pressure move

Created by: Lbb
Team: 2020-21 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 24, 2020
Published: Jul. 24, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Would leave us 25.7 mill for next year. When Sutter gets hurt or Lind falters leaves Baertchi , Hoglander or Ferland (if able) to fill in. If Rathbone or Rafferty falter they can go down without leaving our defense short. Would still have Benn, Juolevi, Sautner, Chatfield or Brisbois to come up if needed. Hopefully one of our young goalies and Hoglander or Podkolzin develop enough to play in the NHL the next year.

How much money do you think should go to Hughes and Pettersson when their contracts expire?

Don't understand the second move at all. Roussel isn't a cap dump.

Your free agent signings are awful. Bogosian to 4 years?

To be a free agent a player must be either be 27 years old or they have played 7 years in the NHL. When Pettersson resigns he will be 22 and played 3 years in the league. Hughes will be 21 and played 3 years in the league. Hughes came in at the end of the season and this counted as 1 year of his 3 year entry level contract. Pettersson will have played 3 full years. They both will need 4 more years of playing to qualify as free agents. If they sign 8 year deals at say 10.5 they will burn 4 years of free agency (an option the Canucks would love, who knows what they make 4 years from now: 12 -15 Mill. per year?). Just a guess, but I think they will both opt to sign bridge contracts for 4 years in the 8-9 Million range, become free agents at 26 and 25 and really clean up in free agency.

Roussel is a cap dump. He has 2 years left on his contract at 3 mill each year. Opens up 3 mill. each year and we can use the money for the players we have to resign next year (Hughes and Pettersson). I agree Bogosian and Borowiecki should have been 3 years not 4, no idea why I put 4. WE need to add experienced NHL help on the back end and for 4 million it also give us more depth and doesn't screw up our long term cap. If you can spend 4 mill and get more experienced depth on the back end, go for it.

Hey, TCMonkey please explain why not, it is pretty easy to type NOPE and run away.

I will second his NOPE with an explanation:

Duclair was one of our best offensive talents last year and is still hitting his stride. He's remaking himself in Ottawa and is getting a long leash from coach D.J. Smith and company. Trading him now would be a step backwards in the rebuild. Especially with this package.

What is offered here is basically 2 cap dumps, another reclamation project in Virtanen, and (if Vancouver is competing for a cup by 2022) a low 1st round pick for one of our best offensive talents moving forward.

Take Duclair out of the deal and Ottawa considers taking 9+ million off your plate for the next 2 years

That Ottawa trade is a pipe dream's pipe dream.
Detroit is realistic.
Hate all your UFA signings except for Sautner.
