Leafs with injuries

The Leafs' don't care if they develop Sandin.
I don't see the Leafs' keeping up the 7D lineup. Bogo will stay in. Dermott will probably start getting scratched as the Leafs' are terrified of losing their pipeline of free wallet fantasy Ds who always turn out to be replacement level or worse.

I think Sandin is NHL ready, and frankly, I'd love to see Liljegren get more than 10 minutes of TOI this season in a few games, but definitely seems like Keefe is riding his top 4 as a top 4, and the remaining dmen are getting minimal 5on5 ice time. Also, with Lehtonen not in the line-up,I'd much rather Sandin be QB on PP2 with Tavares and Nylander over Brodie.</div></div>
While I agree, it doesn't matter. Free wallets will always play because the Leafs' would far rather continue to ruin their own D draft picks then screw up their pipeline of consistently terrible free wallet Ds.

Dermott is 24, has played 180 NHL games and yet has averaged 11:15 in the four games this season with 7 seconds total of special teams deployment. They do not value Dermott and are not protecting him and certainly are not giving Seattle an asset to not take him.

Edmonton will claim dell and out of respect Spezza will remain unclaimed. This will make him waiver exempt.</div></div>
Well yes, I don't trust the insiders, although Mirtle has been pretty close to correct most of the times. I was pretty certain that they would waive Dell and replace him with a higher cap player before putting Robertson on LTIR, but I didn't see them also waiving Spezza for a higher cap player as well.

But in reality starting a game with 11 forwards would not be the end of the world either. The loophole that I like here is no mention of 20 player roster just 18 and 2 meaning that 17-3 would make them eligible for emergency call up.</div></div>
The waiving of Dell and Spezza would indicate that they are trying to get closer to the cap before putting Robertson on LTIR. (In this case I would assume they are bringing up Engvall and one of Barabanov or Lehtonen to get 500K closer to the cap).

Yes, I said that in post 11. However, there is debate over how expansive the covid protocol is. Robertson's knee injury is going to keep him out for a bit, but that timeline will not be assessed until after an MRI. The MRI that Robertson requires possibly qualifies under the covid protocol, and not allowing such a procedure to be covered under the covid protocol would put all players at additional risk.

Robertson cannot be removed from the roster and can only go to IR or LTIR. Either way he must be used for setting the ACSL. Your last point is irrelevant to the fact that they would have $821,667 in cap space if they put Robertson on LTIR and they will not go that route.

Next game assuming Robertson is ok
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>Ltir would put them directly back to where they were before Robertson got hurt.</div></div>
It will not. Not at all. To get full cap relief when placing a player on LTIR you need to be as close to the cap as possible. The Leafs' are not and it would be near impossible for them for them to get closer before they would put Robertson on LTIR. According to capfriendly the Leafs' have $668,201 in cap space. Robertson has a cap of $821,667. If they put Robertson on LTIR they don't have: $668,201 + $821,667 in cap space (which would be the case if he could send him back down), they would have $821,667 in cap space - losing the $668,201 they currently have.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quote:</div>Leafs will use Ltir most likely... depending on injury. Leafs can not use emergency call up until they start a game with 19 players due to cap space, meaning dell would already need to be waived.</div>
Under the new MOU you do not need to play a game with 19 players before you can use emergency recalls (although the MOU was not completely clear that if applied to all circumstances, and because this has nothing to do with covid they may need to play a game with 19)

Putting him on LTIR would give them: $821,667 (as they would lose the 650K of cap space they have when they put him on LTIR - and therefore LTIR makes no sense, but even if they did it would be...) essentially the exact same thing as using emergency recall and they still wouldn't be able to bring Barabanov back up without waiving Dell.

Without waiving Dell the Leafs' options for emergency recall would be Brooks and Boyd from the taxi squad or someone like Joey Anderson. Barabanov cannot go back in.

You can't fix the Leafs. Their big four makes up way too much of the cap. The rebuild was badly bungled due to massive incompetence and they are not developing their prospects properly (also due to massive incompetence).

Not to save money as they are simply exchanging Barabanov and Lehtonen (same pay). According to Mirtle this is just to get Lehtonen some NHL pay and will be reversed tomorrow so the same lineup will be playing on Friday as played on Wednesday.

Trade Idea Just For TheLeafsSeason
The Leafs' should trade Lehtonen, but it should be for a pick, not a player.
The Leafs have too many NHL ready D and that is going to cause nothing but problems - both now and long term. As Mirtle at <a href="https://theathletic.com/2181559/2020/11/06/mirtle-mailbag-should-the-leafs-play-at-bmo-plus-eric-joyce-line-combos-more/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">The Athletic</a> responded to a question where the person said that having too many NHL ready players is seen as positive thing.
"Normally its a significant negative."
And that is in a normal season. Wait until the Marlies don't get permission to play and the Leafs' are playing a 27 year old who is UFA this summer and was not good enough to make the starting lineup despite the advantage of having played all fall simply because they feel they need to play free wallets.

What I still Dont Get
"Why did we even bring two KHL player's. Clearly showed last night that Barabanov was bad and Lehtonen will be bad."
Pretty simple. The team is terrible at development, and refuses to properly integrate young players into the lineup and therefore relies on free wallets instead. This was what the Detroit model really was (despite the myth that Detroit overcooked their prospects until they were ready to take major roles, the reality is that their team was built around UFAs, over-seas free wallets, and the odd prospect who was good enough to play immediately. Their prospects just rotted in the minors never becoming anything because the team would never give them a chance).
Imagine playing Barabanov when Robertson has no where to play. The same goes not developing young D because you need to play in a bunch of games a 27 year old D who will be UFA in the summer and despite having the massive advantage of having played all fall couldn't crack the opening lineup. And then, of course, there is the effects that it has on the rest of the team knowing that management treats one group of players completely differently: the free-wallets, who have never played an NHL game, but are guaranteed a spot and need to thoroughly play themselves out of the lineup.
But the fans won't care as long as 1 in 10 free wallets turns out to a middle six winger like Mik.

Game Two vs Oilers
Anderson and Romanov played exactly as I expected them to. Although I was expecting the coaching staff to (wrongly) be more cautious and that it would take half the season before Romanov would be getting top-4 minutes. Happy to see they were smarter than I thought. Sad that Toronto will continue their anti-development strategies with their young D.
Anderson is a good example of the extreme biases that 99% of the people on here have. He was always far, far better then the pure lunacy that was spread around here. He was the perfect acquisition for the Habs, and makes his line and the team much better.
He is exactly what Toronto needs but they wouldn't pay the cost. This Montreal team beats Toronto in a playoff series 97 times out 100.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habsfan01</b></div><div>sure he will hes only 22 and defenceman take longer to develop</div></div>
This is a commonly believed myth, but the difference in age is only slightly older. Among D, drafted in the first 2 rounds who become top-4 the average age when becoming full-time in the NHL is 20 1/2 years old. Most of those who are older than that were delayed because either they went the college route or stayed in Europe. Liljegren has spent 3 years in the AHL and is not among the team's top-8. I don't blame Liljegren. The team is very bad at developing D. His chances of becoming a top-4 are very small and certainly not next year.
That doesn't even count how this year will most likely be a completely lost year for development. It is looking increasingly unlikely that the ON Gov will give the Marlies permission to play in the province and the Leafs' did absolutely nothing to prepare for the current reality with their top prospects. In fact they were so stupid as to not have Robertson go to the WJC.
