You just don't throw that kind of term to a guy with that much injury history. It’s not like they’re getting him on a steal of a cap hit either.

What a terrible contract. He's a "meh" 4th line player with a high finishing rate. 2.5 Million is going to be peanuts by the end of this contract, but wild he got the term.

Shouldn't sign bottom 6 players to long term deals.

FWIW, I like the fit between Colorado and Wood. He is fast and physical. Good scoring upside. His injury history is a little worrisome, and committing 6 years to a bottom 6er that has never worn your jersey is certainly a decision. I think it has the potential to grow into a pretty darn good deal, but for now it's just meh

The fact that he has over 20 points is a miracle. The guy is a walking penalty. Colorado is not going to like that contract by the end of October

What a terrible contract, on his best days he's a 3rd line winger and that is few and far inbetween. One of the worst signings of the day for sure.

He was the worst forward on a good Devils team last year and is still dealing with that hip injury he suffered in 2022

6 years for him is extremely risky and 2.5M AAV is a little steep

Good for Miles to get that contract but yikes for Colorado

I mean I know the caps gonna go up, but yikes. Good for Miles, good for NJ for letting him go, and good luck to Colorado to that contract... they'll need it.

I don't mind the player as a fit on our team but the contract is horrendous. Pretty much all of our free cap space this year on him.

Big, fast, physical, can shoot

Produces offense mostly on shot volume. Is heavy on forecheck. Was the fastest straight-line skater on Devils for years. Is great at stretching the ice. Plays physical, can play role of being a pest, fights if needed, plays in dirty areas. At his worst, he can take a few too many bad penalties and slump due to fewer chances. At his best, can take over any shift.

He had a major hip injury that required surgery in October 2021 and he sat out 2021-22 (he came back at end of season for a few games). They said it would take six months to recover, probably another year to fully get his legs back. In 2022-23, he started off slow. Didn’t seem to have that top gear. But we started to see the usually Wood at end of year and in playoffs a bit.

(Also, a really intelligent guy…got into Brown and Princeton…and often is nominated as team rep on labor issues and other matters).

I thought he would have been someone for a 1-year ‘prove it’ deal…then cash in long term next summer. But at $2.5m it is good value for Avs.

Great candidate for a rebound. Expect 15-20 goals and a physical mixer-upper in bottom-six.

Good signing
