I don't mind the player as a fit on our team but the contract is horrendous. Pretty much all of our free cap space this year on him.

Not saying it's a bad move of Colorado, who had huge needs at center, just that cheap depth players became worth more than expensive top 6 talent in the last 2 weeks.</div></div>
Fully expect that he will be 3C for us. Great value for a 2nd rounder.

Colorado essentially turns Newhook into Colton while also getting a 1st and a prospect.
Nice couple of moves for MacFarland.

Value is fine, but I really feel like this might be a trade Colorado ends up regretting. Newhook has a lot of good qualities and could easily be a breakout candidate.

I'm torn of hoping the health stuff works out and just go 7x7m hoping we save 2m a year compared to what we may have to sign him for in 3 years if he meets the potential he has then giving him 8x9m
Also I'd trade G in a flash to keep Toews here. Girard has had a long rope with me and reached the end of it these last two years.</div></div>
G had a great second half of the year, made some pretty big changes to his game, and it took well. I think we’re going to see him improve next season, but I get your sentiment, I was pretty exhausted with him. I expect the Avs to keep everyone, though.

(NSH/COL) - Johansen for Galchenyuk
I really want Johansen as our 2C but would not have dared hope for this deal. What a win; and we likely get to keep Toews beyond this year too..
RyJo centering a line of Newhook and Rantanen will be pretty effective as a 2nd line.
3rd line center can now be addressed in free agency fairly cheaply.

What a steal for Colorado. Getting a good middle 6 center on a great contract for nothing. Not sure what Nashville is doing here, you'd think Johansen would have value at 50% retained

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CEO</b></div><div>What happened to his team-first mentality?
Though, for real, he is an amazing player. But not McDavid</div></div>
Sorry but some of you guys don't have a clue what a good deal looks like for a player of this quality, with a rising cap...
Mackinnon could have easily got 14+ million from multiple teams. Taking 1.50-2m off his market value is a huge hometown discount. He easily left 12-16 million on the table over the course of this deal, compared to what he could have gotten.
You need to compare cap hit percentage, not just face value...
Otherwise you might as well say " 1 million dollars for a house?!?!? My Grandma bought her house for $50,000!"
Its all relative.
Cap hit percentages of star players when they signed:
Ovechkin - 18.96%
Crosby - 17.30%
Mcdavid - 16.67%
Malkin - 15.34%
Mackinnon - 15.27%
Toews/Kane - 15.22%
Mcdavid today at the same cap % would have a cap hit of $13,752,750

(NYR/COL) - Georgiev for 2x 3rd, 1x 5th
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>McRanteskog</b></div><div>Two things most people here are overlooking:
1) those picks are closer to a 4th, 4th and 6th
2) bringing in Georgiev frees up at least 4mil+ in cap space (vs signing Kuemper at like 6-6.5mil) which can be used to retain a Kadri or Burakovsky (or similar type player)</div></div>
He got fleeced. No one is overlooking anything. It's okay. He usually does great work. But this time he did not.
