<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DiehardRedWingsFan58</b></div><div>I read your your team explanation, Bottom line in reality Pietrangelo will cost you $9 million, Markstrom $6 million and Hall $8 million all 3 are pipedreams and Calgary doesn't have the cap space to fit nearly $23 million of salary onto their roster. Funny how you think all 3 would sign in Calgary for cheaper then what they can get on the open market.</div></div>

I never said all three would sign. I said they were all rumors. I also said Hall was scary to sign and I wouldn't sign him for more than what I put him at. I also put what it would probably take to sign Hall in the explanation. You say you read the explanation if so, why are you still beating the same drum?

PIetrangelo asks from St Louis is apparently is 8x8, the issue is bonuses and buyout protection at the end of the deal (What Doughty got). This is something St Louis doesn't want to give. Its also believed that St Louis and Pietrangelo are going to take another run at a deal before free agency opens. Bottom line, he may get 8, 9 or 10 a year. You or I don't know until its done. There are also examples of players taking less money to allow a team to be competitive (Crosby, yes a home town discount) or play on certain teams (Ryan in Calgary he was offered more elsewhere). Its possible he signs in Calgary, very unlikely but possible. I also don't see him signing for a rebuilding team unless he is content to just cash in, which if that's the case do you really want that type of player? I think he is likely going to a team that he can get paid market value or close to, and a contender (St Louis, Vegas) or a team close to a solid run (Calgary, Vancouver, Philly, etc) if cap space allows it.

As for Markstrom, the goalie market is flooded this season, so there are lots of options and prices may change. I think Calgary looks for an upgrade, it may or may not be Markstrom. Lehner is apparently asking 5x5, so Markstrom may not get 6x6. Both are very close stat wise, with Lehner being a year younger, so I am unsure Markstrom gets 6 m a year if Lehner signs for 5. First guy to sign sets the market.
Not everyone's driving motivator is money. Its a factor but not the sole driver. Signing a UFA is a better option as Calgary does not give up any futures rather than, say trading for Kuemper or Murray.

As for it being a pipedream, have teams ever shed cap to make signings happen? Yes. Could Calgary? Yes. Is it it possible to sign all three? Yes. Will it be easy? No.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>flamesfan</b></div><div>That would be horrible for Calgary dumba is too 4 at best and Johnny is an elite players</div></div>

I agree Johnny is an elite player. That's why I said Dumba plus Greenway plus a sweetner (prospect , pick or both). The main point was I don't see Monahan getting traded like the original proposal, unless a strong Centre is coming back or Tre has a trade for one.

Johnny is a great player. He will get you to the playoffs by getting points and wins. I just don't think his game is suited to playoff hockey which is a heavy game. He either needs to change that aspect of his game, or play or a different style of team (Tampa). His game is not to play the small forward game Theo did. I think Johnny does need to go in on the D man and push him or lean on him to wear him down. I didn't see that against either the Jets or Dallas. Additionally, if any of the other CGY rumors happen (ie, Markstrom, Murray, etc) Calgary will need to create cap space. Other than Lucic (who has limited value), how do you see CGY doing it? You have a reduced schedule this coming season and with 16.9 m is cap space. They need a goalie, four forward positions and three d positions. That's just over 2 m a player and a bit of cap space to spare. Mangiapane is getting paid this time. You need a stronger goalie so that going to be 3-6 m, to help share the work load with Rittich. When you start looking at the Cap numbers someone needs to go out so they can start filling holes. Johnny has the best value to give GCY the best return. At this time the return is unknown. We are likely losing Hamonic so we need a more physical D-man Dumba fits that need. Greenway is a big which CGY also needs some more of. If Johnny moves on, scoring will need to be more by committee moving forwards. You are banking Mangiapane and Dube keep progressing.

Perhaps Johnny stays, so be, it he is still a great player and Tre uses UFA's to fill those holes with value deals. AT this point only Tre knows.
