Only 82mil and getting impact picks now
I think you're looking at this the wrong way. All of Vegas' core is in their prime. They are trying to WIN NOW, before MAF gives out. They can't afford to lose top 6 guys if they aren't getting a competent roster player or filling a need in return

Lets Go Blues
Not sure I like any of this. I see TONS of Blues teams on ArmchairGM trying to get the boys back together..... but guess what? THE BOYS NEVER WON A CUP! THIS TEAM DID! Trading away all of our good young cheap players that are the glue of our CUP WINNING team to bring back older guys just for early 2010s nostalgia is dumb.
On to actual opinions:
PHI never does that deal. They have a future goalie in Carter Hart, and aren't gonna take on Allen's cap hit for free
NJ deal doesn't seem good enough. Schenn expires at the same time as Hall, so it still carries the same risk that he may leave for nothing. On top of that Schenn is worse, so it is less valuable in an all in "go for it" scenario. So the only value in return for an MVP is Edmundsson what will likely be a very low 1st. Not good enough.
VGK Deal: why? Fabbri and Sanford are both better than Reaves, and we can get them both combined for less than Reaves' deal. trading up from 2nds to 3rds isn't enough when we are losing core middle 6 players. We are a contending team, we value players higher than picks
Free agent signings:
RFAs: Why all of these 1 year deals? Then we have to deal with it again next season when we have less space and more important FAs to sign (Petro/Dunn)
UFAs: Elliot is WASHED. Let him go. I'd be ok with bringing back Maroon at that price, but i think some team might overpay him this summer.

its a high cost given Smiths consistency playing with Marchessault in FLA and VGK but if you're taking a cap dump it helps make it barable .</div></div>
I like it. With all of the forward upgrades Vegas has made i think the loss of Smith is bearable, especially as Tuch/Glass continue to improve. Only problem would be just losing Krug next offseason for nothing. Vegas is super tight on the cap, and Krug will probably want a raise. Don't think VGK would pay more than $7M ish

What Every Team Should Do - Keeping The Champs Together
I think most of the RFA deals will be shorter, we will have more cap available in 2-3 years. Binnington especially, Armstrong might be a bit gunshy to commit to that long, especially with how recently we were burned by Allen forgetting how to hockey. If anything, I could see 3-5 years around $5mil. Leaves him available for one more big contract around 29-30.

Seems like a 2nd is a but much for Namestikov. Hovering around 30-40 points. He would probably do better if EDM stuck him on McJesus/Draisaitl's wing, but they aren't gonna overpay based on speculation

I'd like to see how Fabbri bounces back after having his first healthy offseason in 2 whole years. I think we are losing Eddy to Seattle anyways at this point, no way we protect him over 27/55/29

Don't think that PHI wants to take Allen's contract. Carter Hart is their future goalie. I personally think Fabbri>Blais, switch them.
All the FA signings leave no room when we need to sign Petro/Schenn/Dunn next offseason.
Also Pat Maroon and Ferland are kinda the same player, but Ferland is younger and better, I'd only sign him (but I do love my hometown hero).

Might need to pay slightly more to dump the Clarkson deal, OTT has the cap space and they know Vegas needs it.
No way WPG takes Haula, they are in a big enough cap crunch as it is, I can't see them paying to make it worse

Retooling to Contend
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JVince11</b></div><div>I haven't heard much from a Red Wings perspective on what they believe the plan is under Stevie Y. I've heard some say he would want to tear them down and collect draft picks because they are against the cap already and a bottom team. I've heard others say that only like Larkin is off limits and that AA will price himself out.</div></div>
There really isn't much to tear down at this point. Its just good young guys and old guys with terrible contracts. If you trade the young guys in order to dump the contracts, you have nothing left (except cap space)
Yzerman is smart, and was patient in putting Tampa together. They can spend 2-3 (maybe 4) years waiting out most of their bad contracts, continuing to let the young guys develop and collect picks, then the core will hit their primes (26-28) right as Detroit's cap space explodes and they can grab some premium FA's and make a real comeback.
Only real question mark for them atm is in goal. No bluechip prospects in net as far as I know. I could see them going hard after Holtby, but not sure how that fits into their timeline.

No chance you get Athanasiou for the last pick in the 1st and a 3rd. Just had his best year, 30 goals, and only getting better. He is a big part of DET's new young core.

Makes sense. I would think that Ovi/Backstrom don't wanna leave and will gracefully age out, Backstrom stays the same and Ovi drops to about $7-8mil.

Keep Ehlers FFS
Is this really the time to give Laine his mega deal? Coming off of his worst season by far. Might as well get him on a bridge deal for 2-3 years if you are gonna end up paying him $8mil plus anyways.
This also leaves no room for Josh Morrissey's deal next year. Jets are super screwed if he's gone. Smarter to save the Tyler Meyers money for him imo.

Why would jets even move him tho? I'd say Ehlers is the worst of the 3 young wingers. Connor is the best imo, not as good as peak laine, but way more consistent.
If he wanted out or had to be moved or something, I could see him getting an elite prospect, 1st/2nd, and a roster player

Not super relevant here, but what do you think the next deals for Holtby/Backstrom/Ovi are gonna be? Can the Caps afford to keep Holtby next season? Does he want to leave? I can't see him taking a discount on his last big deal in his prime.
