Best Center Option To Get For The Rangers
Id love to try and take a stab at Roope Hintz. Maybe Ryan Johansen in exchange for big money going back? Domi I think could be had and would probably be exactly the kind of player David Quinn would love, whether that is for better or worse.
Id rather see one more year of Mika--Strome--Chytil being the top 9 centers, if it means the left side D is reimagined with the money/assets we have. I think when our offense was rolling our D was the bigger issue.

(TOR/PIT) - Kapanen, Åberg, Lindgren for 2020 1st, Rodrigues, Hållander, Warsofsky
The Leafs may have won this trade, and that’s great and all, but was it worth sacrificing their morals? Stealing from a senile old man... where does it end? Shame on Dubas and RIP Pit fans.

A 30 pt in 61 games last year and 50 pts + this year RD with RFA status will definitely get you a top 6 forward with some term thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

I guess with Stepan going off a cliff, and DeAngelo taking off, time to start calling that trade an unequivocal win for the Rangers ehh?

I feel like a lot of the people saying the Sens won this trade haven't watched Names play recently or think of him with the Lightning, with Stamkos and Kucherov as linemates...
Names has been consistently bad for the Rangers ever since they got him. Plugging him into the 2nd line of the Sens might get him a couple more points, but any GM would be a fool to ignore his recent history. If he goes to a contender, he'll be bottom 6 again and produce nothing, while being ok on the defensive side of the puck.
Honestly, I'm surprised the Rangers didn't have to give away an incentive pick to be rid of Names. For that reason alone, the Rangers won this trade.

<strong>"Top 6"</strong> ... What exactly do you mean by this?
He's got 31 points in his last 80 games ... he's an average defender at best ... and he's making over $3,000,000.
If anything ... Ottawa gave up 2 assets for a negative value cap-dump.

high salary lack of production.
Hard to say this is a win at this point for either team.
He has to produce in order to really judge this.
Either way, I'm surprised Ottawa was willing to spend real money on a player.

Looks good for Sens at first but a 4th for a UFA that's probably not gonna sign after the season... I don't see a point in this. Rangers get cap space and 4th, extra body was to keep contract spots even. Team that might be last trades pick for rental in October... ok guess i just don't get it

2019-20
Few tweaks:
1. Lias as 3C- centering Names and Strome...Krav starts year in Hartford- not a punishment for him- but allows NYR to "showcase" Names and Strome as 3rd line players so hopefully one or both can be traded by mid season....best case- one or both bring back good value (once the trade market opens up)...worst case- they both tank- in which case waive one of them to make room for Krav at/around Christmas
2. 4C- the "winner" of Howden vs McKegg. If Howden- then he centers Lemieux and Fast- with McKegg as 13F. If McKegg- then he centers the same with Nieves as 13F and Howden starting in Hartford- to get big minutes playing with Krav.
3. Rykov starts in Hartford and Lindgren starts as 7D....but this is only desireable if Lindgren is given a chance in spelling Hajek and Staal to the point where he is playing in about 1/2 the games...any less than that and he is better off playing big minutes in Hartford with Smith in NY watching games from press box.
4. Buch starts on 1st line...Kakko to 2nd

New York Rangers signed Brendan Lemieux (1 Year / $925,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brian2016</b></div><div>I think they should strongly consider a cap on the percentage of the cap that a player can make. For example, if the upper limit of the cap is $81.5M, the most a UFA/RFA can sign for would be 15% of the cap ($12.225M AAV). This would prevent runaway salaries for elite players and ensure that players like Lemieux are paid commensurate w/ their contributions. They've already taken many steps to spur competitive balance and fair cap structures by capping term of contract at 8 years. Buyout clause also helps, as does other aspects of the CBA.</div></div>
I think you should strongly consider reading the CBA.

Smith will get get sent down to the AHL; as should McKegg. That will give the Rangers another 1.7M or so. They'll have the space to sign DeAngelo, but I do think they should move Namestnikov.

I figure it makes everyone happy:
Edmonton gets a goalie that may be able to take the starting spot
NY gets a young guy who is basically boom or bust and open up a spot for Shesterkin
Puljujarvi gets a fresh start in NY, which has a relatively large Finnish community (and Kakko)
Georgiev gets a chance at a starting role, which he probably wouldn't in NY with Hank and Shesterkin above him
