What to do with this team
So they do nothing? They’ll miss the playoffs with this roster. Bailey has to be traded, Varly will be back for that price, and Mayfield will be getting at least 3M

Whoever takes Bailey is paying his full $3.5m salary. Not nearly as attractive. Maybe another team takes him for less than a 2nd, but Hawks won't. Gonna be way more teams looking to dump a contract than teams willing to take one. Hawks will just wait for the deal they like.</div></div>
Arizona is most likely not putting Voracek on LTIR because they'll need to hit the cap floor

The cost for Bailey was a 2nd last year, no way its the same this year. Voracek just got moved to Arizona at a higher cap hit (same term 1 year left) for a 6th round pick

He's barely gotten any PP time as well. He actually fits what they're system is trying to go towards

Combining a couple of ideas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>Wahlstrom is a top 5 player on the team this season. I think these tales are from years of being brainwashed that young players aren’t reliable and can’t be trusted in key situations
That being said, I’m fine with the trade because the isles need to be humbled. Wahlstrom is already better than Tarasenko and will thrive on the blues.
You might not realize it now, but this era starting right now and through the decade will be worse than the Milbury years.</div></div>
Look, Wahlstrom won't be the 30-40 goal scorer we once hoped. But he's going to be very cheap on the next contract and he was really developing his 2-way game more this year. We'd be selling extremely low on him rn. Let's just ride him out, hes a capable NHLer. If they just get one more top 6 wing, Wahlstrom on the 3rd line with JGP, and now you have a really solid forward core, assuming a Horvat extension

Just assuming that will be the market. He's got 35 points this year and is an expiring contract. I look at more that we eat Lucic this year to bring in Domi as opposed to paying a 2nd for Domi

So Parise is on pace for 24 goals, stays healthy, hard worker, etc. The reason I believe we can get 2 2nds for him is because of Nick Foligno. He had 7 goals and 9 assists before being traded to Toronto at the 2021 deadline. After retention (was on Toronto’s book for 1.375M), CBJ got a 1st round pick for him. We also acquired Andy Greene in 2020 for a single 2nd round pick. Idk, just seems that the going rate is high

He looked ok in game 1. I don’t read too much into the preseason, but at least he looked engaged and was trying to play with pace.</div></div>
Yeah the Isles struggled as a whole, but Bailey’s play style just isn’t viable for the role we need from him. He’s too slow to not score and play 16+ minutes without being physical. Yeah it’s a Bailey problem, but coaching and management is just at fault as much for exposing him this badly. Like yeah Bailey ain’t that good, but he ain’t that bad either, he can’t control the coach wanted him being a top 3 forward in TOI to play all situations.

If they added a real top line winger for Barzy and pushed everyone else down the depth chart than I think he would be fine.</div></div>
Well yeah, he’s a 3rd line LW and has been playing 2nd line RW since Trotz took over pretty much. Overpaid and overused is the main issue with him, but we’re evaluating him on his production for the money and TOI which has to be negative at this point. If Bailey made 3M and played 13-14 min a night, I’d find it hard to believe he’d receive 90% of the hate he does

Oh I’m not disagreeing with the whole Bailey thing, just in terms of line chemistry for the top 9, that’s probably the 3 with the most chemistry and the fact that Bailey brings down the line so much, A. Shows how bad Bailey is and B. shows how bad this forward group is constructed

That’s the real issue with this group. Lee, Palmieri and Wally really can’t play together imo. Beau and Bailey can’t play together. And Parise can’t be the top line left wing. But it’s early in the preseason so I won’t read too much into it.</div></div>
Beau and Bailey can play together with Nelson. They have some really good chemistry, it’s just Bailey isn’t good enough to play top 6. I don’t think Parise should play top line LW but if I had to guess, these are the opening night lines.

iirc, they also couldn’t have played any more than 5 games and Lee was still recovering from that ACL. Not saying it would’ve worked but they never really had a chance either. Best is to keep Palmieri and Lee apart tho

Isles say no. Dobson isn't completely untouchable but he's damn close to. It's just as crazy for you guys to trade for Sorokin as it is Dobson. 22 year old RHD that put up 10+ goals and 50+ points is extremely valuable

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>YellShoot</b></div><div>Raty is not going to push Nelson to wing. Nelson has flourished as a center and should continue in that role.</div></div>
So here’s the problem, Cizikas and Pageau are true centers. Barzal, while he doesn’t win face offs a lot, is really a true center. It’ll either push Barzal or Nelson to the wing, and honestly they can probably share the center role. Idk, if you keep Nelson as a center, then Raty needs to play wing and he’s not at all a winger
