How about we just trade for a center? That is what we really need.

Puljujärvi is not in the NHL right now for a reason, leave it alone. And to give up a top prospect like Lindgren AND a high pick is INSANE.

Make Zibanejad captain
That's the point of all this, a guy will earn it. But I hope its not Zibanejad because there is a risk it gets to his head and his play suffers. I'd rather see a Callahan type player earn it. Natural leadership qualities and a middle of the lineup guy. That is really where NYR want to go IMO. Look at what the C did to McD. Honestly I think there is one young player that NYR want to step into a leadership role and that's Andersson. We know he is not a top 6 player but his leadership qualities are really what he brings to the table.

What would it take to add Kreider
Since he is signed for next year too and a decent price I think a 1st, top prospect and either another pick or solid prospect is what gets Gorton to start talking.
Also as an organization we lack any depth at RW so getting prospects there might make CK available this year.

Why did they trade so badly?
This is just Part 1, We still have options to trade especially Zucc. He will fetch a nice return at the draft. With Namestnikov and Zib we might not have a need for Hayes so he could go too because he is RFA. So we have 19 games for players to audition for next year.
I really liked what we did and the key now is to make sure we draft the most talented can't miss player at whatever pick we get. And the new coach that will come this summer needs to be the right man to get most of these kids into NHL players as quickly as possible. Just a matter of seeing which kids pan out.

Late-season Roster
The trade does not hurt anything short term. We are rebuilding and hopefully we lose a lot the rest of the year. And can luck out with a top 5 pick or better. That’s the goal. Then with all we traded for we have options to make trades for additional young nhl players by trading Zucc and Hayes. Gorton did a fantastic job and we are in a great position to get some highly talented players this summer.
Also highly doubtful staal is bought out. One could make the case he is in great position to be the next “C” until his contract runs out and a kid steps up to earn it. Having staal smith and shatty gives us nice leadership in the back with skjei then we trade smith once his play improves or we move smith at the draft with a pick.
We have so many options and only scratched the surface of the personnel moves

NYR post deadline and summer 2018 FA
I’m a NYR fan and these are horribly lopsided trades. If we have learned anything under the Gorton GM reign it’s that he keeps all trade chatter close to the vet. See brassard and stepan trades. I trust Gorton and think now that he has convinced Sather and Dolan that a rebuild is required we’ll see what he can do. He inherited a messy team with aging players and long contracts. Combine that with a depleted minor league system and you are really handcuffing a GM.
Hopefully he can put a solid stamp on this team for years to come.

Need to save the season
Saving the season is not the best move. This is a team that lacks elite talent especially at the forward position. We do not have players that can change the game at any moment. This draft is hyped to be the deepest in many years. This is the year we try for the lottery pick, get a young stud prospect and build a new core around. We need to trade guys before the deadline and stock pile picks and young NHL talent. Guys like Nash, Zucc, CK Miller Hayes. They need to go inorder to give young guys some ice time. Vesey and Buchnevich should be top 6 every night. Hell with the current team playing like **** I would not mind seeing Zib center them two for a couple games and see what happens.
We have a GM that seems to want some sort of a rebuild but a coach that does not give young players a very long leash.
Yes this season can be saved but that is not what we should be doing. We need to build for the future and MAYBE have a shot to get Hank a Cup before he retires.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NYR724</b></div><div>In short more that that.
McD has 1 more year at 4.7 mil so a 1st in 18 would start the conversation. Other than that NYR are in denial. They need a rebuild and this roster just needs to be blown up.
With that said since McD has 1 more year left, he does not HAVE to be moved this year.</div></div>
Agreed that he doesn't have to be moved. Just to clarify, you'd be looking for (3) 1st rounders then? I have (2) already in this and the only reason I did the 2019 is because of that additional year McD has on his current deal...combine with the conditional resign. I'll clarify in the trade because that may not have been clear.</div></div>
No I am just saying the conversation starts with the '18 1st rd pick. I have no idea what NYR would be looking for as before McD gets traded one would assume, Nash, Zucc, Hayes, Kreider (if a solid offer comes in). So who knows what NYR would have received from those deals. All I know is McD, barring a blockbuster, will not be the first to go so to predict the return is very hard but it would be big.

NYR 2017-18 -- Shattenkirk; Raanta; Stepan
Stepan has a hell of a lot of value in the NHL he will ONLY be traded for a significant return. He is not a salary dump as so many feel he is. He only gets traded because of **** contracts and really if I am Vegas I look to trade for him to be my franchise player to build a team around.

unlikely but not that unrealistic (lots of reading)
Rather just keep Girardi for the year and buy him out next year. We can't keep trading picks. We need to restock the prospect pool. I'd rather move Holden for a pick and see if we can convince Staal to waive the NMC to be a 2nd pair elsewhere. Staal still has a few good years ahead of him, he just can't be paired with guys like Holden that are basically a 4th FWD when on the ice. Staal with a halfway decent partner and he becomes his old self.

Who knows....
Yes that is what the pick is for. Girardi will be FAR cheaper to buyout next summer so the bottom 3 guys platoon. Girardi will be far more rested with sharing the bottom pairing so could pay off for us for the year. But I would be willing to move G and our 1st this year to not eat any of his cap hit should a team be open to that. If not buy him out next year as several guys will need new contracts next summer.
Forwards, gotta let Vesey and Buch have their turn to really come into what NYR hope them to be. As for King, he has 2 Stanley Cups under his belt and he will add the grit that we need. Currently without Campbell and King NYR have NO ONE that has won a Cup before. Adding that is HUGELY IMPORTANT to a roster. Then the forwards are balanced and hopefully Vesey or Buch step up and you can split CK or Zucc from top line to 2nd to balance it more.

Gotta try it
Girardi while his best years are behind him, is still solid bottom pair d-man for 1 year. If he is bought out this summer it hurts the cap but if he goes next year its a year less and less of a cap hit. The key is to sit him and play Holden so each play half the year and hopefully keep G healthy, if not we get cap relief if he goes on IR. Obviously this only works if Staal is traded for a top RH d-man
