What happens to the cap situation for a team if a player like Ferland retires because of injury?

I'd rather have two more 3-4-5- Defensemen than Hoffman, but that is just me.

Thanks for agreeing with me. If we added these Dmen we would have the best D in the Canadian division.

If it is MVP I think Bo is the third most valuable. Miller is right there but I think Boeser is one dimensional and needs to work on his skating and be more consistent at both ends of the rink. We haven't seen Schmidt yet, you could be right, I don't know.

They are 29 and 30. I was thinking, this is going to be a short season and they would give us stability on the back end long term and we wouldn't be pressured into re-signing Edler next year. If we could get them cheaper I am all in. Might lose one of them in the Seattle draft.

VAN 2020-21
I think they are planning on bringing up Rafferty on the right side, put Benn back on the left. If they do Perry would have to sign between 1-1.5 mil. Do you think Hamonic is better than Vatanen? Hamonic is bigger and a year older, but Vatanen produces more points and can play both sides. I have been leaning Vat. at the same price.

Yea i was thinking he would retire I would just like to get him to work with the young guys and penalty kill. If we could get more for Sutter or give less, I am all for it, but somebody has to go and getting 4 mill cap relief and Ferland LTIR allows us to sing Vatanen, Chara and Perry (mostly for veteran help and spunk).

I'd give a 2nd with Roussel, and no retained salary instead of this.</div></div>
I would like to get rid of at least one of them too. Problem is who would take them. I think with the cap situation unknown for the next two years and the Seattle draft coming up, not many teams are willing to take a chance. Hopefully we can dump one of them in the draft if they only have one year left on their contract. Maybe add a draft pick for Seattle if they take one of them?

I thought there is talk of a 2 week buyout period before the season starts. If can't get rid of Eriksson, next year buy him out. Hog., Pods., Lind, Rafferty all next year, we'll see if any of them develop enough to make it.

Btw, Eriksson has declined faster than most because he takes too many shifts off, because he’s become lazy. He’s not one of the best defensive players because he takes too many shifts off because, we’ll, you get the idea.
As for Ottawa, they have their idiosyncrasies. They don’t want Eriksson corrupting their youth because he takes too many shifts off because...
If you don’t like people’s responses, don’t publish. If you publish, expect some people to give you their honest opinions. If you don’t like it, copy paste everyone with some silly explanations why you think you’re right and everyone else is wrong.</div></div>

Barrie never came to Van because we have Hughes. He would not get the ice time on the power play. Money was secondary. Hoffman has said he would love to play with Pettersson. He is 30 and one good year would set him up nicely for a 3-4 year deal at a high $ amount when the cap raises. The signing values have dropped and as the days go by and less teams are available to sign with they will drop more. None of you know unless you have a direct line to Hoffman or his agent what he will or won't sign for, you are just guessing like me. If Ottawa won't take Loui for a first I am pretty sure other teams will. Again you really have no idea what the management will do at Ottawa or any other team, you are just guessing like everyone else. Loui isn't lazy he just doesn't produce points to justify his salary. He is one of our best defensive players 5 on 5 and penalty killing.

Time to attack
PLDGEY: OTT declines. Not enough compensation to dump 15M in cap. Ottawa does not have a problem with cap space. They want to pay out the least amount possible in salary to get the highest cap relief so they can hit the bottom necessary to qualify under the CBA. For Sutter and Loui the Sens would only pay 4 mil in salary and get 10.375 mil in cap relief and get a 1st round pick. A win win for both teams. What exactly do you think the Sens should get? Please explain.
OrganizedConfusion55: I can relate to the name. The word around town is 2.75 - 3 million per on a 3 year deal.

Roussel is a cap dump. He has 2 years left on his contract at 3 mill each year. Opens up 3 mill. each year and we can use the money for the players we have to resign next year (Hughes and Pettersson). I agree Bogosian and Borowiecki should have been 3 years not 4, no idea why I put 4. WE need to add experienced NHL help on the back end and for 4 million it also give us more depth and doesn't screw up our long term cap. If you can spend 4 mill and get more experienced depth on the back end, go for it.
Hey, TCMonkey please explain why not, it is pretty easy to type NOPE and run away.

To be a free agent a player must be either be 27 years old or they have played 7 years in the NHL. When Pettersson resigns he will be 22 and played 3 years in the league. Hughes will be 21 and played 3 years in the league. Hughes came in at the end of the season and this counted as 1 year of his 3 year entry level contract. Pettersson will have played 3 full years. They both will need 4 more years of playing to qualify as free agents. If they sign 8 year deals at say 10.5 they will burn 4 years of free agency (an option the Canucks would love, who knows what they make 4 years from now: 12 -15 Mill. per year?). Just a guess, but I think they will both opt to sign bridge contracts for 4 years in the 8-9 Million range, become free agents at 26 and 25 and really clean up in free agency.
