Certainly similar but every analyst ive read or listened to thinks nylander deserves a higher contract ranging from 0.5 to 0.8 million more. That tells me he's a better player even when position is factored in. I would also value minten as moderately higher than a 2025 1st round pick from florida.

The 1st should be going to Calgary. Lindholm, Tanev and retention is worth more than Nylander and a prospect

It kind of depends on whether calgary is absolutely in win now mode or if they think a quick retool makes more sense. If I'm calgary and I'm retooling, minten becomes a very interesting prospect and I care much less about keeping tanev

I disagree. On there own the deal is somewhat balanced. The retention is simply 1 year of 2.5 mill. Calagary is getting the best and third best player in this deal. They would only do this deal if they are thinking 1 to 2 years into the future (which they probably should) in which case the retention doesn't matter much

For what it's worth, Minten is a highly regarded prospect in Toronto

Thanks for giving your opinion without any reason. I really valued it.

We don't really know what the new management's plan is and if they're looking beyond this year, I don't think they pass EMPHATICALLY given the value coming back.

A 1C who is a right shot is worth significantly more than a wing. Add in a guy who is slotted in as 1RD at 50% salary. Nylander's value goes down because teams know Toronto doesn't want to pay him. Calgary could sign him next summer for nothing. Minten may be highly touted in TOR, but he hasn't made done anything outside the WHL to show he has higher potential than other 2nd Rd picks. Still think the 1st should go to Calgary

This is objectively not true. All analyses say that nylander is owed a higher contract than lindholm. This factors in position. Therefore nylander is worth more. Calgary is having a similar problem resigning lindholm, therefore your argument of diminishing value would apply to lindholm as well

There is absolutely no way possible that you guarantee the extensions for these players. Besides can't think of a reason why the Leafs would extend Lindholm for seven years which would start when he nearly 30 years of age.

You see no way possible?!? That's a bit shortsighted. Anyways this is a fantasy trade contingent on them signing so if you're s@%#ting on that part of the proposal then you need to lighten up.

Lindholm has not said he will not resign. He hasn't made contract demands either

You're right abut you been in fantasy land. State just once, when a Cup contender team allows a star player to negotiate a new contract with another team one year away from when his contract expires. Just doesn't happen.

I don't know. If I'm new management in calgary looking at another potential year of mediocrity and a lot of expiring contracts, I would sell half my defense for budding prospects, take advantage of their first round pick and use their massive cap space to go nuts next summer.

Nylander is resigning in TO. In every trade he's involved in, he's the best player in the trade. You lose that trade almost 100% of the time

Nylander seems to be determined to hit UFA next July. I still don't think the Tree trades him. I think he's definitely shopping him. But he's obviously not getting any offers he likes. But all it takes is 1 GM and 1 offer. So I won't say it's impossible.

Lindholm is a very good player. Underrated even. I'd be happy acquiring him. But I can't really tell what Conroy's plan is right now. He has his work cut out for him.

I’m assuming you are implying nylander has made contract demands? None of us knows anything when it comes to the negotiations ; it is all pure conjecture and because nylander plays in the centre of the hockey universe (not implying there aren’t other major hockey media centres but it is undeniable that Toronto is the biggest ) we hear constant stories about what he’s demanding. And Lindholm plays in a smaller market so the chatter is naturally less… long winded attempt to say I don’t believe any of the reports on Nylander negotiation; I’m confident it’ll get done.

Just to add.....doesn't matter at all what Nylander's contract demand are for 24/25. If the the Leafs are win are in a "win" mode they keep him, unless they find a better deal that makes them immediate better this season. It's all so silly about Willy being an upcoming UFA.....so are Bertuzzi, Domi, Lafferty, Brodie, Giordano, Klingberg, Matthews, Samsonov, Murray. They all don't get traded just because they are upcoming UFAs.
I really don't care if the any UFA from any team "walks". Good GMs use that new found cap to sign other players.....it's not that complicated.
