Absolutely. Bunting will want around 5m next year and that’s too much for me. The difference between the 2 is Buch is vastly outperforming his contract which would allow us to run 3 deep lines when necessary. Dubas can find more bargain bin types, I’ve never been worried about that.

Next season
I think Samsonov signs a QO for next season and then a 2 year bridge deal around 3M after that. I would also like to see Timmins sign a 2-year deal similar to Sandin and Liljegren’s cap hit.

Suppose it'd depend very much on how he returns from this injury, but I mean we'd only have him for a few months so maybe the injury thing isn't as prominent as if we were taking him on long term?
Definitely a good point and one I'm on the fence with as well.</div></div>
Bertuzzi’s value is near as low as it’s ever been due to injuries and the fact that they are trading him to get SOME value because they know he will walk. I think a 1st and Robertson is too much.

Chychrun Olofsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>It makes resigning Bunting impossible, weakens us defensively up front and doesn't improve the PP, he wouldn't ever be on the top unit. Chychrun isn't at all that much of an upgrade over what we are getting with Sandin and he certainly can't play the right side well
enough to replace any of our RD. This is just not needed.
If TO adds, it should be ROR, someone defensively sound and adds a huge offensive element for a 3rd line as well. Olofsson can score but he's not great defensively and if he didn't fit with the top 6, he doesn't have the skill set to face the hard defensive assignments TO's bottom 6 get.
This just isn't a good use of our assets.</div></div>
It literally doesn’t make resigning Bunting impossible. If bunting wants more than 5 I would rather he test free agency anyway. Imo depth scoring is a far bigger issue than adding ANOTHER defensively responsible forward.
Its a buy-low opportunity for us and we get some term. He’s better than anything we have currently at LW. 30 is the floor if he’s a Leaf. And fwiw, his 2-way play is being overblown, but regardless he doesn’t have to be a defensive stalwart to play beside Matthews lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>This does nothing for TO. We don't need either player.</div></div>
We need scoring depth, especially o no the wing, and a way to produce on the PP more consistently in the post season. Olofsson is exactly that.
Chychrun is on an amazing contract, can play the right side, and gives us plenty of options going forward.

Robertson has to ready some time, Steeves could probably fill in, and Knies is the X factor.
IMO it would be a mistake to trade much for an marginal improvement Plus the Leafs really can't take on additional cap for next season.</div></div>
You can easily fit these two players onto a team for next season. It forces a couple smaller decision in our bottom 6, but that’s it.

TDL Fun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>Let's agree a second and "B" prospect is about the correct price for Olofsson.
It is Buffalo adding the "B" prospect, but what else in this trade has value:
$2,375,000 retention (next year as well), Murray, and taking on Engvall's $2,250,000 salary hit.
IDK the exact value of all of that but it is not nothing when the Leaf's would be adding significant goal production while only adding $125,000 to the cap.
The total value of the additions is significant.
If Olofsson could get the Leaf's out of the first round then the pick would be among the last 8, that would be a fair return considering all of the other parts of the trade.</div></div>
This is basically how I came up with the value as well. Although I don’t agree that Engvall has negative value.

Leafs TDL - Solid Depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PhillyDip123</b></div><div>I'm not a fan of the JVR and Klingberg deals, I think we could get one asset on the left side that's cheaper than those two smaller deals.
Personally, I think we have too many D-men as is, and I've been super happy with the D-depth so far. I don't think they need another offensive minded d.
Nylander at C is a bit of a stretch, I don't think it's worked before and I'd prefer he get more than 3rd line minutes.</div></div>
The idea is Nylander runs a line that escapes opposing teams top checkers. I personally think consistent depth scoring and the PP has been an issue for this team in the playoffs. I like the idea of Olofsson because we get an additional year. Who would you propose as the bigger deal for the left side?

Jensen is a nice piece though. Monahan is possible but I would top out my offer at a 2nd and a mid prospect.</div></div>
Monahan usually cools down as the seasons progresses, however if he’s still producing at this pace by the deadline a 2nd and mid prospect won’t cut it, especially with retention.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Neptune12</b></div><div>Yes Debrincat played with Kane. But Nylander played with some of the big 3. so there's no Difference there. the difference between the two is one of them works hard all the time while the other doesn't. I personally think that is way to much for debrincat plus the asking price for debrincat is a top pick, top prospect and a younger player. so it would be Greig, 7oa and brannstorm for debrincat.</div></div>
Nylander plays in the shadow of 34 and 16 here, he's not the go-to guy for goals like DeBricnat. The fans are overly critical of him as well imo, he does work hard, he's just not physical - two different things. This is all a moot point anyway, because I firmly believe DeBrincat isn't getting traded.

Some probably want to, not sure what your point is there.
Here's an awesome trade from a Sens fan I just found:
White, Colin
Pinto, Shane
Brännström, Erik
2022 1st round pick (OTT)
2023 1st round pick (OTT)
All for Debrincat. That's literally a lottery pick in the Bedard draft + #7 OA + Pinto + Brannstrom for a diminutive forward that scores goals....and only 7 more than Willy's career best playing on the PP with Kane as the triggerman.

So what is Nylanders value? *grabs popcorn*. There is literally a guy on here saying his team (Dal) would take the deal btw lol. Maybe look at the trades a little closer, you don't even know what your team is trading for. A pick in the 5-14 range is far from a guarantee to turn into Nylander:
https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/analyzing-value-nhl-draft-picks/
Even Wright and Slafkovsky are projected as 2nd line talents by some. Nylander is clearly a first line player on a deep team, putting up a ppg on the 2nd line and PP. Pinto is a good prospect but you are trading those two pieces in for a sure-thing. Murray has next to no value.
People expect the Leafs to give Nylander away for free, that's basically what it boils down to.
