything.

Don’t think Cats will nor need to include Benning and Acciari. Tippett, Vatrano, and a 1st is plenty for a rental.

True, but Zito is more interested in adding a top pair LHD instead of a bottom pair.

Very easy no from Florida. Doesn’t look like Zito would trade Knight for Chychrun and that’s the only person that would make sense to lose Knight for.

Question to Florida
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habitantlecolon</b></div><div>so he is part of the core?</div></div>
Not necessarily but because he is good and cheap there is no really incentive to trade him unless it’s to address a need or have another team eat a contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DucharmetheDOMinator</b></div><div>Good one!
Am I missing something here??
Luostarinen is not gonna be better than a 3rd line center, and I'm banking him as 4th line.</div></div>
Not missing anything, he can be a 2nd center with a little more improvement however like I previously stated he is young and cheap so unless something comes across as an absolute win there is no reason to trade him. From the Habs side it isn’t worth it.
