Reasonable in what way? These Karlsson trade packages some ACGMs are doing are just silly.. Petry and Granlund plus picks/prospects AND 3.5 retained by SJ…
I think this is reasonable, sending out Granlund is the last major piece Dubas needs to play.
Moving him out frees up space under the cap for maybe one more bottom six player if he wants or he can hold that cap space for the trade deadline.
Granlund had over 40 points last year. He just didn’t fit in a system he was traded to, that doesn’t mean he’s not a serviceable player, he has talent in the right spot. A second round pick is what he was acquired for so that should be equally enough to send him out.
I think that’s pretty reasonable.
Hmmm... At best, Chicago doesn't need Granlund, at all. We have enough vets now (in fact, a surplus IMO) and are above the floor. Frankly, any Hawks' interest prior to the buyout window closing was not in what Granlund could bring to team (IMO, he's a guy who's no longer good enough to play on the 2nd line, and can't play on the 3rd), it was for whatever futures accompanied him in trade. Two years of a $5mm cap hit should merit some pretty good futures, for the Hawks to eat that hit. I had hoped the Hawks would capture those futures and buy him out. (As we did with Bailey.)
But with that buyout window having closed now, the futures have to be better than they would have been then. Now, Granlund would have to be on the roster and would block some of the kids from the playing time to grow and demonstrate how good THEY can be.
So, in essence... Granlund not only has no value for us now at a cap hit of $5mm AAV, he has a negative value. Without the opportunity to buy him out, a BETTER package of futures than before must now accompany his dump to us. I doubt PIT can/would do this. So, I think you might as well count the Hawks out now as a cap dump for him.
