Although very interesting, doesn't make sense for either team. MTL isn't really in win-now mode like VAN.

Pettersson
As a Canucks fan, I love watching other Canucks fans on here absolutely LOSE their crap over the thought Petey may request out. He did essentially say he wants to see how the team is doing before he signs, and I think we need to give him more credit; he isn't stupid. If I was a player of his calibre on the Canucks, and watched the absolute tire fire that has been the asset management and mediocrity of the Canucks, I may not want to stay. And I'm from BC.
Ultimately, I think he does stay, but people need to prepare themselves for a reality where he doesn't. He wants to win - it will take more than a good winger to satisfy him. He isn't stupid. If he leaves, we should feel betrayed by the team, not Petey. Him leaving would be him making the decision we all should have as fans like 2-3 years ago...
Anyways, it is equally funny to watch fans on here make proposals for him that don't really include anything tangible. Some first round picks that would be 15-20 and a decent proposect of young player likely won't get it done. You will have competition. For CBJ if the offer doesn't include one of Johnson/Fantilli, I don't see the Canucks doing it.
If you're answer is, 'no! Those guys could be 1Cs!' Exactly. You're accelerating your timeline to grab and elite 1C who has shown he can put up 100 points and get Selke votes. You have to give to get, even in this fantasy play ground.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Reason</b></div><div>It's an interesting proposal, ill give you that. Vancouver would get two players whos age fits with their core, but neither of those pieces are likely to ever be impact players. On a contending team Fabbro is probably a 3rd pair RD and Glass is probably a 3rd liner. I'm not sure I make the trade if I am Vancouver though, as the team already has to many bottom 6 forwards and what they really need going forward if they want to be contenders is impact players coming in on ECL's, and you only really get those if you draft them. With Vancouver not being a sure fire playoff bet, that pick could be a mid first rounder and a future impact player.
I'm also not sure NASH makes the trade. The NYI couldn't give away Beau and im sure the Canucks were shopping him with the other two, so he likely doesn't have positive value without retention.</div></div>
I'm intrigued by Glass and his last couple seasons within the Nashville organization. I don't know his ceiling and being a top pick was a long time ago but he'd certainly have no excuses playing with JT and Boeser.
I consider this year a gap year in Van unless they pull a big time RHD to play with Hughes while pushing Cole down to bottom pair. After this season, there are multiple young guys who might take a big step who could have an impact (on a cheap $) like you mentioned.

If cap increases to 87M
Love the hold Jebus out of this team. This team goes on a massive cup run!!
Garland's contract has more value the closer it gets to ending it. Imagine that the Canucks retain 1million for the remaining 2 years vs 2023/24 for 3 years. Big difference from the Canucks standpoint. And less risk for the trading team. We could get something in return that helps the team short or long term.
Hronek - gets 1 more 1million
Tanev - less 500 000
Toews - less 1 million, and if you can negotiate less term that would be great. I would also say Canucks LD depth and prospect pool is deep and strong so this move might hurt that.
DONT - need to bring in Seeler, save roughly 1million depending on who else you bring in. Instead Woo, Johansson or McWard, or just Juulsen who is on the scratch list.
Garland - retain 1 million and Garland's contract looks way better and fits with most teams better, Canucks receive ARZ 3rd round 2024 instead of giving away a pick.
You stay under the cap.

Ideal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Reason</b></div><div>I'm still a bit worried about that defense, still no top pairing RD and 3rd pair is sub NHL talent. Personally I would rather spend the money given to Reinhart and try and bring back Tanev for a couple of seasons, or see if something can be worked out for Pesce assuming he makes it to UFA. That way Soucy can slide to the 3rd pair and it would give the team a contender defense.</div></div>
My original plan was to trade Soucy and sign Tanev for 1-2 years so that would also work. The plan is to use them as a stopgap until Willander proves to be ready (he would likely join for last few games and playoffs, before becoming a regular the year after)

IF Vancouver had to trade EP
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Reason</b></div><div>Of course that's the question, and I think it depends on the team. A team like Columbus that wants to compete now and is really only a 1C away from being a good bet to make the playoffs probably seriously considers it. From a value perspective I think it's pretty solid for Columbus. As said earlier the hope is for Fantilli to become a franchise center, EP is already one so unless Fantilli becomes a top 3 center in the league it's highly unlikely Columbus loses this trade as many already have EP as a top 5 center, at worst he's a top 10, in my opinion it's Vancouver taking the risk in this deal. Maybe DAL with johnson to push them forward.
I don't think ANA, CHI or MTL are quite there yet, NJD are already well positioned at C and a sure bet to make the playoffs, SEA may be an option.</div></div>
Columbus i think is going to be more patient. Fantilli has a higher ceiling than Petty and Jarmo is willing to wait. Fantilli's timeline fits well into the timeline for the rest of our prospects to so i don't think the jackets would bite. I'm trying to think of another team with a young C that would be willing to make this move and the only one i can come up with would be SEA maybe with Bernie but I'm not even sure there.

But You think he's only going to take 11.25M? Lol</div></div>
11.25M would be the 4th highest paid C and the joint 6th highest paid player league wide. Top 5 C getting top 5 money

[The following comment has been reposted from the Vancouver side of this trade]
I don’t think there’s any way either Vancouver or Minnesota consider this.
On the Vancouver side, they’re giving up the two better players (including Kuzmenko, who specifically chose to sign with Vancouver over anyone else) and receiving two long-term contracts. They’re betting on Boldy developing, but if he plateaus, they’re so screwed.
Minnesota prefers the players with term. The Parise and Suter buyouts have left them crunched, and Petterson’s upcoming contract extension would break their bank.
Overall, it’s not the worst idea I’ve ever seen, but it’s still not going to happen.

The depth isn't all that good though, solid on the wings but still weak down the middle, maybe trying Boeser at center like someone else on here suggested wouldn't be the worst move.
That defense is still pretty weak but is improved over last year.
If they can stay healthy I could see Van in the hunt for the playoffs, not a lock to make it but should be in the hunt at least.

Why would we worry any less about Martin getting claimed off waivers than DeSmith? If anything I’d say it’s more likely Martin does get claimed than DeSmith just due to cap hits of the goalies.

A swap of players that have no value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Reason</b></div><div>Normally I would agree with you. Lots of talk on Vancouver sports radio over the last few months where hosts figure he will have value at the TDL due to little money owed, retention and that he is a large physical RD. The reason I think they should try and move him is that this team has chosen to try and make the playoffs next season, if you pick a path I think you have to stick with it and they currently don't have a roster that will be overall competitive for the playoffs. If you can trade Myers and replace that cap with a 3C (which they don't have) and a couple of bottom pair RD's, without it costing you any significant assets then I think you make it.</div></div>
fair point. i def agree that if the canucks hang onto myers till the deadline they could probably fetch something like a 2nd for him at half retained, maybe more if he has a good year. but i gotta say the canucks refusal to just rebuild or hell even retool is frustrating to watch even as a leafs fan lol, although i guess they're trying to keep petersson happy?
but you are totally right, when you pick a path you gotta commit. canucks have been spinning tires for too long now

Irwin or Juulsen will have to start the season as the 3rd RHD because Bear will be out until at least December while he recovers from shoulder surgery. Don't know if he'll sign for that. If he hadn't been injured at the World Championship he wouild probably be looking for $2.5 to $3 million per year.
I like the Pens deal and might even include Spencer if the Pens want a 3rd goalie that they can move to the minors.
The Canucks might like little more term in the Dumba deal.
For the most part this doesn't seem too bad.
