“Only EK and a cooked first rounder”
Yes, moving those picks for a Norris winning, 100 point defenseman who has rediscovered every inch of his game and would thrive in our system.
I wouldn’t go as far as to describe Zadina as “cooked” he actually is coming off of a injury riddled year playing only 30 games, for any player in the league that’s going to be a tough obstacle to produce off numerous injuries in the same season at that rate.
Prior to this past season, he’s coming off a near 30 point season in 74 games posting 10g and 14a playing buried bottom 6 minutes and being surrounded by all the wrong line mates for him to at least turn his ship around in his career.
As for the goalie situation, that’s fine that can be solved by having the Dell contract being 2 ways and Carter can be sent down to the minors and his salary will stay the same

By no means is Poulin washed up, he’s just had a lengthy development process where he needs time and with a team like San Jose they’ll give him that time and they could certainly turn his career around. You’re wrong.

Yea my mistake, I’d still be in on it to take the player on that contract for free though.
Also, I can’t see it costing much more then what I have hear unless you twinkle around the retention numbers. And $2m retained for a third seems reasonable, if anything you throw in a 4th and a 5th and I see it being reasonable. $2m itself is equal to a 4th liner’s salary and you are taking back 2 picks for free.

This team will be a seller at the deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pensfan21</b></div><div>It's not easy to move Petry at all, but it's not impossible. Need to get creative to move bad contracts. Defense isn't good enough to win a cup. It was a disaster last year, even when fully healthy, and I think it will take move than swapping Dumo for Graves, even though I like the Graves signing as a start. I just cannot look at this team as is and see it as a playoff team, much less a cup contender. Our third line and bottom 6 is a real problem as is. If Crosby Malkin or Letang get hurt or don't completely carry the team there is no one to step up and produce offense. Bottom 6 as is produces no offense and our defense doesn't produce any except Letang. Considering how much better the east got too I just don't see the team as is getting more than 75-80 points. That's where Karlsson would help. At this point if were going to go all in trade a 1st for him. I was fully onboard for keeping the 1st, making small bets on younger players/unqualified UFA's and seeing what happens. But we gave out big contracts in FA. We already decided to go all in so that's why I'd get Karlsson. We desperately need more offense.</div></div>
Completely agree, without at least 2 more finishing touches to either top top 4d or the bottom 6, this team is dust. It’s simple. It’s time to start seeing it that way from a fan perspective. The metro is stacked. The current roster we have right now is likely beaten out by 3 other teams in that top 3 race. Hell, then you look at the wild card teams that are a possibility, and it becomes even MORE of a limbo.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pens1991</b></div><div>How is it their own fault though... why do people on this website think it's NHL24 create a team. The penguins could call Matt Duchene and say "Hey we'll give you 1X5" and he could simply say no and take the Dallas offer because that's what he wants lol.
Someone like Bertuzzi wasn't realistic in the slightest unless they didn't trade for Reilly Smith and i'd say basically the entire league was surprised he didn't stay in Boston after they specifically moved hall to make space for him.
I have a feeling Florida beat everyone to Erod with the term. $3M AAV is perfectly fine, but I bet other teams were offering 1-3 year deals and florida came in at 4. That's most likely a leading factor as to why the Pens landing Graves, probably beat teams offering 4 year deals with a 6 year deal. If i'm someone like Erod i'm going to take a term deal and lock up my money. I would've definitely loved having him.
3C FA market was really crap this year. I want no part of Max Domi at 3C so pass that. Glass/Jost/McLeod all stayed with their same teams.
ROR choose to go to a rebuilding Nashville over staying in Toronto so I'm not sure what that says... probably just looking for Term/Money. Comphere got overpaid in Detroit.
After that it's pretty vacant.... Geekie would've been a nice land but maybe the pens didn't look.
I felt going into the offseason that 3C was either sticking to Granlund or they were going to have to make a trade for someone.</div></div>
You’re absolutely right, there really was a dry market for depth centers this year that fit our outlook and plan of what we are going for. As you said, it seems more and more evident Granlund stays and we build around him on that 3rd line. Maybe we go with a plan of attack Dubas has been headlining with, that being low risk high reward type deals or signings. Smith being the perfect example, take advantage of a cap strapped team and get a productive Stanley cup winger for just a third rounder. Ideally we pay a similar price for a serviceable finisher in the bottom 6 and fit said winger under the cap. I would absolutely feel more comfortable heading towards the season if a move like that was to be done. I would hope it’s not just we go and get EK and dump a salary or 2 and then fill the roster with what we have. I think it’s almost certain that we NEED another above average addition, maybe even 2 to our bottom 6, specifically being that 3rd line.

Would’ve liked him or Geekie rather than this option. But I guess this goes into winning in the playoffs, crucial depth veteran presences that can be relied on, and playing hockey in the metro you need guys like Eller. Not a terrible signing but not the best one he could’ve done. I’ll take it though.

Shouldn’t not be in the top 6.</div></div>
That money can easily be spent on another guy at 3C then Compher but he’s the best option on the market right now, hence why I made that signing.
Chad can play night after night on the third pair, he’s serviceable and again, plays on a cheap contract and can be replaced.

I mean Jarry was bad last year, but the D was arguably even worse. Not much he can do with guys wide open in front of him. Graves signing is good and will help a ton. Karlsson if we get him will help the transition game significantly. If we can do that plus rebuild 3rd line I'm feeling good.</div></div>

Jarry contract is horrific, but also I don't think Dubas had much of a choice. Literally every other goalie was gone. This is 100% not ideal at all, but I would still rather Jarry at 5 mil then having to trade a 1st for another goalie.</div></div>
Nailed it. I mean, what were the better options really? Trading valuable assets for a goalie of the SAME CALIBER or trading a haul for Hellebuyck/Gibson which just isn’t in the game plan for the future of the team. I don’t like the contract but I don’t hate it. I think Dubas is getting way too much scrutiny on this move, I don’t think there were much better options he could’ve went with…

Number one, Pickering won’t be touched. Number two, we aren’t going to pay the Sharks to take Granlund, if they take him back then that’s going to tick off less retention on Karlsson so that’s a lose-lose scenario for both sides.
Kahkonen and Petry could very well be involved and if that’s the case then that obviously changes a lot of aspects on this trade especially for the third team that comes in to shed salary.
