A New Defense for Playoffs

Weird, all the best teams love analytics</div></div>
All the best <em><em><strong>Regular Season teams</strong></em></em> love analytics, now how many conference finalists over the last 5 years were analytic guys? 7 out of 20 so not even half! Then you have to take into account Vegas and Tampa had multiple appearances. So the real answer is 5 out of 15 or 1/3 of conference finalists only 2 made it to the Cup finals Tampa (twice) and Vegas (in 2018). Something tells me there is more to hockey success than relying on analytics alone.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AFox23</b></div><div>Why don't you try explaining them to me.
Who collects the raw data from games? Is it Instat? Do they now have people at games or is it automated? Does anyone check the data? Does the collector know how the models are built? How do different services arrive at different figures for same games/players? Why do players who fall out of NHL fall out of their models? If players are being measured on percentile, that seems to be relevant. Why don't they release passing statistics? (some data collection groups track them and there is a reason they don't release to media clients). How come all the other bells and whistles like coverage areas and reach aren't shared with media clients? Why are people even using per-60 stats when they know full well, no two players are going to see the same types of minutes making them statistically incomparable?</div></div>
It is useless to argue with Jared as he thinks analytics are the be all end all of player evaluation. There is a reason Dubas has not gotten a team with 4 superstar forwards and analytic gems out of the 1st round. Analytics are a tool and like many other tools on their own they are useless but when used CORRECTLY can be useful. Unlike how Jared uses them just to say players he doesn't like are bad. Chiarot is not an analytical dream and may not be a puck moving D man but he blocks shots, clears the front of the net, punishes players trying to enter his end of the ice with the puck, and is a great penalty killer. When paired with a puck moving D like Kulak or Romanov, he is very effective and the pairing thrives. The issues arise when he is paired with another less mobile D man like Savard as both are positional players instead of strong skaters.

Chiarot and Risto my god you must hate analytics</div></div>
Yup, I do. They are mostly worthless. And can confuse player values. Most people have no idea what they are looking at with those charts. And have no idea how loose collection is and how the models are overwhelmed with every sort of bias just so they can 'fit' their data into their perceptions.
All of these 'chartmakers' are just clickbait social media accounts.

I expect a trade to made eventually, but Hughes has made it pretty clear that they aren't going to just trade him for his sake. If they need time to remind people that Petry is in fact a quality top pair D-man, then so be it.

Muzzin ltir until playoffs
Pretty weak offers.
Braun, with retention will get a 2nd from somebody (the TOR 3rd is about 85th overall, which is poor)
Dermott has weak value (and not a weakness in CBJ), and Domi at 50% retention is worth more than a late round 1st, a minimal player and they throw in a 4th?
As far as Chychrun? Holl (who has unexpectedly been good in TOR, but at 28 yrs old and just 2-3 NHL seasons, does he play well somewhere else? Hes been the right player in the right place IMO, but I dont see him as a good 2RD elsewhere) but he isn;t bad, but hes not good this year, Liljegren still cant nail down an NHL position in his third pro season and has been unable to unseat the struggling Holl or even get 3rd pairing time and while hes still young and could make it, his value isn;t as high for a team about to choose almost 12 times in the next 2 drafts first and second round. So its Robertson, a 1st and some nice pieces, which seems weak in comparison to what some of the other rumoured offers
Not horrendous, but I think all those teams get better offers elsewhere

Chiarot to Toronto most likely involves Niemela

Habs could get 1st + 3rd for chiarot, we don't want holl and a 5th.
That doesn't get you close to miller. Try switching 2nd for niemela and add knies.
Oilers can't take up that much cap.
Arizona doesn't do that trade in a million years, they're just trading a top 3 pick.
Kate seems like the only fair trade here.

MTL swap idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>And you could say the same about Drouin and Lehkonen to Pittsburgh lol. And as I’ve said in the past, the only reason Montreal would trade for Zucker is if it’s part of a 3 way that they are shipping Zucker to a contender and retaining for a positive net value. But in this specific scenario giving value of players only. The value of the pens players > the value of the Habs players.</div></div>
Montreal is the seller in this scenario. You have to assume the Penguins are the buyers. IF the Penguins were buying these players from Montreal, who adds?
I'm simply answering the question which was asked.
If you want to say that you see no reason for Pittsburgh to make that trade, that's a perfectly valid stance and an entirely different discussion.
Saying Montreal adds, is indeed answering the question posed, but under the wrong assumptions. Calling everyone delusional for addressing the actual topic is hardly an appropriate response.

Drouin =Zucker (Same salary, same term, same slump, same heath issues)
Kapanen is under control for more years but isn't worth his next qualifying offer as a bottom 6. Lehkonen would be way more usefull for the playoffs but could go ufa in 2023.</div></div>
Drouin is not equal to Zucker <strong>for Montreal</strong> though. There's no reason for them to move one trade bait for another <strong>unless</strong> the one they are getting has <strong>more</strong> trade value. By declaring Zucker and Drouin equal, you remove any possible incentive for Montreal to consider making that exchange.
