Rutger on Draft Night
That's an expansive package the habs won't do.
We are better off drafting a forward with the 5-6 OVR, then trading up with our assets to get another forward in the top 15.

He rehabbed his career in MTL and he is probably looking for a longterm deal that will carry him to retirement.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jay27</b></div><div>If MTL goes out and spends nearly 15mill on veteran UFAs this year then what happens next year when they need to sign Guhle and Slafkovsky to long term contracts?</div></div>
It a fair point, however if you look at the longterm outlook tab, you can see that the following year, the habs will have 30M$ in cap space to sign them.
I expect Slaf to get something like Caufield’s deal and that they will bridge Guhle.
As for the reason to pick up Stamkos - I think <a href="/users/F50marco" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@F50marco</a> sums it up quite well!
You want that vet presence in the locker room… and so far our vets seem to play on the bottom 6.
Let’s splurge on the old rockstar - we can afford it.

And Vinny Lecavalier working in the org.
His tax residence will likely remain in Florida but 42/365th of his revenu will be taxed under Quebec %. He won't be domiciled in Quebec.
Maybe he wants to experience the passion of playing for MTL, where a regular saturday night win is celebrated harder than all of Tampa's cup combined.

20M$ instead of 21M$ - he probably gets to keep his domicile in TB - so his taxes remain the same.
If TB doesn't resign him - I'm sure MTL could make an interesting bid for him.

Trying to merge both discussions, I'll say that a 1st rd pick would serve better trying to get a better asset. but a Evans + 2nd (and you could add other depth pieces) seems justifiable to me.</div></div>
Evans and a 2nd would be a Great price to pay TBH - I'm just expecting Vegas to ask for the first.

Nicolas Roy would be a perfect addition for a 3rd or 4th line.
He brings that deep forecheck and cycle game that habs lack in their bottom 6. Evans is great defensively - but I rather have a player who spends more time in the Ozone keeping the puck deep.
A Armia -Roy- Newhook line could be great.

Evans + WPG 2024 first for Roy would make sense - A cheaper 4th C option that will do the Defensive missions at a 1.7M$ price tag.

Other than Xhekaj & Tuch, the Habs have no bigger body prospects in the forward pipeline.</div></div>
Don't worry there are plenty of those players on the FA and trade Market. Are stuck with Anderson and Gally on the 4th for 2-3 seasons.

I think our 4th and 3rd line need an effusion of size like Soderbloom.
Although, to be fair, Florian Xhekaj will probably fit the bill and is already in the system. I think we have no assurances that Rienbacher and Mailloux will hit at NHL level - so Barron is -right now- the only NHL-ready RHD rookie that fits the rebuild.
So down the road, I can see the habs trading him if Reinbacher and Mailloux beat him in the line-up... until then, I think he stays.

The list of players there, you realize you listed guys who spent 2 years in the NCAA after draft. Which puts him out of this acgm.
If he was planning on going pro, why even apply to NCAA when he's draft eligible this year?
the odds simply aren't in your favor he's going to 1 and done but you have a hard time accepting that.</div></div>
It's not unheard of and will ultimately depends on his play during his first year. If he scores 45 goals in 33 games next year... I doubt that the habs would leave him in the NCAA for an extra year.
If he ends the season with 25 goals, 25 pass in 35 games but he is -75, then yeah, they might let him dev his D game a bit more in the NCAA.
TBH, habs are not competing for another 3 years - so there is no rush and I expect them to make the appropriate decision with his development... if they draft him.
