Here come Montreal fans claiming Monohan's price is a first and top prospect.

Well I would say, MTL does not want to trade Monahan because they want to improve. They want to trade him for futures so they can get better through the draft.

This deal is to mildly help the Leafs improve, but it also does not give the Habs what they would be looking for in a trade, namely futures... regardless of the value which our GMs would need to agree on.

This does nothing for MTL but give us a good laugh.

Whether you agree with us or not, we're not interested in TOR spare parts.

If there are no better offers on the table I think BG would take this deal, especially if the Wild are out of playoff contention at the TDL.

Is a second round pick not futures? Is a prospect not futures? Kerfoot has zero value in here I would expect as they would need to move money out. This deal is pretty much all futures for Montreal. Don't understand what you are talking about really. Also I wouldn't say Abruzzese is a great prospect but he's someone to take a chance on.

Didn't know draft picks were spare parts.

With respect, at 23 years old Abruzzese is not much of a prospect. He's a career AHL'er or a bottom 6 player. Habs have plenty of those. The late 2nd is OK for Monahan, but you have to pay us to take Kerfoot back and Abruzzese does not get that done IMO.

I agree about Abruzzese as I said. But they did just pay you a second. A deal like this is likely happens only at the deadline and taking back a roster player won't cost anything. Especially one who is a UFA.

From MTLs standpoint: adding Kerfoot and Abruzzese is not a positive and therefore the 2nd - next year - doesn't compensate for them, let alone adding Monahan to the trade...with retention.

With all due respect, that equation has those pieces rounding out as essentially spare parts and does not get this trade done.

It depends on a lot of factors. If Monahan keeps his points pace he may be worth more. It also obviously depends on the injuries amongst contenders and pretenders. Can Monahan make the Leafs better? I believe yes. Will the Habs do it, depends on their position in the standings and what else is out there.

His point pace is what 0.5ppg? That's nothing spectacular. He's 52% in the faceoff dot which isn't bad. He's decent defensively from what I can remember but not great. Like he's a nice player but he's not a stud anymore. A second round pick is a pretty good haul with retention.

I saw many Habs fans ask for a 1st, but never saw a 1st + top prospect.

Personally, i'd ask for a 2nd, with a condition where it becomes a 1st if his new team wins 2 playoffs rounds.

I saw the yesterday someone said a first and top prospect. Your idea is reasonable.

MTL is not making the playoffs and Kerf is a UFA at the end of the year. He could replace Monahan's minutes for the remainder of the year. Ok maybe its a 2nd and a bit better prospect but this deal is pretty close to fair value for both teams.

I think if they sell the Habs want to bring up some kids from Laval or even audition some of the vets. I would also add that with the injury to Reilly, things are getting hairy for the Leafs. Maybe a bigger package including Eddy & Savard should be considered...
