I agree about Abruzzese as I said. But they did just pay you a second. A deal like this is likely happens only at the deadline and taking back a roster player won't cost anything. Especially one who is a UFA.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>Well I would say, MTL does not want to trade Monahan because they want to improve. They want to trade him for futures so they can get better through the draft.
This deal is to mildly help the Leafs improve, but it also does not give the Habs what they would be looking for in a trade, namely futures... regardless of the value which our GMs would need to agree on.</div></div>
Is a second round pick not futures? Is a prospect not futures? Kerfoot has zero value in here I would expect as they would need to move money out. This deal is pretty much all futures for Montreal. Don't understand what you are talking about really. Also I wouldn't say Abruzzese is a great prospect but he's someone to take a chance on.

He's an avid Leafs Troll. A fair deal involving TO has to end with TO losing by a major amount. So in his mind O'Rielly a 32 year old rental who will not be resigned will be worth 2 firsts, Knies, Niemela and probably Nylander as well. Why? Because it has to be brutal to be fair.

The problem is TOR doesn't have the cap space to resign him long term, unless they plan to let Nylander walk-- which makes no sense to give up assets for Meier to then have #88 walk.

Despite Meier having perhaps the most inflated and unrealistic trade value on this website right now, this package would not suffice and is quite short. Seattle trade looks fine though

Holl's minutes need to be significantly reduced, hopefully Liljegren can take the next step when he returns.</div></div>
You could be right, I haven’t seen Dumba play much or anything, everyone just says he’s really good. And at this point I think the leafs just need a change up or something, because it just isn’t working.

Yeah I’m curious what his ask will be. IMO, he’s really not worth more than like a 4x4.5M, but we all know GMs can get loose with the wallets regarding RHD.
Like if his ask is close to his current contact, I’d caution every o team in the league against it.

Yeah I could see it. Kinda feel like Dubas and Guerin would want to wait until closer to TDL, but if we both keep underperforming relative to expectations, something may have to happen sooner.

Simple Swap
I’m actually pretty shocked about the proliferation of this concept that healthy scratches = player value. It ignores situation completely. Additionally, I wouldn’t expect a 1st for Bear, but in the right situation I see no reason why a projected low 2nd or early 3rd isn’t a return.
I like Engvall TBH - but you trade a controlled asset for a bottom 6 forward who the Canes likely have to put on waivers or healthy scratch too. It’s not good asset management.
Canes have 4-5 forwards playing in Chicago that are waiver exempt they could bring up to play bottom 6 mins if necessary.
It’s just not a good trade situationally.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MSZUDY21</b></div><div>Bear is not playing as the canes have a surplus of defense. They have identical caps hits. Canes are not getting a 1st for a healthy scratch that was a 5th rd pick to begin with. Might as well get a serviceable bottom six forward who can play center, penalty kill and scored 15 goals last year.</div></div>

Pretty fair trade. Cap hits are almost identical. Canes get a useful defensive bottom 6 forward. Toronto gets a bottom pair dman that can battle Holl for a spot in the lineup and at the very least re-allocates the money to shore up a position of need.
I imagine Carolina tries to waive Bear first though if they can't find a deal that clears the cap hit.

I think the 1 for 1 trade is a good deal, but to get it done you need to find a team to retain salary on Bear in exchange for a player occupying one of the Leafs 50 contracts. This approach gives Leafs more flexibility saving $1M at the same time. Carolina gets rid of a player not in the line up.

If this is how your GM operates you are going to be left watching him walk at the end of the season. It's just not reasonable. A 1 year rental doesn't get these sort of Grade A prime super star package. Miller is turning 30 and needs 9 million on his next deal.

Kunin apparently wont get qualified per recent reports as he just has not fit in with Nashville and the arbitration factor is a problem as he could be rewarded a bigger contract
Myers for Kerfoot could happen as Myers has also fallen out of favor with Nashville and getting something for him is an added bonus while Toronto can just buy him out and get the 3mill cap relief

It's possible for sure. It's just the balance between what Kyle Davidson would likely require vs the buyout makes it more likely that a buyout occurs.

Not bad, but I wouldn't sign Fleury at that price. It will probably take at least 3.5 million to sign Husso.
I also think Nicholas Paul at 3.5 is a bit steep. I am sure someone would pay it, but for a guy who is mostly a 3rd liner (albeit it a good one) that's a lot. I have him signed on some of my armchair teams but at 2.5 (and of course people say that's not enough, so really... what do any of us know right?).
I think it takes a bit more to get Garland. But I like the intention. He's certainly an improvement (with term) over Mikheyev/Engvall. I think you would have to add a draft pick to that deal... and I think they want a first, which would kill the deal for me.
I'd be more inclined to keep Muzzin another year as he was quite good in the play-offs and he has intangibles the Leafs can use. He had a rough year, but I am confidant he'll bounce back.
Otherwise the names on your team are good... just keep Muzzin and don't sign Fluery.
