This! I totally agree.

Something different
Oilers won't spend a 1st on a 33 year old starting goalie, who arguably was good. Especially since the Islanders are sort of in cap trouble. Either they lower the asking price or they have to find another trade partner. But then again it's the Oilers so they probably do this. :'(

Opinions on Smiths trade value appreciated
Don't know if the Oilers should want/trade for Smith. To me he's in the category of a lower end top 6 forward. Maybe such as guys like Palat, Saad, Hoffmann, Toffoli, Pearson (not saying they're all of equal value, but they're not superstars). But in my opinions still a bit below these guys. Given VGK situation he's more of a cap dump and if not cap dump EDM could really squeeze VGK because they desperately have to get rid of guys. Implying that there are no other trade partners interesed. But that's what I'm saying. I don't know how much interest Smith would draw

Decisive action--big Kuznetsov trade
No, EDM doen't want to become even more 'Torontoesque' by getting even more top heavy by adding a good top 6 forward who wants big money. Especially not for that price! Although Bear wan't exactly great last season he has a lot of upside and two firsts are.... well TWO firsts, which is too much.

That's a more straight up version of what I was trying to say. :D If he proves that he's not as one dimensional as we think I'd be more willing to pay something for him if I was Ken Holland.

The Olofsson is a though one. I don't hate it. But in the end I think it'd be a bit of an overpay by the Oilers. Olofsson hasn't proven yet that he is a legit and consistant top 6 player. So I wouln't give up a promising young forward in Lavoie (who obviously could also be a bust/not make it) AND a 1st. Either Lavoie and a lower pick or the 1st and a less promising prospect.

Oilers say yes, but only if you make it a 4th or lower. I may be overvaluing Jones upside but I wouldn't give much more than a 1 vs. 1. So that's why I wouldn't want it to be too high of a pick. Obviously Keith is declining and will retire soon. An Jones has still a lot of room to grow.

Just my two cents. Trying to be as realistic/pessimistic as possible.
Things I like/agree with:
1) I like the Oleksiak signing although I don't think the money is realistic. Someone will massively overpay him since he's a big young body.
2) I also like the signing of Ullmark. He's solid and the money is fine. But I don't think he's the long term solution. On the other hand he's way better than Koskinen.
3) I like the Hawks deal from an Oilers perspecive especially because we'd get rid of Neal that way. But I doubt that the Hawks would take that. Keith still doen't have negative value and Strome has some value (he's a young former top pick and thus may still have some upside). Neal has big negative value. Jones and Marody have some value, Skinner too (but goalies usually don't get much of a return even when they're good). The 2nd will be a low 2nd. All in all it's a lot of pieces with litte value going to CHI without them getting something they really want (unless they want to use C. Jones as bait for S. Jones to agree to a sign and trade to CHI which is a reach). What I'm trying to say is hat I think this favors EDM too much for the Hawks to take it.
Things I disagree with:
1) Please don't resign Barrie at all. As to your ACGM this is way too much term in my opinion. He's not that good for me wanting him to stick around for that long. Just my opinion.
2) I totally dislike the Kessel deal. He's getting up there in age and hasn't produced in a while (on a bad team with scoring problems, I know). I woudn't want the Oilers to give up pieces that could develop in useful players like Benson, Lagesson and espcially Lavoie. It's not worth the return and getting red of Koskinen. I rather keep him for one more year and still have the young guy and no aging Kessle. Plus hot dogs are better in Arizona than in Alberta. :D
3) Don't think Saad will sign a 1 year deal. It's a risk not worth it for him. He's not a huge scorer and not super young anymore, so if he doesn't klick with McJesus or Draisaitl his value may drop even. If I was in his shoes I'd be looking for a multi year deal on a contending team and rather take a small paycut (compared to what would be considered an 'adequate' salary on the FA markes, which usually is still an overpay).
Not sure:
I don't hate the Boston deal but I doubt that Boston will take it. Klefbom is a huge risk (if it works, he's a solid Top 4 D on a cheaper contract). And I also don't know if I would want DeBrusk. IMO there is better options out there.

What, no? From Oilers perspective even. I know the Kassian deal isn't great but please lets get rid of Neal (and Koskinen) before we talk about Kassian. I see a big chance to get rid of Neal in a Keith deal. I would rahter go down that road.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LetsGoPens69</b></div><div>One unhealthy season?? It happens..
He’s still a legit top 6. 29 years old. Just signed till 31 years old too.
He wasn’t healthy this season. Last season, when he was healthy, had 10 points in 12 games with the Pens. And a 20 goal season combined with Minny and the Pens. In a shortened season
And he didn’t get time this season to build chemistry with any Pens line..he wasn’t healthy..again, It happens.
And it’s not like he’s injury prone and that’s a concern. He’s played 5 straight full seasons b4 last season. Since he was 23 years old.
He still a talented goal scorer and playmaker. He’s fast, good shot, pesky defensively and plays physical, he’s just not physical imposing though. 5’11-195 pounds.
And he still had 18 points(9 goals) in 38 games this season. That’s still .5 PPG; while not being fully healthy and he didn’t even get hot and bring his stat averages up to normal career averages.</div></div>
Like I said. The deal looks fair. The way I see it he has been declining a bit. But yeah, why not. Other guys that are possibly available (like Palat, Killorn, D. Strome, Saad, Hoffmann) are in the same price range and not 100% better in my opinion.

What I think Edmonton should do
First of all I thinks that's too many moves/sigings to be realistic. You won't be able to get all the guys you're in on plus you have to keep the future in mind if you're shopping on the FA market.
1) The Keith deal seems to be a thing these days. I'm fine with aquiring Keith but the price seems to high. Neal must be included in that kind of deal
2) I don't think DET would be willing to take on Neal for a low 1st. Yes, they have cap space but they're not the Salvation Army.
3) That's too much of an overpay for Martinez. If that's the cost for him I'd rather stay away.
4) I don't think the AHL guys will fix our depth problems up front. Being a productive bottom 6 forward isn't that easy especially for young players who are used to being top line guys in the AHL. So in my opinion you'd have to sing some more vets (Janmark, Bjugstad, etc.).
Just my two cents.

Essentially, Poile will not let another franchise decide our future. That's my logic anyways.</div></div>
OMG excuse my writing ("intreaguing"? what was I thinking?). :D :D
I guess you're right on the subject matter. If they have a favorite they'll protect him (although I'd go for Duchene, I think it'd be Johansen) and try to dangle the other one as an unprotected carot in front of Seattle.

Process Behind a Duncan Keith Trade
I don't get where the EDM rumors come from either. I've been commenting on that matter all day long and I agree with you on Keith. I also think that the Oilers could look at him, if he's available and willing to come to EDM. I like your deal as well. I'm fine paying a 1st (it'll be a low/er 1st) if that means we're getting rid of Neal AND Koskinen. I'm not big on D. Strome but at 1,5 AAV he's more than fine and, like you said, he'll still be an RFA. If he has (gets back) chemistry with McJesus we even found our missing top 6 LW. If not he walks or gets flipped for cheap.

Oilers 2122 take 10000000000
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilnate</b></div><div>Yea that’s kind of how I see him too, I think the second pairing left side he still played over 23 minutes a game for Chicagoast year so a drop down to 20 or so might keep him fresher too. My only thing is what happens with Jones if we bring in someone for that left side, I see the lines something like this: nurse-bear, _____-bouchard, russel-Larson, and then laggesson and think koekook played well enough he deserves a 1 million one year deal.</div></div>
Exactly. Keith as 2nd/3rd LD (game to game, depenting on his form/shape) would be fine, good even. Nurse and Larsson had good chemistry so I'd keep them togehter (Nurse more offence, Larsson more defence). And once Keith is done Broberg hopefully is ready.
My D would more look like that:
Nurse-Larsson
Keith-Bear
Keith/Russell-Bouchard
[Lagesson-Jones-Koekoek] --> game to game, scratches, injury fil ins.
I also think that one of Lagesson/Jones/Koekoek could push out Russell as the season goes along.

Please stay away from Hall. He wasn't a fit and won't be a fit. He'd be too expensive for what he'd bring to the Oilders.
I rather take my chance on Klefbom than to take on Conolly.
I don't know if Elvis is the (long term) solution and thus I don't want him (for that price). Imo there is similar options in FA and we'd be losing less/nothing.

I'm not high on D. Strome (neither on R. Strome), plus he's a RFA soon and will be asking for some payment. Imo he won't help your top 6 (there is better options) nor our bottom 6 (he's not a bottom 6 player). With that being said, this deal favors the Oilers by a lot. So I don't think it'll happen. But as an Oilers fan I'd take that, just to get out under Neals contract.
