Yay. BUT, every time this guy shows up anywhere on this website (or really anywhere), people make the Carolina joke. The less I hear about this guy, unfortunately, the better, cus I hate that joke.
But for real. I like him, he can easily slot in for injuries and be a solid NHL top 6 guy. Also, I get a feeling Lou has a Leddy or Boychuk trade up his sleeve.

No way I'd drop Bellows to drop Boychuk. Boychuk may be overpaid, but he isn't completely useless. He still plays okay, and could be a good mentor on Ottawa. The second would do, and if I had to, I'd throw in a third too, but Bellows could be a solid sniper for Barzy in the future.

Solid guy. Aging, but solid. Good price. At worst, he'll be a 7th D-man behind young guys by 2022.

You don't watch the Islanders. When Pelech is out, we suffer immensely. When Pulock is out, we slot someone in and it's not too bad. Pelech is almost like a second goalie, and anyone from Isles Nation would agree he is our best defensemen, and one of our best players.

Like I said in the post, I think Bailey just would add too much to a Hoffman line to be the piece to trade. Eberle, I could trade. Keeping Lee would be fine, I just personally felt he was the odd man out after watching him play and reading into it a bit. Trading captains sucks, but hockey is a business.

After Watching Round 2 and 3 -- My Changes
I have a confession to make: Until these playoffs, I didn't watch every Isles game. I DID watch them occasionally, but since Round 2 i've started watching every one; a trend I intend to continue starting next season. With the knowledge of actually WATCHING the team I love in hand, here's what I would do this offseason.
Ladd - LTIR. His knees are titanium, and he's getting old. I'd imagine he retires or gets buried on Robidas Island starting next season.
Kuhnhackl - If he takes a cheap deal, we can happily keep him around in the same healthy scratch type role we've had him in for the last few years. He's a solid guy and I like his play.
Hoffman - We NEED goal scoring. That was supposed to be Panarin, but we were unable to acquire him. A guy like Hoffman would thrive on a line with 2 elite passers, and if he takes a $8,000,000-ish deal, we can have him be the bulwark of the team. I'd imagine Trotz can turn his already two-way game into an even more solidly defensive guy while being our dedicated first-line sniper. I don't care how you get him here, Lou, but get him here.

2-7-2 - what to do
I'm just not sure if the solution was to trade for more than a Pelech stand-in and a defensive two-way third-line center at the deadline, or just to shake up our lines and stop giving these worthless roster-riders Komarov and Martin spots over young guys. But for now; all we can do is try the youth and try and get some goal-scoring going.

That's the thing, any trade I would approve of really only benefits the Isles, haha. I wouldn't mind him as an Islander, I just would like to only have to pay him sub $5mn.

Minnesota, rightfully, didn't want to be on the hook for 33ish% of his contract AND all of Ladd's contract.</div></div>
In an ideal world, I'd want 50%, but thats just not possible. I just feel like Parise should best be left as a member of the Wild.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>Other than the addition of Dal Colle it isn't that far off the renditions I've seen? This seems like fair value. Between 750k and 1M retention for ladd, a prospect and a late pick. You aren't getting Parise in a ladd swap for nothing.</div></div>
I'm not, in any universe, giving up Kieffer Bellows (2016 1st round pick and future top 6 forward), Dal Colle, and a fourth just to get rid of Ladd and take on another old guy who's going to hit a Ladd-like decline within a couple of years anyways, while still paying him $1,000,000+ more than Ladd would've been getting paid, assuming he wasnt buried which just isnt the case. I'd rather pay an AHLer $4,625,000 than an AHLer with 1 good-ish year left $6,538,461.

What do you all think of Parise potentially going to the Islanders?</div></div>
Wasn't on much today. I hated the idea of eating Parise's contract, which ends when he's 40. If there was a 50% retainment and Ladd was going the other way, maybe - but that's hardly possible without us giving up something BIG.

Isles Nation - LouCon I
"LouCon" is the tri-annual checkup on Lou Lamoriello that I'm starting, the first one being at the TDL, second one being at the draft and the third and final one being on July 2nd. Basically, I ask your opinions on Lou and give mine. Do you think Lou is going to rely on Andy Greene for scoring, or are we going to get a good forward rental? We're running low on options with Toffoli being traded, that was my biggest candidate for a mid-value mid-tier top 6 player. Possibly getting Wayne Simmonds wouldn't be that bad, although his play has been sub-par (just have to hope Trotz gets him going). If we can buy low on him, I wouldn't mind Simmonds. Also of course would be happy with JGP, provided we don't spend TOO high (preferably keeping Bellows or Wilde, although I'd be more willing to part with Wilde than Bellows). I'd love to hear Isles Nation's opinion this LouCon!
