it's definitely been proven that teams do not need an elite goaltender to win the cup, they just need it at the right time. Lundqvist would be best in a situation where he plays 3/5-2/3 the season.. 50 games should be the marker. The biggest thing about him is that he thrives when it is on the line. He has some of the best statistics over the last decade in the playoffs. He's look out of sorts the last 2-3 years because yes he is no longer 28-30, but mainly because he's had the likes of Staal, Girardi, Kampfer, smith (last seasons version) and AHL defenders in front of him. Also tack into it a style of play under AV that did not fit the team (they weren't a puck possession team), playing square tiles in round holes (starting hayes over 60% defensively when he is an offensive gifted player) and that makes up the rest of the deficiency. I think carolina is one of the top teams that could use him, and they have the assets to get him as well (thinking young RHD or winger) and picks.

Out of all the teams posted (in post and comments), this is the order i can see him going to (if he fully waived that is):
Would want a first rounder also but:
St Louis (kyrou or kotsin)-- probably would have to retain or take a bad contract back, i.e. bouwmeester [would this get us an additional prospect?]
Carolina (Adam Fox)
Calgary (valimaki or andersson)

the rest (isles, van, buffalo, det, ott) are all sortof rebuilding and not ready to contend. If lundqvist would leave, it would be to win the cup.
