You see no way possible?!? That's a bit shortsighted. Anyways this is a fantasy trade contingent on them signing so if you're s@%#ting on that part of the proposal then you need to lighten up.

Trading Nylander again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BURGHgirl</b></div><div>A 1C who is a right shot is worth significantly more than a wing. Add in a guy who is slotted in as 1RD at 50% salary. Nylander's value goes down because teams know Toronto doesn't want to pay him. Calgary could sign him next summer for nothing. Minten may be highly touted in TOR, but he hasn't made done anything outside the WHL to show he has higher potential than other 2nd Rd picks. Still think the 1st should go to Calgary</div></div>
This is objectively not true. All analyses say that nylander is owed a higher contract than lindholm. This factors in position. Therefore nylander is worth more. Calgary is having a similar problem resigning lindholm, therefore your argument of diminishing value would apply to lindholm as well

Thanks for giving your opinion without any reason. I really valued it.
We don't really know what the new management's plan is and if they're looking beyond this year, I don't think they pass EMPHATICALLY given the value coming back.

I disagree. On there own the deal is somewhat balanced. The retention is simply 1 year of 2.5 mill. Calagary is getting the best and third best player in this deal. They would only do this deal if they are thinking 1 to 2 years into the future (which they probably should) in which case the retention doesn't matter much

It kind of depends on whether calgary is absolutely in win now mode or if they think a quick retool makes more sense. If I'm calgary and I'm retooling, minten becomes a very interesting prospect and I care much less about keeping tanev

Trading Nylander again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NoWah49</b></div><div>Lindholm and Nylander have similar value imo</div></div>
Certainly similar but every analyst ive read or listened to thinks nylander deserves a higher contract ranging from 0.5 to 0.8 million more. That tells me he's a better player even when position is factored in. I would also value minten as moderately higher than a 2025 1st round pick from florida.

Lots of reasons. The needs of the team have changed, better players in the pipeline, culture sours, talks with agents don't move forward. Things often change in the last year of contracts.

Weird reaction. It's all about precedent. Last year, Chicago took on Mrazek's 7.6 mill (8.6 in actual salary) contract to move up about 8 spots from mid thirties to high twenties. So yes, I can see Chicago, a cap floor team, paying well for a mid thirties draft pick from philly.

Would Nylander take a 1 year deal
If Nylander is older, wouldn't it make more sense for Matthews for to take a 1 year deal, especially given that Matthews will be the eventual leader of the team.

I mean he did when he signed Murray right after getting rid of Mrazek. And this is a better deal. A lower salary for one year. Plus Murray's a hero in Pittsburgh. It's not like Murray had been healthy coming to the leafs so weirder things have happened.

The 3rd and 5th are essentially for Murray. The 1st and two top leafs prospects are for dubois. Maybe its a but light and if so I'm sure the leafs can add. But I don't imagine his value is as high as it should given he's asking for a trade and his contract is unknown

Trade for Wilson
I have no idea. I'm not a GM. But it's effectively Sandin, a 1st, and Kerfoot (who's worth at least a 2nd) in exchange for 2 years of retained Wilson and a third. Maybe drop the third coming from Washington but isn't that the standard for these kind of trades? Obviously it assumes a rebuild from Washington.

Ridiculous but lots of fun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mikearky</b></div><div>San Jose wants Marleau back as much as Toronto fans want him. They will have no money to resign their own players like Meier, Leblanc, Donskoi, Pavelski, Thorton and guys like Nyquist and Kalrsson.
SO PLEASE MAPLE LEAF FANS STOP TRADING MARLEAU BACK TO SAN JOSE. THEY DO NOT WANT HIM..</div></div>
Well obviously, no one really wants him at such a ridiculous cap hit. But if you COULD fit him under the cap (and honestly, who knows what happens with karlsson or thorton), then San Jose makes the most sense. He makes 1.25 mill in salary after July 1st and San Jose stands to make the most selling his jersey and 'retiring the legend'.
