LOL that's point of using assumptions, IF A, B and C happen then this is a possibility. If either of A, B or C don't happen, they it's back to the drawing board.

You know we kind of agree right. Stamkos can be as good as he is today in 3 years. But a good GM wants to get value out of the contracts, if you're paying 7 Million you're hoping for 9 million in value.
Do you play fantasy hockey? to win it certainly helps if you pay for 3rd round talent but get 1st round talent. My thought on Stamkos is you can pay him as a 3rd round talent, but that's his ceiling. I would absolutely take Stamkos on my team if I could get him for a late 4th or a 5th round pick.

It's more of a reach to believe there is absolutely no chance of that scenario playing out than it is to consider it could happen.
Also calling someone's ideas and opinions fairy tales and BS does lean to the disrespectful side of a debate.

It's not unheard of for the best player to love the city, express a desire to sign long term and for the Team to do everything they can to convince them to stay, only for them to do something else entirely.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ht42</b></div><div>Lol what..........
Stamkos will likely reach the 80 pts mark and he is not washed........ Tampa put him on the 2nd line because they want to balance their top 6.
Just look how many years he signed, and MTL will likely been a playoffs team during 25-26. He will bring somes leadership for this team.
Don't forget that's extremly possibe because St-Louis and Lecavalier are on the Habs organisation now.</div></div>
I never said he's washed, but the Habs will be doing themselves no favors paying Stamkos for what he is now. The NHL is changing, if any team wants to win they have bet on potential, pay for it and hope that the potential exceeds the pay. Stamkos could very likely be worth 7 million but I doubt he's worth more than that at 35, 36 and 37.

That seems short-sighted. What real contenders are going to afford him today? The habs are working to be a real contender in 2 to 3 years, the ground work is there, if they can sell that idea to petey he becomes a big part of the reason they are contenders.
Todays Contenders that could use Petterson? Boston with no Cap Room and no assets to trade, Carolina has the cap but no assets to trade.
Petterson could always use his leverage to get himself to UFA stats as I mentioned above.
The Habs are closer than you think.

I'd stay far away from Stamkos at that cost and for that Roster Spot and at that age. Stamkos doesn't even play on the 1st line in Tampa, Montreal needs to contend for it all not just a playoff spot.
If Stamkos comes to Montreal it'll be when they are a true contender and he's ready to sign for a vet minimum.

yep, but they're still very young. with some more very very young D-men on the way. Some are going to be worth keeping and some are not, I think Hughes (and the rest of the NHL) could use another year of seeing what this young D corps can do before working the phones to improve the D.

Deadline Deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>According to Tankathon based on GP and P% the Wings will pass the Cat's and they are not selling off assets to tank cause they are just entering their final stages of the rebuild, they may add at the deadline in preparation for next year too. The Cat's aren't catching the Caps, Pens or Lightening for a playoff spot and the Ilse's and Flyer's are going to add as well since they are not looking to tank just retool and have as good of a shot at catching the Pen's and Cap's as the Cat's do, so they could also leapfrog the Panther's. Until the final standings are sorted out and the lottery has been drawn Montreal is <strong>not</strong> trading the Cat's pick. Besides that even if the Cat's finish with the 16th pick they could still pick 6th which would be horrible to include in a trade for PLD, especially when we are adding to that.</div></div>
LOL I'm <strong>not</strong> even sure Kent Hughes is as committed as you are to not moving the pick. Me saying it could happen, does not mean it will happen, but nobody can be that definitively sure about this pick not being traded.

Deadline Deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheRealisticGuy</b></div><div>Like you said it won't happen at the 2023 TDL, but why would MTL offer that for PLD ?
Just offersheet him for 1 year
So the Jets have the option to not match & receive MTL 2024 1st round pick & MTL 2024 3rd round pick
or
They match & PLD become an UFA summer 2024
It's a win-win for MTL and a 2024 1st + 3rd is less to lose then the package above</div></div>
Ok first of all, in this fake GM thingy, Montreal isn't making the offer, the Jets are.
secondly a 1 year offer sheet would be amazing if you're Dubois, ok if you're Winnipeg, and absolutely bonkers if you're Montreal.
a 1st and 3rd compensation means the habs offer sheeted him at a salary of no more than 6.3 million for 1 year. PLD signs it and is a UFA in one year when he can name his price - amazing for PLD. Jets would take seconds to decide to match this, they now have a piece that any contending team wants so they either keep him for their own playoff run in 2024 or trade him at the deadline for a package that will definitely be better than a 1st and a 3rd. Don't forget, Ben Chariot got the habs an unprotected 1st, a 4th and prospect at the deadline.
If Montreal is willing to wait, just wait one more year and it won't cost them a thing except an UFA contract offer. Offer sheeting is an absolutely career limiting move for Hughes.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Montreal is not moving the Cat's pick before they even know where it will land and maybe not even after they know.</div></div>
I'd disagree here. . Florida has the talent to be better and they have extra motivation to make moves to improve at the deadline. Even if they are in the lottery I wouldn't expect them to be worse than the bottom 11, meaning their pick cannot equal Bedard. What are the chances of getting another player with the impact of Dubois? So from Montreal's perspective, if that's the package, they do it in a heartbeat.
That said, Winnipeg is not doing that trade at the deadline. . Dubois is a huge part of their success right now and would be a huge piece in a stanley cup run, more so than Dvorak, Barron and two future picks. Winnipeg can get the same package from Montreal in the summer.
The only way this happens at the deadline is if Dubois is injured and done for the season.

Next Season
I agree, more is probably required, the biggest negative From San Jose's side in this is the 10,000,000 QO that Meier is owed. If Meier plans to go the Matthew Tkachuk route and say he is only doing 1 year to walk himself to UFA, then the price drops for Meier.
When it came to Kovacevic, I had Harris in there. Honestly I like both Harris and Xhekaj and it would likely take one of them in place of Kovacevic.
Wideman and Montembeault can be traded elsewhere for 6th round picks my point in including them is I don't see room for either of them next season.
Dvorak has value and would undoubtedly be a 3C upgrade for SJS.
add more picks, montreal has loads of them. Calgary 1st, a 3rd and 4th.

I believe for this to work with New Jersey, Montreal needs to draft Slafkovský first, then make the trade on the draft floor. I don't think NJ wants to draft a center. It's Slafkovský and then the defensemen on their draft board.

Thread:
Did Kyle Dubas/Auston Matthews strengthen the chances of offer sheets?
Offer sheet Rules state that the AAV must be averaged over the lesser of the term or 5 years. So no one would offer a 6, 7 or 8 year contract because that would automatically mean a compensation of 4 1st round picks.
Now that Matthews has shown the value of a 5 year contract, more RFAs might have some interest. So a 5 year - $50 million contact means the compensation is two 1st round picks, one second and one third. Take a look at this list who is worth two firsts, a second and a third?
Mitch Marner
Patrik Laine
Mikko Rantanen
Brayden Point
Matthew Tkachuk
Brock Boeser
William Karlsson
Sebastian Aho
Granted some of these players are probably closer to the 7 to 9 range. . . in which case the compensation could be less.
I wouldn't mind if the habs gave up two firsts a second and a third for Laine.
