Offseason
I think Kovalenko is on the roster next year. The Mitts deal seems fair considering his closest comps and the rise in the cap but I know some people will say he'll get more which I could also see, especially if he has a good playoff run. In that case, they may have to add a year to keep the AAV lower.

Markstrom for 2nds
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>If they had cap space they would do it in a heartbeat lol.</div></div>
Say whatever you want about Georgie but he wins a lot of games because the Avs have the horses to outscore average goaltending (which, tbh, they have not always gotten from Georgie this season). Lots of people said the Avs had no chance of winning a Cup with Kuemper and they're saying the same things about Georgie (again, not entirely unwarranted given his play at times). They were wrong about Kuemper and the Avs are betting they'll be wrong about Georgiev. Some people disagree with that strategy but it's the one the Avs use so, from the Avs perspective, this isn't the kind of move they'd make even if they did have the cap space especially considering the limited assets they have.

Context matters: they didn't have a goalie so they overpaid for Kuemper

Bednar mixes up his wings all the time so it's possible they play Parise up occasionally if and when Drouin returns but I can't see Nuke only getting 3rd line minutes. Nice to have options, though.

If landeskog comes back next year you def know someone or even 2 are getting traded</div></div>
My biggest question with Landy is: when will the determination be made? To say nothing of the massive disappointment and sadness seeing Landy retire well before his time would engender, I am led to wonder: Are they going to go into FA knowing if he's coming back or is it really going to be a matter of waiting until at least pre-season?

i'm not really a huge colton fan, but that's mostly because of his attitude and such. his on-ice performance is generally good and not worth moving him.

You're going to have to explain the "attitude" thing because I've never, ever heard anything negative about Colton in that respect. While you're at it, specify what "and such" means.

Vegas Deal
I imagine Vegas would rather send Hill than Thompson; they're going to be in a major cap crunch and I doubt they'd send Barbie but maybe.
The Colton trade would have to include a 2nd; the Avs are going to be more interested in draft capital (to use in trades) than in a prospect, even a decent one.

Flyers Avs 3C Swap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>Have to remember it was Colton's RFA rights for that 37th pick as a guy who'd played primarily wing, not a signed Colton after (what looks likely to be) a career year whilst playing C and also have to factor in his being 2 years younger than Laughton. The Avs probably have to consider it though if it comes with a sweetener.</div></div>
I'd say the sweetener is the retention and I'd go for it if Colton is the odd man out.

Rather than doing all of that to get Evans, a guy that isn't a 3C, I'd try to find someone who needs to bounce back, like Wennberg or Roslovic.

Exactly my point: if he's lower on the list of guys they'd consider trading, it's going to cost a lot.

if Landeskog comes back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>zk97</b></div><div>He's the easiest guy to trade if Landeskog comes back. </div></div>
You're right: he would be easy to trade and would return a lot. He would also be the hardest to replace so it doesn't make sense for the Avs to do that. There are at least 4 players they'd trade before they'd trade Lehky which means they won't be doing that.

I still think he's no higher up the list than 4th for possible trades:
1. Manson
2. Wood
3. Colton
4. Girard

Not that the Avs would be interested in this deal but they can always trade him before the NTC kicks in. I could see them trading him if they need more cap space and they can find an acceptable replacement; this isn't it but it's not inconceivable they move him.

If the Avs do decide to trade Colton, it's likely to be for picks; a young D won't make it onto the Avs roster at this point.

If I'm the Avs, I do that to get the extra assets and a cheap, bottom-six player that can score a little. I would like one of those 2nds to be next years, though.

The big question is: will he know if he's going to give it a go before or after UFA begins? I mean, is he really going to wait to try at the start of next season or will he know before then if it's a go or not?

Personally, I think they'd be better off going for a more proven C that has at least some history of greater production, someone like Wennberg. I like Yak but I'm not sure he's capable of more and I don't think he's played much C at the pro level.

I think this is plausible assuming Mitts accepts that sort of deal (which, I know a few people will come in hot with, "NUH-UH! nO ChaNCe hE taKEs tHaT dEaL!" but there would be advantages to it from both parties and we have no way of knowing what both sides are looking for). Not sure Jones is the guy but anyone that can play 3rd pair minutes reasonably well, especially defensively, would be fine.

Summer dreaming I know its a long stretch
While I appreciate the concern for the Avs cap situation, they traded for Mitts specifically for him to fill the gap at 2C moving forward; no chance they trade him for pieces they don't really need. They may have to move other players to flesh out the roster but they plan on having Mitts in the fold for the foreseeable future.

Nothing against Wood but I would think just unloading the contract would be welcome even if they don't really want Krebs. Would free up the space to re-sign Duhaime and another bottom-six guy.

I can't see anyone touching Norris' contract considering all his injuries. The only way it becomes tradable is if he LTIRetires; just too risky.
