Trading
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GenericUsername489</b></div><div>Buffalo says no immediately. How good do people think McAvoy is? You're getting a slightly worse (if McAvoy is a 10/10, Montour is at worst an 8.5) but still 1st line RD and a 2nd round pick; which is about fair. PLUS, you get a young 60+ point winger on top of that. And Buffalo is already struggling for offence so trading Reinhart would be moronic.</div></div>
Huh see I thought of it more as Reinhart for McAvoy with Montour as a sweetener. I really like Reinhart but think Montour is closer to top 4 than to pair.

They really just let you say anything on this website. This package is terrible for the Bruins, Buffalo would say yes immediately.

"This middle six winger isn't worth a number one defenseman" is some peak CF nonsense

If you think he's worth 3x7.5, you're going to say no to 3x9 (not close to 32M idk where you got that number)?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SammyT_51</b></div><div>Piss away their window? If they move marner they are still in the same window as before. Marner is like 5th most valuable Leaf. They would miss him but they would get a great package back for him (Pesce+Teravainen as example). 1M a year? Huh? He is worth 7M on 3yr deal and not more. Id give him 1M more just to have him for 8x3, which is overpayment but at least they would have him signed.. But I would not give him 2.5mil more than his value is. Not even a question. They would offer him array of reasonable contracts for every term except 4 and 5 yrs. They can tell him to sign one of those and stay a leaf or say if you want more, this and this team is offering this and this money and we will trade you there if you dont sign any of those proposed deals to these terms. All front or back loaded how much he wants. But the AAV would be at the value the Leafs want him to have.</div></div>
You think Carolina is giving up Pesce and Teravainen for Marner? In what world would they do that, maybe one and the leafs first rounder back but Carolina has no reason to pay fair value. 3x9 still gives the Leafs plenty of room. It's over market compared to other wingers but Marner had a career year and has the leafs over a barrel.

So the leafs ruin a year of their window over 1.5M? Seems like bad GMing.

He should threaten to play baseball instead, get a nice contract from Red Sox, that'll really give him leverage.

Give him less just because Backes is overpaid or whatever cap problems is stupid lol</div></div>
You gotta pay him if you're buying out UFA years. The whole point of a bridge deal is that it's under UFA market value so that he can get paid then.

So what do the leafs do then? Get screwed by signing him in season? You can't just force a player to sign a contract because you want him to.

They're going to piss away their window over 1M/year? No team is giving up assets for Marner when the leafs have to sign him (and have to before the season starts).

He has no leverage and it's a bridge deal. If anything 5.75M is probably high, if he wants 7+ he'll have to give up a UFA year.
